  • "We have really enjoyed our stay at The Bakehouse."

The Welcome tray was a lovely touch and the Welsh Cakes the best I've tasted. The property is well equipped - we did a mix of self catering and meals out. The lounge area is cosy, and the bedroom is lovely and peaceful with a comfy bed. We found the location perfect for getting to places fairly easily being close to the M4 at Bridgend, and plenty of Supermarket choices not to far to drive too. We found the Washing Machine useful too as we where out on our Mountain Bikes most days. Highly recommend and we would use again.

  • "The cottage was beautiful and so peaceful."

Claire, the host, was friendly and helpful. If you want some where to recharge your batteries it is the ideal place. Ideally the entrance onto the farm could do with a traffic cone or some kind of bright object because with dark nights drawing in the entrance is difficult to find.

  • "Beautiful location and cottage."

However not ideal if you're a walker and don't wish to drive anywhere. You definitely require transport as the roads are too dangerous to walk and public footpaths are too overgrown. The oven turned out to be gas rather than electric which I had no idea how to use and no local restaurants for an evening meal....again transport is required.

  • "Very happy with The Bake House."

Overall experience was very relaxing and comfortable. Welcome basket a lovely touch. Under floor heating was divine, although we did make the mistake of leaving a bag of shopping on the floor which had our haul from Cadbury’s in it

  • "The property is beautiful and well equipped."

The bedroom was stunning and bed very comfortable. The only thing that let it down was that there was no blinds or covers for the window in the bedroom which for summertime was a bit of a hassle, I had to stuff pillows in the window frames.

The property

The Bake House is a welcoming, one-bedroom slice of Welsh history, located near the rural village of Bettws in the Garw Valley, South Wales.

Originally a bake house, today it welcomes two guests for a romantic getaway in the countryside and has a beautiful décor with a woodburning stove, exposed stonework and beamed ceilings that pays attention to its 17th-century origins while expertly mixing contemporary amenities.

Before passing through the enclosed front garden, which provides privacy to enjoy the Welsh sunlight, make use of the ample off-road parking.

Once inside, you'll find a welcoming, open-plan living area with plush seating, a Smart TV, a crackling woodburning stove, a dining area for two and a well-equipped kitchen where you can make romantic meals throughout your stay.

Catch up on the newest series indoors, or make use of the garden, which is ideal for alfresco dining and toasting to your break.

Rest in the lovely, king-size bedroom while day gives way to night, offering a spacious and well-presented area to unwind.

Come morning, awaken with a shower in the ground-floor shower room, before preparing to tour the wider locality.

While more services are available across Bridgend, Bettws has a pub, a Post Office, and a convenience store for your use.

Once you’re ready to tour the region, grab your hiking boots and head out to Bryngarw Country Park, a haven for spotting wildlife and breath-taking views.

Further south, explore the ruins of Ogmore Castle and Merthyr Mawr Nature Reserve before reaching the stunning Welsh coastline at Ogmore By Sea or popular Porthcawl.

Heading west, The National Waterfront Museum and the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery are well worth a visit if you decide to take in Swansea, the gate-way to the Gower Peninsula.

Likewise, a visit to Wales' capital city Cardiff offers a day of art, culture and shopping, where you’ll have the opportunity to tour the National Museum Cardiff, Cardiff Castle, Wales Millennium Centre and Cardiff Bay.

The nature lovers can head north and will enjoy the chance to explore the Brecon Beacons National Park.
