  • "We absolutely loved the holiday we had."

    The location is idyllic, quiet, horses in the paddock, rolling hills etc. The lanes led to some lovely walks and views. We didn't stray too far from Pontypool as we just needed a good rest and recuperate. We did take advantage of the dad's and my wife read at least 1 of the books. Grandads shack itself is a elderly, distinguished gentleman that is welcoming, inviting and safe and the host was kind helpful and easily approachable. We will be coming back again in the future as we really want to explore further afield.

  • "An amazing location and lovely caravan, set in an idyllic little garden."

    So peaceful, surrounded by stunning views. The only noises were the sound of horses living their best life, and the occasional sound of a golf ball being hit from the bear by golf course. Surrounded but beautiful walks and views for miles. Owners were really lovely. Came to say hi and gave some suggestions of places to visit. But then very respectful and left us to our holiday. Highly recommend!

  • "Perfect location , the pics of the garden do not do it justice , beautiful patio area and plenty of secure space for the dogs, Grandads shack is comfortable, clean and cosy ."

    Everything is there including barbecue area and fire pit with wood supplied. The host is lovely checking in to ensure all was ok . The views from the lounge window are amazing . We don’t normally revisit where we have been but will definitely go back! If anyone thinking of visiting South wales then look no further than grandads shack , its perfect

  • "Lovely caravan the views from the window were stunning, the bed was comfy, we have dogs and the added bonus was the garden around the caravan which was dog proof."

    Caron the owner was very friendly. Small track road to get there but no for long the veiws of the mountains in the distance made it worth it.

    Although it had panel heaters in the main bedroom and in the toilet/shower room, it was still a little cold, didnt seem to give much heat, but it was very cold and damp outside, all in all a very lovely cosy van, would come again

  • "We have just arrived home from a long weekend away here."

    We couldn't believe lur luck when we arrived after a very long 6.5hr drive due to the prince of Wales bridge being closed so we had to detour around to the other bridge, our 3 dogs who were travelling with us were in need to run off some energy and the garden was amazing it was huge the pictures doesn't do it justice the biggest bonus was that it was fully enclosed so the dogs could go out and run around and we didn't have to worry. The dogs loved the garden far bigger then we have at home. We opened the caravan door to be greeted with a lovely warm van the owners had popped on the heating for our arrival which was greatly appreciated after our long travel. The caravan was fully kitted out with everything you could think of.wifi, smart tv did player with 2 drawers full of dvds to enjoy we did add some to it as only found them after we brought some lol. There was boars games you name it it was there. Even a airfryer. They had a little storage unit outside which had towels in for the dogs which was totally unexpected all 3 of our dogs love the outside come rain or shine and they are the biggest mud monsters going so we took full advantage of a towel or two

  • "Me and my family had such a wonderful stay here."

    The place was more than we expected with plenty of little added extras that made the place feel like home for a week. The people who run the place were very helpful when I was arriving late by putting on the lights and heaters for my arrival. Which was just what k needed after a 4hour drive. The views around the place are lush and the setting is so calm and peaceful. It was great for the kids too. Extra greatful for the huge DVD selection and DVD player. Thankyou so much can’t wait to book here again.

  • "We loved our stay!"

    Lovely quiet location but the van is a summer van, so it got a bit chilly at night and early mornings. Very well equipped with pots and pans etc so we didn't need to pack the kitchen sink too!!! (Just a habit that we have!!) Our boy loved the garden and was so relaxed too, which was great to see! We would love to go back again when the weather is a little better!

  • "A clean, comfortable and well kitted out unit."

    A very peaceful location not too far out of town or main roads. The owner lives nearby and was extremely helpful when we needed assistance over a couple of minor issues. If travelling with a small dog, check that it won't get through the gaps of the main gate and the back gate. We suggested that the owner attaches some fencing across the gate to ensure 100% security.

    Caravan ideal, grounds bigger than expected. Views are stunning. Had a tasty Chinese meal delivered to the van too. Shower lovely and strong, bed really comfy. Hugely generous amount of wood available for fireplace at no extra cost, also BBQ coals provided at no extra cost. Also cans of coke, bottle of cava and 4 pints of milk waiting for us in the fridge. Really great value for money. The owners are lovely too, we will most likely be back and have already recommended to others.

Grandads Shack is a traditional, single-storey caravan resting on the owners’ grounds in a private and peaceful area of Trevethin, South Wales.

Perfect for families or friends, the property boasts stunning views of the surrounding mountains, the Bristol Channel and offers a fully enclosed garden for your four-legged friends, and is within reach of a wealth of attractions.

On arrival, the private driveway has ample space for up to 3 cars, The garden has a laid lawn, picnic bench and fire pit for nights sitting out watching the stunning sunsets.

Steps lead up to the inside of the timeless and traditional caravan, Its open plan living boasts plenty of space to sit and watch TV or simply unwind after a busy day on the sofa or at the dining table.

A compact yet well equipped kitchen has all the amenities required - a gas oven and hob, small fridge with freezer box, microwave and air fryer provide versatility for self cooking.

When it’s time to rest, a double bedroom, with Jack-and-Jill access to the shower room, and a twin bedroom provide you with a space to sleep and plenty of storage for your belongings.

Located a minutes walk from Pontypool Golf Club - an ideal location for avid golfers, With over 20 other courses within a 30 minute drive, Grandads shack is an ideal base for a golfing retreat.

If walking is your thing - step outside the door and within a few hundred metres you enter Lasgarn Woods.

With stunning walks up to the White Stone with views over the Bristol Channel and into the Brecon Beacons, Alternatively climb up to the Folly and Shell Grotto or wander down into Pontypool Park and the American Gardens to admire the local history, The Brecon and Monmouthshire canal is a 12 minute drive away - easy walking along a well established canal path and cycle track, Travel deeper into the Brecon Beacons National Park - with Sugarloaf being 17 miles and Pen Y Fan 38 miles.

Cwmcarn Forest boasts plenty of walking and mountain biking options 25 minutes away and Bike Park Wales less than 45 minutes by car, Alternatively there are plenty of off-road riding options directly from Grandads Shack.

Other attractions found nearby - Big Pit, Keepers Pond, Llandegffed Reservoir and Raglan Castle, For days out further a field, Cwmbran is 20 minutes away and other areas such as Usk, Newport, Abergavenny and Cardiff are all in easy reach.
