  • "We had a wonderful four-night stay at Yr Awen."

    It was quite a long journey for us — around four and a half hours — but it was absolutely worth it once we arrived. I was initially a little concerned about a gap underneath the gate, as our Patterdale Terrier is something of an escape artist! However, after sending a quick message to Nicola, the owner, this was quickly rectified, which we really appreciated. Yr Awen is a beautiful and unique place to stay — a modern interpretation of the ancient roundhouses, set within the grounds of an Iron Age fort. The accommodation was comfortable and very well equipped. The bed was comfy, the shower was amazing, and the kitchen had everything we needed, including a small dishwasher and fridge with an ice box. There was also a small TV, although we were far too busy enjoying the surroundings to use it! The gardens were huge and perfect for our Patterdale to explore. The views from the large windows were absolutely stunning and even better when sitting outside in the evening or relaxing in the wood-fired hot tub. I went in the hot tub every night — even in the rain! The wildlife and surroundings were a real highlight. We enjoyed watching the beautiful horses in the field below, as well as cows and plenty of birds, including numerous red kites. A heron also appeared to have a favourite spot by the river and could be seen there every day. At night, we could hear the owls and foxes, which added to the peaceful atmosphere. During our stay, we visited two National Trust properties and particularly enjoyed the Roman gold mine. We also spent a day walking part of the coastal path, where we were lucky enough to spot a seal. Lampeter is only around a 10-minute drive away and has some great takeaway options. We had pizza from Marco's and a curry from Shapla Tandoori, both of which were delicious. The only small suggestions we would make would be perhaps providing a clothes airer or somewhere to hang wet walking clothes, as well as somewhere convenient to hang towels and clothing when using the hot tub. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and would definitely recommend Yr Awen to anyone looking for a peaceful, unique getaway surrounded by beautiful countryside, wildlife and history

  • "Perfect getaway with wonderful countryside views from living areas to bedroom."

    Very peaceful and secluded location, yet not too far from amenities. The property was well equipped and had everything we needed. The hot tub was a nice touch and was easy to operate. The dogs enjoyed the vast outdoor space. A secure garden was our main priority for our 2 Beagles and it was was certainly Beagle-proof :-) Nicola was super helpful throughout our stay and very accommodating. Although the temperature wasn't too warm during our stay, having an air-conditioner in the bedroom is a nice touch. We would love to return in the future.

  • "Great accommodation in a perfect location."

    Lovely walks from the house, and also coastal towns not too far away by car. Everything you'd need in the accommodation. We enjoyed the outdoor space and the hot tub. The air con in the bedroom was also ideal as we were there during a heat wave!

  • "We have just come home from Yr Awen."

    It’s honestly the most beautiful place we have ever stayed in and cannot fault a single thing. From the moment we arrived, everything felt luxurious, peaceful and incredibly well thought out. The property was absolutely spotless and finished to such a high standard. Every little detail had been considered, from the cosy blankets for sitting outside around the fire pit to the lovely underfloor heating that made it feel so comfortable and relaxing. The hot tub was immaculate and clearly very well maintained, as was everything else. The views are simply stunning and the whole setting is so peaceful and tranquil. It is the perfect place for a romantic getaway and somewhere you can completely switch off and relax. The bed deserves a special mention because it is genuinely the comfiest bed I have ever slept in. We both slept brilliantly every night. The WiFi also worked perfectly throughout our stay which was an added bonus. Our dogs absolutely loved the garden too. One of ours is usually a complete escape artist, so we are normally on constant alert, but she happily roamed around for hours and we never had a single concern. Nicola was an amazing host from start to finish. Nothing was ever too much trouble and she made everything so easy and welcoming. We genuinely did not want to leave and will without a doubt be returning. Absolutely amazing in every way. Thank you so much for a truly wonderful stay.

  • "We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at Yr Awen roundhouse."

    It was spotlessly clean, had everything you would need. The view was glorious, it was incredibly quiet, it was all secure for Harry (dog) so he could roam freely and you didn't have to be concerned he could get out. The hot tub was easy to navigate, the fire pit was used too as we had great weather! All wood and sticks on hand with an honesty box to take as much as you needed so you didn't have to worry about popping out to get some if you ran low. We couldn't pick a single fault with the accommodation. It really exceeded our expectations and we would 100% return in the very near future. Its remote enough to be away from it all but also close by to the wonderful beaches and countryside that Wales has to offer in the car. Thank you for a lovely stay!

  • "Yr Awen was a little piece of heaven."

    We stumbled across the property looking for an end of year relaxing get away and we hit a jackpot. The property was amazing, very private, clean, all the essentials you might need have been covered, leaving little reason to need to leave, and all the reasons to stay and enjoy the peace and quiet, stargazing, nature and calm. We've tried to think of something to make it any better, only minor things are personal preference on comfort. The owners were also on hand and accomodating for anything we might need. We are already talking about going back. Thank you again.

  • "Both my partner and myself were absolutely amazed at how beautiful and relaxing the roundhouse was, it’s located in a beautiful quite area with little to no one around and no traffic noise which made sitting outside in the hot tub at night extremely relaxing especially in the evenings looking out to the little river just across from the field."

    The entire place was spotless upon arrival and everything we needed was ready and easy to find, the whole interior was unlike anything we had ever seen, it was made so beautifully and we instantly felt at ease and it felt like a second little home. The owners couldn’t have been any better with there help and knowledge of the house and the area even giving us ideas of places to go when we asked, they came out to help set up the hot tub one evening and stayed out for quite a while making sure we were able to get the full experience without having any issues at all. We would 100% recommend this to anyone and would definitely book this retreat again it made for a prefect weekend away and we couldn’t be more thankful to the owners for all their hard work and dedication

    ! We have stayed in lots of different accommodation around the UK and this was by far a stand out accommodation, the best we have ever stayed in. Everything was so well thought out, the owners have thought of everything you could possibly need. It was so clean, a real home away from home. Yr Awen – The Inspiration is a unique romantic retreat near Lampeter, comprising two beautifully connected Celtic roundhouses that offer a truly special and immersive experience in the heart of Ceredigion Bay.

Perfect for couples seeking a romantic and rural escape, this unique abode features a large hot tub with sublime vistas of the countryside, and a fire pit.

As you arrive admire the wildflowers and countryside, park the car then make your way to the entrance as the gravel crunches beneath your feet.The outside hints at the charm and style within, with large windows and unique shape, its warm wooden exterior makes a lasting impression.

Enter to the hallway and pause at the swing seat, ideal for slipping your shoes off, reading a book, taking in the views or commemorating the moment with a picture.

Walk across the warm toned wooden flooring to the open-plan living space, housing a well appointed kitchen, dining area and sitting area.

Store treats in the fridge for the week, then whip up a romantic meal for two utilising the oven, hob and dishwasher for an easy clean up.

Dine at the curve dining table, with beams over head and natural light from the velux window, which comes complete with black out blinds.

After plates are clear head to the sitting area, flick on the TV or simply admire the breath-taking view from the sofa and armchair overlooking the countryside.

The Maes Celt – Roundhouse Retreats offers a unique trio of single-storey Celtic roundhouses nestled on the peaceful outskirts of Lampeter, Ceredigion. Surrounded by meadows and rolling hills, this collection invites you to unwind, explore, and reconnect with nature. Whether you're soaking in a wood-fired hot tub, enjoying a soak in a freestanding bath with a view, or dining outdoors beneath the open sky, each retreat offers its own rhythm of rest.

The roundhouses at Maes Celt have been inspired by the heritage and history of the Celtic Fort located on the owner's land. Nestling at the foot of the south side of the fort, they draw on the sense of place and belonging that is unique, with their own wildflower meadows and fortress fencing creating a modern Celtic sanctuary in the wilds of Wales. The 9th-century Celtic stone from Caer Maesmynach, Llanfihangel Ystrad, is carved with an interlace pattern typical of early medieval Christianity. Standing tall, it may once have formed part of a Celtic cross or cluster of monuments linked to nearby Capel Sant Silin and Strata Florida monks. First recorded in 1808 and later noted in the 1878 Cambrian Archaeological Association report, the stone was moved in the early 1900s from Maesmynach to Castle Hill House, then to St Hilary’s Church, Llanilar, where it still stands. Scheduled as a monument in 1956, it remains a significant piece in understanding Wales’ early Christian heritage, even though removed from its original setting.

Head to Lampeter, the smallest and oldest university town in Wales, which is well worth a visit, with its charming streets lined with small, locally-owned shops that give the town its unique character. Just a short drive away, the 18th-century National Trust estate of Llanerchaeron offers a glimpse into Georgian life, with its dairy, laundry and pleasure grounds waiting to be explored. In Aberaeron, a colourful harbour town that is nearby, you can stroll the promenade with an ice cream in hand. In New Quay, join a SeaMor Dolphin Watching boat trip for a chance to spot dolphins and seals. For a deeper dive into Welsh heritage, the National Wool Museum brings the story of weaving to life through working looms and historic machinery.
