  • "We recently stayed at Rose Cottage and overall had a pleasant stay, with some lovely touches but also a few disappointments."

On arrival, we were really impressed to find a complimentary bottle of wine and fresh milk waiting for us. It was a thoughtful welcome and a lovely start to our stay. The cottage itself was comfortable, but there were a few things that we feel should be made clearer. The biggest surprise was that the cottage is directly opposite the owners’ house, with a work shed overlooking the patio area. We had booked expecting a more secluded and private setting, so it would be helpful if this was mentioned in the listing. The bathroom could also be improved by fitting a bath mat, as water easily ends up on the floor, creating a potential slipping hazard. One thing that caused unnecessary stress was receiving a message at 7am on the morning of departure asking us to strip the beds and place the bedding inside the used pillowcases, along with any towels. This wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the cottage information, and as we didn’t see the message until we woke at 10am (knowing we had to leave by 11am), it left us rushing around trying to get everything done. This information should really be included in the welcome pack or house instructions so guests can plan ahead. The bath also needed cleaning when we arrived, as there was a residue around it that hadn’t been cleaned properly. We also spent quite a while looking for the green bin, as the instructions said it was by the garage, but it was actually at the end of the driveway. Updating the directions would save future guests some time. Another surprise was that the cottage didn’t have a TV. While we were told it wasn’t advertised as having one, it’s something we’ve always found included in holiday cottages. To their credit, once we mentioned it, a TV was delivered and installed on the Saturday, which we really appreciated. Finally, storage in the bedrooms was limited, as the low drawers were filled with spare bedding, leaving just one set of drawers for guests across both bedrooms. Overall, Rose Cottage has plenty of potential, and the welcome gifts and the owners’ willingness to provide a TV showed good customer service. With a few improvements to the information provided before arrival, a little more attention to cleaning, and a couple of practical additions, it could offer an even better experience.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review; I can only apologise for any issues with the cleanliness of the cottage, and that a bath mat was not made available. This was an oversight on the part of the cleaner (unfortunately it was not one of our usual cleaners). It is not, however, an excuse for any reduction in the high standards of cleanliness we expect to provide. I am, equally, sorry that the message from the property manager did not come through to you the evening prior to your departure, as it normally would. I do understand that this would have come as a surprise in the morning. Had you let her know, she would have accommodated any necessary changes. We will add the instructions she sent into the welcome pack. As far as the cottage itself is concerned, the listing is accurate (as reflected in the very many positive reviews we have had), but naturally we are sorry to hear of your disappointment as it does appear that you were expecting something slightly different to the listing. All I can suggest is that it is always worth checking whether a property does meet your requirements before you make the booking. We will always do what we can to accommodate requests in advance. I would also add that we will always do our utmost to address any questions and concerns as soon as they are raised by quests, and had we been aware of either the cleanliness issue or the bath mat issue, that would have been resolved as early as possible (as you experienced, and mention above, with the television). I hope that despite the issues, you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "Wonderful little cottage."

Very impressed with how well this was equipped with everything you could possibly need. Just wish I knew it had a coffee pod machine as I would’ve brought extra pods! It was a really hot weekend so thankfully there were fans in both bedrooms, much appreciated! We were there to attend a wedding at the nearby Dragonsgate and it was perfectly situated for this. Just wish we had had more time to enjoy this lovely peaceful property and explore the nearby area. Will hopefully be back soon!

Thank you for the lovely feedback and we are pleased you enjoyed your stay. You would be most welcome! Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage and peaceful location."

Great welcome pack with everything needed for your first night. We found the lounge furniture uncomfortable but would probably have been fine if we were shorter (all around 6ft) A hook in the bathroom would be great and possibly an extra cupboard in the kitchen for additional food storage.

  • "A really lovely property in a great location."

Clean, comfortable and perfect for 2 couples and a baby to spend a weekend. There was a fault with the local water in the area during our stay on one of the hottest weekends of the year, and the owners really went above and beyond to ensure we had enough water in bottles to be comfortable and hydrated. Would highly recommend and will definitely consider staying again if we're back in the area!

Thank you for your lovely feedback which is much appreciated. We would be delighted to welcome you back if and when you are in the area. Property Owner

The historic village of Garway dates back to the 7th century and boasts a 12th century Knight Templar church, a thriving village community and an excellent 18th century pub serving real ales and a menu inspired by fresh, locally-sourced produce. The village lies south west of Hereford on a hill above the River Monnow from where many lovely walks and cycle trails can be enjoyed, and the Herefordshire Trail runs close by. The summit of Garway Hill offers 360 degree panoramic views of seven counties and is a haven for wildlife with over 70 species of birds, many moths, butterflies and protected newts, which can be found in the pond near the summit. White mountain ponies and sheep also graze freely on the hill, which also has remains of an Iron Age settlement. Nearby the pretty village of Symonds Yat straddles the beautiful River Wye with its natural scenery and magnificent limestone 'rock', popular with climbers. Symonds Yat is situated overlooking the beautiful Wye Valley and is close to the magnificent Royal Forest of Dean, England's largest oak forest.
