  • "Sea View was an excellent place to stay for our recent 2 week break in Pembrokeshire."

We particularly loved the spacious ‘garden room’ with its sublime view of Dinas island, also the large lawned garden was a treat for the dog. Warning, be vigilant with dogs and little ones. The garden is secured by stock fence and gates to the drive, but there are a couple of single gates that give access to the front and the latches on these are broken – we had a heart stopping moment when our BC managed to slip through these, and escape onto the lane! Newport is a lovely place, with plenty of pubs and cafes – we made use of the Monday morning local produce market, great organic bread, and fresh veg. Just a 20 mins walk along the bridleways. The dog loved the expanse of Newport Sands, just down the road, and the many other stunning beaches around the coast (no restrictions during the winter). So much to see and do nearby, filled our days easily. We had a few issues on arrival, but by no way spoiled our wonderful time away.

Thank you for your feedback and we are so glad you have a great stay at Sea View. Thank you for letting us know about the gates and we will get these looked at as soon as possible. We hope we can welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "Sea view is a wonderful place to stay."

Very clean throughout. Lots of attention to detail. Very spacious. Loved having the sun room to relax in during daylight hours and then cosying up in the lounge in the evening. We didn't even get to using the games room, which would provide a larger group with more space and fun too - our rescue dog would not have liked the foosball table noises! Fantastic and spacious garden which we, and our dog in particular, enjoyed - the lawn was well kept so paws were not muddy at all. Good location for a few mins drive into the town of Newport (and its pubs) and lots of places and sights to walk and explore within 30 mins. Only real downside was the noisy toilet flush in the en suite. Highly recommended and will go on our list of places we'd love to stay at again (which is very select and has only two places on it now!).

  • "The property was in a great setting with lovely views."

The cleanliness of the place was lacking. It gave the appearance of needing a good clean. Cob webs everywhere. Kitchen cupboards, work surfaces and appliances needed wiping as it was very grimey. The extractor fan didn't work. The dishwasher smelt awful so we didn't use it. It's a shame as otherwise it was a beautiful setting.

  • "This property was perfect in terms of space and stylish comfort."

The whole cottage was outfitted to a very high standard (though it’s not really a ‘cottage’). With older children we appreciated having different living spaces and we loved the conservatory. Even on overcast and drizzly days we felt connected to the outside and the wood burner made the evenings cosy. Whilst our dog was vastly entertained watching the rabbits on the lawn every morning and evening. We hadn’t been to Newport before but loved the restaurants, beaches, and lovely shops. It had everything you could want for a holiday.

The house was nice and clean on arrival and had everything we needed for our stay. Large safe garden for our dog.Would definitely stay here again.

It was perfect in every way and suited us very well. Contents of the whole house were luxurious and well cared for and we felt at home from the moment we walked in the door. The gardens were extensive and our dog appreciated them to play football with us! The peace and quiet was refreshing and of course the views phenomenal. Thank you.

We had a long drive down from North East England so had pre booked a delivery slot with Asda. There is a spar shop in Newport, but I would certainly recommend a supermarket delivery if you are needing more than basic essentials. Sea view is a beautiful well-equipped cottage with loads of space both inside and outside. The kids had plenty of room to spread out in the different living spaces and in the garden. They loved the football goals, spotting the animals in the garden and in the lane and of course the beautiful local beaches. We had days out at Dinosaur land, Pembroke castle, Cardigan, Fishguard and Castle Henllys Iron Age village and also stayed in Snowdonia for one night mid week to go to Zipworld and climb mount Snowdon. We tried the Royal Oak and the Golden Lion locally for food - both were lovely but get quite busy so I would advise booking ahead if you can.

A very well stocked kitchen and the garden was large and dog friendly, we enjoyed watching the baby rabbits and bats. The last recycling schedule was 2020/21, if someone comes in and empties the various recycling containers it would be good to have a note as such in the property information folder ( which by the way is very comprehensive ). The hill walk up the road was charming (we saw a peregrine and we have never heard so many skylarks at once ). You have to slow down for sheep and the odd cow in the lane, but again a charming feature of the location. A very well presented clean cottage in a lovely area. We look forward to staying again.

  • "Amazing Cottage in West Wales!"

We recently spent 7 nights at Sea View Newport over the Christmas holidays and what a superb property it is too. After reading the reviews we were a little worried about the facilities at the house, but the owner closed the property for 2 weeks in November and resolved all issues. We have stayed at many U.K. properties and this by far is the best, especially with the kitchen being so well equipped. We were advised by Sykes to bring certain items just incase - but we didn’t need for anything. This house has it all! The only thing you need is an oven glove. We messaged Kathryn the owner a few days before getting to the house as it was much easier asking her questions than asking Sykes. Kathryn was super helpful and provided us with all the information we needed about the property and places in Newport to purchase food etc. before we arrived. The owner has thought of everything and made this house a very comfortable place to stay in. Thank you Kathryn for making our stay memorable. We’ll definitely be back again in the future!

  • "A December review states Sea View was closed in November and all issues resolved but they were not."

I have given the owner every opportunity to resolve this and I held back on posting my review but she hasn't even responded back to me.I contacted Sykes about the poor reviews about Seaview as we were arriving 19th Nov 22 for a very special birthday and due to my health issues we needed to be able to cook in the cottage. We were emailed to assure us that when the cottage was closed the owner would attend to all maintenance issues and check all was ok before we arrived. On arrival we found dirty floors with grit all over in the kitchen and utility. Someone had written in the dirt on the kitchen door window. Almost all kitchen bulbs were not working, there were insufficient pans to cook a meal and no welcome pack or log pack. There were no cleaning materials for us to clean the floors apart from a dirty dish cloth and the tea towels left in the kitchen were stained and dirty. In the lounge we found stains on the carpet and a lamp fitting was broken. In the dining room the blind was broken and radiator TRV was broken and not working. In the conservatory a window closure was broken and left on the sill and someone had tried to secure the window by putting a screw in from the outside but it had not worked so anyone could get in to the house. There was a broken bird on the sill and a glass vase that was broken on one side with a large hole with razor sharp edges which could have sliced a child's hand or arm off. None of the lights above the conservatory worked, neither did the majority of other garden lights. The patio furniture was covered up but the furniture was too dirty to use. The downstairs toilet latch was hanging off and the upstairs ensuite could not be used as it would not drain and was flooding the floor. The macerater toilet was still flushing hot water as you actually sat on the toilet, the tap was loose on the sink and the pop up plug did not work so the sink could not be filled. The heated towel rail was not working. Many of these problems had previously been reported so it was clear that nothing had been done while the cottage was closed apart from fitting a new oven. We had to stay in on our arrival day for the welcome pack to be delivered and for an electrician to come and fit light bulbs in the kitchen as it was too dark to be safely used. We also had to stay in on my birthday which was the next day because they were bringing pans over, and a locksmith had to call out because the entrance door would not lock and also the electrician needed to come back. The outside lighting bulbs were never replaced while we were there and we don't know what work the electrician did because he left without telling us. I had to make numerous calls until late in the evening on both days to get these things attended to and I went without a meal on the Saturday because I was not able to cook without the pans. I was told the delay was because the owner did not want to pay to address the problems and I was originally told I should jam a chair under the door to stop anyone breaking in because Sea View was too remote to get any one out. Eventually after much effort and calls from me someone did come out in the late evening on Saturday and in the day time on Sunday and then later that evening but by then my birthday and my holiday had been ruined and I was in tears. I told Sykes straight away about all the issues and I sent photographs of every fault I have mentioned but you have to be aware that if there are any problems you can only deal with the owner because that is who your contract is with. It is not with Sykes. I don't know how the last reviewer was able to message the owner but Sykes told me this was not possible and I was never able to speak to the owner. There were no contact details left in the cottage so I was only able to deal with Sykes and Coast and Country Holidays. Coast and Country holidays did do their best to help but didn't have the authority. It is a shame that photos can not be attached as I have many which confirm what I have said in this review. Sykes had already been in contact with the owner while we were in the cottage so thinking I would hear back from her I left it a while before I wrote a complaint letter to her and sent the photos. Despite this the owner has never even responded back to me so no apology from her for completely ruining my special holiday. I know my letter was received by the owner because it was signed for by her so it is very disappointing and upsetting that this is her attitude to problems. I would never stay here again.

We take all reviews very seriously and it offers us the potential to improve our standards. We are sorry on this occasion we were unable to meet your demands. As the property had been closed for repairs and a deep clean prior to your arrival, we don’t agree with your version of events, but your concerns were addressed anyway, in a reasonable amount of time. We responded to all of your requests immediately, for example addition cooking equipment was delivered in less than 24 hours (complaint made Saturday, equipment delivered Sunday midday.) Hopefully future guests can see from our excellent reviews post this review plus our extremely full calendar, we usually experience satisfied guests. Property Owner

  • "Location and view of dinas head excellent."

Enclosed garden ideal for energetic dog off lead. Cottage very comfortable. Would have been helpful to have known there were no toiletries, washing up liquid, kitchen hand towels or disheasher tablets. Cooker was most annoying to use and only seemed to choose very hot! Patio area needed work as weeds everywhere. Cottage clean except for sun room which didnt seem to have been cleaned properly. I must finish by stressing, once again, of the continued disappointment over the entry and exit times. Certainly the former is a waste of one day of the holiday.

Thank you for your feedback, it is much appreciated and that you enjoyed the wonderful gardens and views at the property. I was sorry to hear that some of the basic items such as washing up liquid was missing. We Have asked our cleaning and maintenance company to ensure this is not the case for future guests. I totally understand the frustration on entry and exit times. Am afraid as owners we are tied to the cleaning company, and they are still operating this policy after the situation. Most of Newport self catering cost ages are subject to the same policy. We are hoping for this to change over the coming months. Property Owner

  • "3.5 stars: Initially impressive but sometimes disappointing when you try to do anything practical (e."

    G. cook) The positives: Great location Warm and cosy (mostly - radiator doesn’t seem to be working in twin bedroom) Lovely view from well-maintained garden Superb garden room Well-furnished, tastefully decorated rooms and decent towels Thoughtful touches such as changing area, board games, OS maps provided etc. Useful information file The negatives: Apart from handwash and half-used toilet rolls in each bathroom, little or nothing was provided: no welcome pack; no washing-up liquid (beyond some diluted remnants); no kitchen roll; no cloths or sponges to clean up; not a single dishwasher tablet; not even a few tea bags or small amount of coffee. The owners should try cooking in the kitchen, because it’s extremely challenging. The main obstacle is the barely-functioning oven: it refuses to work if you turn it up beyond 170 degrees C, and inexplicably requires you to start the timer for it to work in the first place. There is one oven temperature: too hot. Only half of the toaster works. No oven gloves. Microwave not tall enough for us to sterilise our baby’s bottles. Listed as four bedrooms, but there are really only three (certainly only three of the upstairs rooms have beds in them). Similarly, the advert indicates that there are three bathrooms, but there are actually two plus a downstairs toilet. Check-out time is inhumanely early at 09:30, especially if you have a six month-old baby. The toilet in the en suite is absurdly loud and often flushed itself as you’re using it, so it’s effectively unusable at night/when you’ve got a young baby sleeping upstairs. Only two food waste bags were provided for the whole week and there was no explanation of how the recycling system works. We put out the bins for collection on Tuesday, which went fine. Some slightly angry men came on Friday morning, looking for waste in orange bags. We noticed the orange bags earlier in the week, but what’s the point in them if everything has been collected three days previously?!

Thank you so much for your feedback. I would like to respond to some concerns, to help future guests: - as stated on the website the property does only sleep 6, there is a fourth tiny upstairs room , that can only fit a travel cot (provided). - I have asked for the wording to be changed to two bathrooms, plus one downstairs cloakroom, in case this was misleading. - the cleaning company has been informed of missing items and will restock. I can only apologies for no welcome pack, we normally provide, milk, butter, eggs, bread and welsh cakes. This has been reported to cleaning company. - check in/out times - we are working with cleaning company to improve these times which were due to Covid cleaning policy. - the en suite toilet is a macerator toilet, and unfortunately due to plumbing restrictions in a 200yr old property cannot be changed. - Rubbish - sadly a lot of guests do not properly recycle and Pembrokeshire council are very strict! So we pay for an additional service for any rubbish leftover is retrieved by a private contractor. We are just keen to ensure that no rubbish is left in the driveway for guests on arrival. Hence the additional orange bags. - oven due to be replaced (awaiting delivery at end of November.). It has been checked by an electrician (22nd September) and is working, but we feel an update is required anyway. Property Owner

Beautiful cottage and surroundings. Well presented, spacious and comfortable wishes we had booked for 2 weeks. Now the minor cons. After a 3 hour car journey and a later booking in time than any other cottage (5.30 )we have stayed at using Sykes since 2016 to find not drop of milk for a cuppa a little disappointing. There has always been a 'welcome pack' of some description at every other holiday cottage. No starter pack for log burner as advertised just a box of matches! Pictures on web page need updating as it clearly shows 3 TV's only one in property.not a big problem for us 2 but if families book with kids could cause Arguments. The main light in snug and living room not working, tried everything, wall light had blown and changed it for one from unused bedroom. None of this however spoilt our time here and had a wonderful relaxing time.

Thank you for your feedback, you are correct, there should have been a welcome pack with welsh eggs, milk and bread and butter on your arrival. I have taken this matter up with the agency.
