  • "When arrived we met Chris & Lesley and had a tour from Chris."

He showed us around and explained how things worked. The house was lush and cosy, upon arrival the oven wasn’t working but they fixed it as soon as possible and was very apologetic. The bedroom was cosy and warm. Hot tub was good but with the cold nights it was not good getting out! Lovely little place, was easy to find but it is very out in the middle of nowhere but some people like that, we didn’t realise how far everything is from it. Overall it was a nice stay

  • "A deceptively spacious cottage, superbly decorated with fabulous use of natural slate and wood."

Very quiet and peaceful. A good base for walking parts of the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast. Very comfortable double bed, dark skies helping to ensure a good night's sleep after a day walking. If we were to make one recommendation for improvement it would be to put some steps or something at the side of the cottage to enable visitors to get to the hot tub from the patio doors in the double bedroom (closer to the shower) as this would enhance the privacy rather than going out of the frint doir. Overall though this was an excellent property for our short break. Chris and Lesley are great hosts, very welcoming. Thank you

  • "I am fortunate to stay in a lot of holiday cottages around Cornwall and the West Wales coast."

I can honestly say that i have now found the best i have stayed in. The location is fantastic. I have a dog, the area is dog friendly and fantastic beaches. Its own garden, off road just enough with a pub 300 yds away (colourful locals) and great food. The beach at Newport is fantastic and a 5 minute drive away. With great local shops and pubs etc. It is not a touristy place, with a very chilled vibe. Which is exactly what i want, if you want to try a busier place for the day Newquay is a short drive, or Tenby an hour. The cottage itself is fantastic, well appointed with everything you need for a week away, the decor, furnishings and kitchen etc is everything that you need. The outside, a great garden, well maintained by Chris, bbq, firepit and hot tub. Plenty of parking etc. Then last but not least, the hosts Lesley and Chris. The nicest people you will ever meet, full of information about the area and anything you may need, and nothing too much trouble. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here, it really is that good. I am already looking at weeks for next year. Neil.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our few days at Y Felin."

Upon arrival the cottage was clean and there was tea, coffee, butter, milk, sugar and welsh cakes left for us. Chris was a lovely host, very friendly and helpful. He gave lots of suggestions on places to visit nearby. When we arrived we were surprised with runner ducks wondering and this made the experience even better. Plenty of land for the dogs to run around on. The cottage is rural but not a far walk or drive to things nearby. We had a lovely Sunday dinner just 2 minutes away and the pub was dog friendly. Most places in Fishguard and Cardigan were dog friendly to our surprise. The only reason for not giving a full score was the accuracy of the advert. We were under the impression that there was a secure field for the dogs, both dogs could get under the gate. We also didn’t realise until after booking that although it’s a dog friendly cottage the dogs aren’t allowed on the furniture or carpeted areas and that they cannot be left whilst possibly going down to the local pub for food/drink. Luckily we had taken a crate and this didn’t bother us but I think it’s worth noting in the ad (it may have been but we hadn’t noticed this until we’d been sent details after booking). Overall we enjoyed our visit very much and will definitely be recommending to others. We are hoping to return in the future. Beautiful setting and a beautiful cottage.

Hi Cerys, thank you for the feedback. I’ve replaced the lower grill on the field gates which should increase security for dogs. Since all the sofa are new we do ask owners to keep dogs off them, we will look to providing throws to cover the sofas if you want a cuddle with them. The downstairs area is all underfloor stone heating including the twin room and suitable for dogs, we do ask that the master bedroom which is carpeted has limited dog access to minimise dog hairs and their removal. Your use of a crate is ideal and much appreciated. Dogs which don’t pine or suffer from separation anxiety are welcome to be left in Y Felin provided it’s for a limited period such as a dinner or meal out. Just text to let us know and an eta for your return in case they are distressed. Many thanks Chris and Lesley . Property Owner

  • "As a family of 4 we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely characterful cottage."

The property was very clean tidy and well maintained with a spacious private outdoor seating area with a relaxing hot tub . The hosts Chris and Lesley were very friendly welcoming people with lots of good suggestions for things to do in the local area. We were unfortunate that during our stay the weather was quite wet which left us with wet clothing and towels from the hot tub to dry. This proved quite challenging with no tumble dryer and resulted in us using the old fashioned method of drying our clothes in front of the lovely log burner. The property would definitely benefit from a tumble dryer in the winter months Having said this,it certainly wouldn’t put us off staying here again and we would definitely recommend this cottage in the future

  • "Very friendly welcome and lots of local information, both in a printed book and email before the stay."

Warm and cozy cottage, even without using the wood burner. Absolutely everything seemed to be considered in the fittings and equipment. The area is interesting historically and has fantastic, easily accessible beaches, open to dogs out of peak season. There is a field next to the property ideal for exercising dogs if there are no sheep etc. Lots of delightful dog friendly pubs with good food. Only problem I had, with having quite bad arthritis at the moment, I found the internal stairs a bit of a challenge so wouldn’t recommend this particular cottage to someone with limited mobility. Having said that, I wouldn’t have missed the experience and the lovely warm hot tub amply compensated. Chris and Lesley are a lovely couple with a wealth of knowledge of the local area and life in general. We were with my son and his partner, celebrating our 48th wedding anniversary and we all (including the dogs) had a very special time.

Hi Alan, Barbara thank you for this wonderful feedback it really helps to ensure that we get it right for our guests and their dogs so that you get the most from your stay and holiday. We’re about to open next year’s diary if you’d let your son know. Kind regards. Chris and Lesley. Property Owner

  • "If you desire peace and quiet avoid this property!"

The proximity to the A487 was advised, however the glazing provides nominal sound proofing. The heating air source pump is internal and exceptionally loud. Thereby turning this off to sleep then means no underfloor heating and no hot water in the morning for 2-3 hours: hardly a desirable choice. The small holding element may include a local farmer covering the top field with slurry. This potential was part of our welcome narrative and fortunately did not materialise. The owners dwelling is very close and we were treated to scaffolders and roofers starting work at 8am midweek and chose to cut short our stay. For the £25 supplement for the dog you get an electronic receipt from Sykes!! (To be clear and aligned to the owner's guidance), this is not a very dog friendly property. With so many Pembrokeshire options available I urge you to look further. We made a very bad choice with Y Felin at Coed Cadw.

Oh Dear, it’s truly disappointing that you were unable to find the tranquillity and peace that until now, every one of our guests over the past year have found. Having arrived somewhat flustered from a long journey it was clear that Y Felin wasn’t what you expected, I can only surmise from your comments at the time that the remote, separate dwelling in its own area of land was closer to your vision. You’d unfortunately but clearly had not read the Sykes property description, nor the property welcome I’d sent nor looked at the map on the first page that describes accurately the holiday let including the need to have dogs on a lead outside given livestock needs, but a dog walk is available in a fenced/hedged large garden. 75% of our guests have dogs and their feedback notes their enjoyment with their dogs of the property, the 11 acres of our smallholding loving the private walks, scenery and space. Slurry isn’t used here given the lay of the land, but we are expecting to fertilise the fields using organic alternative (minimal smell). Our description also makes it clear that the primary source of heating is the wood-burner, that the air-source heater can take up to 48 hours to effect change given the thickness of the stone flooring and is there for background heat, the hot water ideally uses our solar power during daylight hours helping to minimise the carbon footprint, there is a very large hot-water store and yes the air-source heater can hum hence the recommendation to switch off at night if it is causing a disturbance but back on 1st thing in the morning to ensure hot water is constantly available. The double glazing is effective but having the on-suite ceiling window open will counter the soundproof quality when the occasional tractor with silage travels up the lane. With buildings that are over two hundred years old occasional maintenance is needed including the renewal of the porch roof. Two workman replacing slates on a porch that is 30 meters diagonally from Y Felin and the opposite side to the private areas for guests around the hot tub or the stream table was unavoidable. Perhaps next time you choose a cottage holiday read the details, all of them and ask questions to ensure your precise needs are meet. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay at Y Felin, where the cleanliness, comfort and decor were all fantastic."

Sadly for us the property was described as having an enclosed garden, which we wrongly assumed meant our OWN enclosed garden. We had 2 dogs with us who had to be kept on leads at all times which, had we known, we would not have chosen this property. I did point this out to the owner, who offered us the use of 2 enclosed spaces on another part of the property. This though missed our point that we wanted to sit in our hot tub or just at our outdoor table with our dogs with us and for them not to be tethered. Other than that we would recommend the cottage to anyone without dogs as it really is lovely.

Hi Debra, Delighted that you found Y Felin fantastic. Your feedback with regard to the "enclosed" garden has prompted us to clarify in the description the unfenced nature of the garden and not rely on the photos to show the private space offered. Being a smallholding with farm livestock including Indian long runner ducks, dogs need to be under control at all times i.e. on a lead when outside. We've also added to the description the dog walk/play area which has stock fencing and away from the majority of livestock. Thank you your feedback and help to make this the idyllic setting for holidays. Kind regards Chris and Lesley, Y Felin. Property Owner
