  • "We've stayed here many times and it's always a pleasure to come back."

Dog friendly and all the walks you could possibly want. Short drive to Cardigan for shopping and Poppet sands for the beach. I highly recommend a visit to Newport beach - amazing for dogs. Out of season a lot of tea rooms etc are closed but it means that you can visit places in relative peace. Cenarth Falls is just a few miles away and is stunning. Fran is an excellent host and nothing is too much trouble. The cottage is clean, very warm and comfortable. See you next year!

  • "A wonderful stay!"

We stayed for a week with our young son. Fran was a wonderful host and looked after us perfectly. Thank you for the pumpkins, Harvey loved carving them for Halloween. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed and a perfect base for exploring a beautiful part of Wales. We shall miss our morning coffee, bird watching from the conservatory. Lots of different species and a slightly shy but hungry woodpecker. Thank you Fran

  • "Fran, thankyou for our stay in your amazing property, it is exactly like the pictures but bigger."

We enjoyed our 2wk stay and grateful to you for putting the heating on that day when it poured with rain, we were soaked. The house stands down a quiet lane away from roads etc. The only noise was nature, sheep, birds of which we saw plenty in the garden, our dog loved the enclosed garden to run around in. We visited the beaches, lovely trails for wheelchair users like myself, Fishguard with its cafe for cream teas. For peace and quiet you couldn't wish for anywhere better, a big thankyou.

Thank you very much for this lovely review. Really great to hear how much you enjoyed your stay here. People staying yhis week have counted 14 different species of birds, going to the bird table already! Thanks again Fran Property Owner

Location is great for visiting local places. The cottage itself has everything you could need. Kitchen is fully equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, full size freezer and separate fridge. Living room is very spacious and has a lovely fireplace for those cooler nights. Beds are extremely comfortable and the garden is perfect for relaxing and watching the birds feeding. I would definitely recommend this cottage and would happily stay there again

The garden is a lovely place to unwind and fantastic and safe for dogs. Our two loved it and had a brilliant time running around. Fran is a great host, there if needed, but not intrusive. It was our second visit and from reading the guest book, many people return for multiple visits, so that says it all. Thanks Fran, you do a great job!!

Thank you Caroline for the feedback and also for tolerating with some maintenance that needed to be done! Glad to hear you and your dogs enjoyed the garden. Hope you are continuing a return to good health. A pity that your marking has brought the cottage right down in the ratings. Kindest regards Fran Property Owner

It is a place to enjoy being as well as an ideal base from which to explore the beauty of the surrounding area - both coast and inland. Fran is a generous, warm hospitable host who is both available and non intrusive. The large, secure garden makes it ideal for adults, children and dogs. We look forward to returning.

Brilliant! Well, what a lovely review, thank you so much.Guests often pick up on the tranquility of Maesgwyn and love it, there are times when it can be lively for a while, gathering sheep, shearing and then lambing, when ewes are on the yard and undercover. Fran, the owner, is so kind and helpful and gave us a wonderful, friendly welcome. We went walking every day, both along the Pembrokeshire coastline and also inland amongst some beautiful ancient woodlands using circular walks from the “Pathfinder Guide” books. The cottage was so good that we have already booked our third return visit for next year. Thanks for a great stay Fran!

Brilliant, it's so rewardfing to hear how much you enjoyed your stay, at the cottage, once again. Thank you and that you were able to enjoy the coast and country walks and stunning scenery too. • "Freezing cold cottage."

Timed central heating ( timer in locked box ) heating on 7am - 10am and 4pm - 10pm. The owner was not willing to provide central heating out of these times. Says there is backup heating ( small halogen heater ). There is a wood burner in the corner under a recess giving off very little heat ( no impact on large cottage). No heating at all in kitchen. We were sat with blankets at 8- 30 pm Still cold. Went to bed. Left the cottage at 10am cold. Couldn't find owner. Left them message and emailed later. No reply to knocks on door or messages. Had to leave for sake of our health. Very disappointed.

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback. I am so sorry that the cottage did not suit your needs. This your second stay here. The cottage could not possibly have been warmer. There is another heater up stairs that you didn't use and you only used a couple of logs. I had had the heating on earlier and turned it off around 3 to make sure the timer was set correctly to switch on at 4pm.I think you will find many holiday cottages have central heating on a timer. The woodburner too had been lit at lunchtime and was roaring when you arrived. Also an electric heater was on in the conservatory, really just to cheer up a gloomy day. The large wood burner is in an inglenook with a register plate , to ensure all heat stays in the room. Guests usually love it and indeed others don't use it finding the temperature adequate. When discussed on arrival, it was agreed if the settings weren't right for your needs to discuss in the morning. The heating was still on when you left! I am sorry I did not answer the door, I was in the house and was totally unaware that you were looking for me, indeed even my dogs didn't hear you knocking. The only message I had was half an hour after I saw your car leave, when you messaged, saying you had left. Please accept my apologies, I aim to provide a comfortable stay, not to upset guests. It is such a shame that I wasn't given the opportunity to try and meet your requirements. Property Owner

We did struggle a little with the water pressure for the shower, but there is a large modern bath, so we didnt find that to be a problem. The owner lives next door and was the perfect host. Fran is such a friendly host & again lit the wood burner as it was still a little chilly when we arrived after 4pm. There is always Welsh cakes & Bara brith with milk in the fridge on arrival which is very welcome. This is my 2nd visit to the property & as I have friends who live locally it is an ideal base to visit so many amazing places on the Pembrokeshire coast & inland. My only concern was the large rug in the kitchen that had started to curl up at the edges & then became a trip hazard. We managed to overcome this by turning the mat over so that the edges were flat. We then returned it to its usual position before we left. Looking forward to return visit next year.

The large woodburner had of plenty of logs next to it and easy to light fire logs too, it would have been going by the time you had unpacked your car. The 'garden room' very comfortable, looking out over the garden and catching the sun all afternoon, great for watching the bird life visiting the bird feeder. Felt, on the whole, that the house needed a facelift, outdated, fridge/freezer too small - even with 2 people - tight squeeze to put all the cold food in. Struggled to use the shower at all - no water pressure even after following instructions left by the owners! No problem with running a bath though.

Thank you for leaving a review, and I'm delighted to hear that you loved the garden room and the location of the property. The property is indeed very old and we have tried to compromise between the keeping it's character and modern conveniences. There is a separate under counter freezer, aswell as the fridge. As for the shower, maybe there were other appliances using water at the same time, the house and the cottage use the same bore hole. The surrounding area, as you might expect, is delightful and the coast is but a short drive away to enjoy and Cardigan is a nice town. So what's not to like? A perfect place for peace and quiet and to rest and that is just what we did. We certainly hope to return in the future.

  • "Pleasant location albeit somewhat remote and accessible along very narrow lanes: thank goodness for the SatNav!"

Comfort within the cottage was quite acceptable albeit a little dark in the front lounge at all times. However, the sun lounge and kitchen area were brighter and more welcoming. Very pleasant to pass the time in an evening. Sleeping accommodation was quite acceptable. The cottage faces east and consequently the sun shone through the thin blind and curtain making for an early awakening each morning. A blackout blind would have greatly assisted in that respect. Lovely open garden in the back, ideal for children or just sitting out in the sunshine. More than adequate kitchen facilities, pleasant eating areas and very spacious. Heating in the property was very good, totally adequate and controllable. Owners were very welcoming and helpful throughout our visit.

This is a wonderful olde worlde quaint, remote cottage next to the owners on a working farm. There are animals right on the doorstep. I was lucky enough to see lambs being born & to hold a day old lamb. Fran & Chez are like old friends, they are not in your face, but allow you to get on with your holiday in your own pace. The cottage is full of charm, there was everything you need for a peaceful relaxing holiday in the perfect location, or if you prefer to get out and about and see the wonderful coastline and local sights. My husband and I, plus our two dogs felt at home and able to relax in comfortable surroundings. Thank you.

Chez and Fran are lovely hosts and after welcoming us, leave us to get on with our holiday. The cottage is constantly being improved and we see something has changed each time we stay. New flooring upstairs this time. The private garden is perfect for dogs and our border collie had great fun chasing a ball around. He even got to chase one of the farm cats which strayed into the garden whilst he was out. A perfect retreat and worth every penny.

A lovely comfortable old cottage hidden away down a track in quiet countryside. We hardly used the lounge - nothing wrong with it, we just preferred to sit in the conservatory watching the birds. Only slight criticism was the fridge with a tiny icebox. For anyone who enjoys having the time to cook while on holiday it wasn't adequate and the broken door rack further reduced storage capacity. There was plenty of room for a fridge/freezer. Apart from that we spent a happy fortnight there
