  • "Chronic damp in en-suite bedroom."

Owners attempting to mask with diffuser. When one opens the wardrobe, it is overpowering. Very poor quality mattresses which belong at the tip. Twin beds are for children - not adults. Settee offered nil support when used. Heating system highly controlled with FIVE time settings which made tenants constantly have to override to achieve any warmth. Fourteen degrees at night? Why do owners think they can spend money on prettifying a property (lovely bathrooms) and then neglect the basics? Sykes property guidelines for potential owners specifically states there should be ‘ no hint of damp’ and comfortable mattresses. We had to leave after three nights as unhealthy and uncomfortable. It isn’t our job to carry out property inspections and we weren’t prepared to have confrontation with owners over matters that cannot be rectified. The owner denies the property has a damp problem - really? Heating needs to be around 18-22 continuously to deal with damp. £700 for a week in October ? We completed our trip to the Gower in a lovely modern warm caravan……

Whilst everyone is entitled to their opinion we would refer you to multiple previous reviews which we feel speak for themselves. It is a great pity that this guest has chosen to hide behind an email review. Being owners who live on site, and had personally welcomed the guest on arrival, it would have been simple to view the issues which does not need to be confrontational dependant on the manner in which they are raised. Guests have full control over the heating temperature via the thermostat control, all as detailed within a comprehensive information booklet. Air fresheners are a common household item, used in many homes across the country. We note the comments regarding the single bed mattresses and these have now been renewed. It. Is also extremely disappointing that this guest chose to depart, leaving the property unlocked overnight without any contact with the owners or Sykes cottages. ( not even a text message or email !!!). We are therefore unable to accept the majority of the issues raised and trust previous reviews reflect a more accurate picture of this property. It was immaculately clean and the welcome pack was a lovely surprise, which included home baked cakes. The owners live next door and were happy ti answer any questions and their information book was very comprehensive, containing not only information on the house, its appliances but local cafes, restaurants, walks and places to visit. ! Weather was very wet, unseasonably cool, electric fire in lounge thankfully helped but radiators would have been much better especially in bedrooms, otherwise a really lovely holiday cottage.

With regard to the heating the thermostat in the lounge is programmed for set times and temperatures but the guest can easily override these settings with the temperature up and down buttons which are freely accessible. Fully equipped kitchen including consumables, bin bags etc and a welcome pack with delicious cakes! Comprehensive user manual. Beds and bedding are basic but comfortable. Slightly damp smell in main bedroom - fortunately we enjoyed decent weather (for The Gower) so able to open windows continually. Spacious bathrooms. Cosy lounge/diner. The private garden needed tidying and a bit of weeding. The local pub has now closed. The cottage and location are beautiful, the owners are very friendly and helpful. Would we stay here again? Absolutely

We were pleased to read that you thought both the cottage and location were beautiful. The local pub unfortunately closed a few years ago and the listing details were immediately changed to maintain the listings accuracy. We appreciate that the garden needed its normal weekly maintenance but unfortunately due to the wet weather conditions we were unable to carry this out. 30pm sent a text to the owner who came over after a few moments and she said its because the radiators were up to temperature as they had thermostatic valves. all the valves were set to 5 which is the highest they go the cottage was getting cold so it was not the valves, she had a look at the boiler which was not on despite it being on a timed programme and pressed a button to reset and the boiler restarted about 2 hours later we had to reset the boiler again ourselves and we had to keep doing this for the duration of the holiday sent the owner another text at 9.30am on Monday to say we have to keep resetting the boiler every 2 hours otherwise the radiators go off and the cottage goes cold, she came over again and said again its the thermostatic valves and that's how its set up despite the cottage being cold my mother who is 85 feels the cold could tell when the heating was going off and we had to keep an eye on the time to get ready to reset the boiler, there was a electric heater in the lounge so we had to put that on to get some heat in the lounge overall the cottage was nice and cosy just the heating was the problem

This little village is between the popular beachside villages of Rhossili and Port Eynon and is close to the fantastic beaches of the Gower Peninsula including Oxwich Bay. A perfect central location to be a short distance from fantastic coastline and the iconic Worms Head. The little village has various footpaths crisscrossing the area, shop, pharmacy, doctors surgery and take-away, but still retains its sleepy village personality.
