  • "We found the property to be very tired and note the photographs were obviously taken some time ago!"

The front bay window which looks onto the street, two of the pains of glass were badly marked or stained which obscured your view. All the windows throughout the property were very old, single and not double glazed, including the bedrooms, which didn’t close properly, allowing the street noise at the front to come in. This meant, unfortunately, we were awakened most mornings around 5:30 am by speeding cars, lorries, buses, tractors etc as this is the main road. We are very careful when we book properties and we always read the reviews so we cannot believe that no one at all has commented on the traffic noise. We can only assume that people didn’t sleep in the front bedroom because if they had I’m quite sure they would’ve commented. We did note that someone had mentioned the front bedroom window with the bunkbeds in had a broken latch and so the window would not close properly and the reply was that it would be repaired before the next visitors arrived. We were the next visitors, and this was still broken. Luckily we did not need this bedroom. On a positive note the property was very well equipped with everything you would need for a family or couple to cook or eat. We did find it odd that each bathroom only had one very small toilet roll. Bearing in mind this property could sleep nine people, one toilet roll in each toilet would not have been adequate. Surely a spare could’ have been provided bearing in mind the cost of the property. It’s small touches like this, plus hand soap in the kitchen, a small carton of milk for a cuppa on arrival and maybe a box of tissues that are important to us rather than a bottle of Prosecco and a couple of packets of biscuits and some popcorn in the welcome pack. Bearing in mind check out was 10am and check in was 4pm we have to wonder how long the cleaners were actually there as no windows were cleaned including the balcony glass which was actually green! This is the first time we’ve booked through Sykes cottages and generally book through Airbnb or Country Cottages. Whether it’s Sykes cottages that deal with this or the owners we’re not sure, however we will have to consider carefully before booking through Sykes cottages again.

Dear Steven, I'm sorry to hear of your problems at Tan Y Craig. It is a family holiday cottage and much loved by ourselves and regular users. With regards to your comments about the windows, they have all been measured and replacements/repairs are due to be done at the start of next season. There is a constant maintenance program on the cottage as is needed with an Old Welsh Cottage near the sea. We appreciate any feedback and always have it in mind when preparing for the season. I'm pleased you report that the property is well equipped and I will have a word with the Housekeeper regarding the toilet rolls and Sykes regarding their general management. Kind regards, Rob and Laura Property Owner

  • "Tan-Y-Craig is a lovely cottage in the middle of Solva."

The open plan kitchen, sun deck and two living rooms give lots of space for socialising. Solva is beautiful, has plenty of pubs and places to eat and is well placed for walks and beaches. We had a great time. Thank you.

Dear James, So pleased to hear you enjoyed the cottage and Solva. We look forward to welcoming you back as guests in the future. Kindest regards, Rob and Laura Property Owner

  • "The cottage was lovely."

Very clean and well equipped. The only down size was that the cottage was not very warm. We tried to light the fire but it kept going out. Near to excellent pubs and the harbour so perfect location.

Hi Denise, Very pleased that you enjoyed the cottage. Please let the team at Sykes know if you feel the property is cold in future as the property is fully managed. The cottage should be maintained at a comfortable heat with the opportunity to override the temperature using the NEST thermostat located on the 1st floor landing. Kindest regards, R&L Property Owner

  • "House could do with some TLC - paint chipped in areas but particuarly the windows need looking at."

Filthy in and out with the front lounge windows not closing properly and seemed warped. The front bedroom with bunks - the window handles had fallen off so did not close at all, making it a safety hazard with kids along with making the traffic noise unbearable and the room was not used for this purpose. Without double glazing - the rooms on the front were so loud. House had huge cobwebs in areas and a musty damp smell overall. Was x 3 bags of food waste left in the bin area attracting bugs, which was not collected during our stay, along with our own rubbish which was not collected on the Monday as stated. The In- house information book needs updating as they say rubbish is collected on a Thursday but was told Monday by Sykes. In both cases, rubbish not collected during visit. Also in the In- house information book, they say the Harbour car park opposite is free for National Trust users which is not the case so a little misleading.

Thank you for your feedback. There is a regular maintenance program at the house so any areas you have mentioned will be looked at promptly. The bin collection has only just changed in the last few weeks due to the Welsh Government changing the rules so we will update the collection date within the handbook on the next available opportunity. We apologise if you feel misled regarding the parking in the Harbour Car Park, all I can say is that I have used the car park for the past 11 years displaying my National Trust Membership card and this has been accepted by the local Car Park Officials. Below is some information I have taken from Solva Community Website: https://solva.gov.wales/solva-car-park/ "Although there is nothing on the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority (PCNPA) signage to alert National Trust members I can confirm that “National Trust members can park for free in the PCNPA car park in Solva – as long as a valid membership card or sticker is displayed clearly on the front windscreen or dashboard. I have left two jackets there, how do I go about getting them back? Thanks Hannah

Hi Hannah, Just checking how you got on with finding your jackets. I understand you have been in touch with the managing agents but just checking they have been found and you have received them? Kind regards, Rob Property Owner

Beds extremely comfortable, lots of thoughtful touches that you do not need to bring anything extra along. Loved the welcome gift as well. Thank you, we loved it.
