  • "We previously stayed at Cwtch Lodge and absolutely loved it so were happy to book again in February of this year for a stay in September."

However this time we sadly found the lodge to be in a state of disrepair and are sad to say that we won't stay there again. There were numerous stains on the carpet throughout and lots of damp and wet patches in the main bathroom, over the floor, around the edges of the skirting and across the bath panel. There were also damp patches over the whole floor of the en suite and a strong smell of damp. The latch in the main bathroom door was missing albeit could still be 'shut' by giving it a shove into the frame. In addition to this the sofas are now really uncomfortable as they no longer have any support in the seat cushions and the mattress on the double bed in the second bedroom definitely needs replacing. The wand for the kitchen blind was missing which is only a minor thing but for the cost of a week at the lodge you would expect things like this to be dealt with. We contacted the owner on our arrival day and very kindly received a response the next day. She explained that the cleaner had found the lock in the door of the main bathroom had been damaged so had removed it to be replaced. She explained that there had been a leak in the ensuite and a damaged pipe on the main bathroom shower which affected the ensuite, main bathroom, hall and master bedroom and they had waited for everything to dry out before cleaning the carpets. We obviously understand that problems occur in any accommodation but think that it would have been better to have been advised of all of the above in advance of our stay and been given the chance to rebook for alternative dates (post repairs), a partial refund on the cost of the booking or even the option to cancel our booking altogether with a full refund.

  • "The lodge needs to be maintained ."

The cleaning facilities were nil . All the lodges we have stayed at had these items to maintain the cleanliness of toilet and shower rooms. Bathroom door very hard to close and open door needs seeing too . Damp smell in bedrooms . Very let down by this lodge as have stayed here at the site for the past ten years .

  • "Upon entering the lodge everything looked neat and tidy."

We entered the hallway and noticed a fousty smell and saw the carpet was very wet , then noticed in the main bedroom around the en suite door area there was also a wet patch and en suite floor marked with damp stains , because of the smell we couldn’t hang our clothes in the main bedroom. On further inspection of another bedroom wardrobe there were blankets which were soiled with excrement. The handle on the bathroom door was loose and caused a problem getting in and out. We immediately contacted the owner and she arranged for the blankets to be collected by the cleaner who provided a small mat to help cover the area in the hallway. Speaking to the owner the following day to voice our concerns about the damp we mentioned a previous review which had similar problems with damp and wondered why the issues hadn’t been resolved . The owner seemed to be aware of the issues and thought they were resolved , as we felt this could be a separate issue we felt that she should inspect the property for herself and she agreed to come on the Wednesday but she didn’t show up-or contact us again to explain why.The owner arranged for a plumber to call on the Monday and he resealed the shower waste and hopefully resolve the leak but it hadn’t dried out by the time we left. The lounge sofas were very uncomfortable and the furniture in that area was unclean. The kitchen was clean and well equipped. We have stayed at stepaside before in another lodge and found the area great and outside areas well maintained. I certainly wouldn’t stay at cwtch42 again or recommend it.

  • "Bathroom shower leaking, rang Doug on Monday to tell him."

He said he would fix it but in the meantime all six of us had to use the shower in the en suite. Also reported that the carpet in the hallway was wet, presumably from a leak somewhere. He said he already knew about that - so why hadn’t he fixed it or at least warned us about it? After our call to him on Monday we never heard anything more from him before we left on Friday and neither problem was sorted while we were there.

I may. Be a little fussy .the curtain in the bedroom’s didn’t match . We would come back if these lssues were sorted and recommended to our friends

  • "Had a wonderful stay at this accommodation was clean and tidy on arrival, the only downside was the mattress in the second bedroom which was very uncomfortable and looked very old which caused issues and the two sofas which again were really uncomfortable."

On the plus side all other aspects of the accommodation were good, would stay again but would bring a mattress topper for that second bedroom.

  • "The lodge was spotless when we arrived."

On our first morning we found that the radiator in the dining area had been leaking and there was a substantial puddle of water on the floor, we also had no hot water. We contacted the owners and they came over straight away and fixed the problem. After that we had no other issues. The lodge is beautiful in a stunning location. There was everything in the lodge that you could need for a self catering holiday. We took my mum with us and she said that the mattress in the second bedroom was very lumpy and wasn't very comfortable. We didn't use the third bedroom with the single beds. The en suite bedroom was very comfortable. There was a slight smell of damp in the small passageway, it looked like there may have been a damp issue in the past. There are some areas that could do with a little tlc but saying that we would definitely return as we loved the location and the peaceful surroundings.

  • "This lodge is advertised as excellent and I note there are no review since April 2025."

The photos are not a true picture of the lodge, the kitchen appliances, sofas and the double mattress in the second bedroom need replacing. Steve the Contract Cleaner is doing his best, to clean a lodge which is in need of a refurb. There is mould on the base of the single divans, the flooring in the family bathroom needs replacing too. I paid over £900 for a week and I would have expected a better standard of accommodation. Where I appreciate dogs are allowed to stay, this cannot be blamed for the state of the lodge. You have a duty to advertise up to date photos which should be given to you by the owners on a regular basis. I know you won't put my review on your website but maybe you should. Disappointed customer I wont be booking with Sykes Cottage again!!

This place exceeded our expectations. Communication was excellent, the lodge is very comfy, homely and just a short walk through a wooded path to the sea. The lodge is beautifully decorated, immaculately clean, very spacious and has everything you would need and more. I rang the owner by mistake who told me to ring the manager on site. I rang the manager and Stuart came immediately and lent us a brand new replacement toaster until he could find out what was wrong with the toaster as it was obviously not working. Five minutes later the manager came back to remove the brand-new toaster as he had been instructed by the owner that there was nothing wrong with the toaster we had and that we had to hold it in a certain way. We tried the way we were instructed to use it but it was hopeless and ridiculous as a toaster is easy to use, still could not get the toaster to work, Stuart the manager of the site was excellent and went out of his way to help us but unfortunately, he had to do as instructed. We went out and bought our own toaster. There were no books or DVDs in the lodge as stated and just the basic of items, no frills or luxuries. It is a beautiful lodge. We have stayed on this beautiful site for the past four years in a variety of lodges and have always been very happy with the standard provided. This was the first visit to this particular lodge and it will be our last.

It has central heating, only had put it on in the morning for an hour and the lodge stayed warm for the rest of the day. Added bonus was having a washer/dryer and dishwasher. Leaflets available at the lodge for all appliances. There is no shop or anything on the site, but I found it very central to travel to other places. • "What a beautiful lodge, set within a well maintained, peaceful site."

Cwtch Lodge 42 was very well presented, clean and better than the photos shown. The interior was very spacious and the wrap around decking was perfect for those sunnier days to relax upon with a drink. The well equipped kitchen had everything you could need, with enough room to manoeuvre around whilst cooking with plenty of cupboard space for the little extras that you bring. The bedrooms themselves were very clean, fresh and most importantly had more than enough storage for your luggage. We spent a week here but had we stayed longer there would of been ample room to accommodate the extra clothing required. At night you could hear the sea crashing in the distance. A nice little walk to the beach takes around 15 minutes depending upon your stride, the path leads you straight from the park taking you to the beautiful Wisemans Bridge beach through woodland. With a smooth walkway for those with buggies, mobility scooters or wheelchairs. There are many pathways surrounding the park to choose from with stunning scenery and plenty of fresh, clean air. The park staff were friendly and very helpful making our week more enjoyable. A special thank you to Kevin who was the contact for Cwtch Lodge 42 and was on site and answered all enquiries we had. And to Stuart who made sure we were kept informed of everything. An exceptional Lodge set within a beautiful coastline that we highly recommend to all, we have sent photos and links to this place to family and friends throughout our stay. Thanks again to Kevin and Stuart.
