Kilmuir Cottage

Wonderful place!

We had a really nice stay at the cottage and could explore our surroundings from there. There is lots to do in the Cairngorms and we had lovely weather for our exploring. The dogs in the neighbourhood were a few times a bit annoying and it is sad that the owners have such a wonderful cottage and the neighbours can't get their dogs to stop barking. Overall we can recommend the lovely cottage, especially when visiting with kids!

Lovely, comfortable cottage with all amenities.

Our stay was spoiled, however, by three large noisy dogs over the fence, barking loudly from 6am some days. Every time we used the garden or went to the car or bins, they would go crazy, jumping up at the fence. To add to the stressful noise, the adjoining cottage residents were outside, playing loud intrusive music until nearly 11pm on one occasion - such a shame when the rest of the village was so quiet and the owners had clearly gone to a lot of effort to create a beautiful home. The sound of the oyster catchers and curlews overhead was completely drowned out. We were unable to sit out and enjoy the garden, which was very disappointing since it was gloriously hot. We had to shut all doors and windows to get some peace and quiet, and were then sweltering in airless 26 degree temperatures.

Fantastic cottage.

Very well equipped with quality equipment - everything you could need. I have stayed in a lot of holiday cottages and this is perhaps the best equipped. Biscuits very welcome. Great location with useful bits in the village. Particularly recommend Clockhouse Restaurant.

It is an amazing and beautiful cottage with so many thoughtful things which came in use for us.

The landlord responded so quickly when we wanted to adjust the temperature of the house. Coming in the Christmas week and having a Christmas tree was quite a surprise for us

Well equipped in terms of entertainment and for cooking and dining. Beds very comfortable with plenty of storage. Great location for local walks and big enough driveway for two vehicles.

We had a lovely week at Kilmuir Cottage.

The property is a modern, spacious eco house and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is really well equipped and the house generally has lots of gadgets. The porch has lots of coat hooks and loads of space for boots etc so is ideal for walkers. The driveway made parking easy. We had a couple of very minor issues with kitchen equipment which Dave resolved very quickly for us. Tomintoul is a great base for the Cairngorms. We did lots of walks locally and drove to the Moray Coast and Balmoral. The village store is well stocked and there are other interesting shops. The Clockhouse restaurant is great as is the cafe in the Highland Market. The generous box of Walkers Shortbread biscuits on arrival was much appreciated! We would love to come back one day.

An exceptionally well kitted out modern and comfortable house, with everything you could need.

The house is in a great location in the centre of Tomintoul and perfect for exploring. Really helpful hosts (thank you), who were excellent communicators. Would highly recommend and we hope to come back. (The kids wanted to stay!).

A great base to explore the Cairngorms from and had every possible amenity needed. Cleanliness was spot on, would return in a heartbeat!

Wonderful comfortable cottage in a lovely village.

Cottage was spotlessly clean, and absolutely everything that could be required was provided. All equipment and materials were new and of good quality. Really comfortable base, lovely biscuits (thanks), great weather, wonderful holiday.

Kilmuir Cottage was spotlessly clean, very well equipped, comfortable and conveniently situated for visiting beautiful Speyside, Cairngorms and the Glenlivet Estate.

The only very slight downside for us was that it was a bit too warm. The minimum temperature was set at 21C whereas we are used to 19C, so it would have been nice to have been able to request a lower base. However, we do acknowledge that 21 is probably comfortable for most people. It was also very hot (27C) on return to the property, despite leaving blinds and windows closed. Apart from that slight issue, everything else was great and we would recommend.

We had a fantastic week at Kilmuir Cottage.

The cottage is extremely well equipped, comfortable and in beautiful, quiet surroundings. As birders and stargazers Tomintoul was a perfect base. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting the explore the Cairngorms and beyond.

An excellent base for exploring the region

This cottage is in near perfect condition, and very well equipped.

Every aspect was comfortable. We found it to be a great base for exploring the region and all it has to offer. The information booklet in the house is very accurate, and we loved the wee gift of Walkers Shortbread. Thanks for all of this.

Kilmuir Cottage came up to our expectations based upon your descripttion and provided a perfect base for our break in Tomintoul

We have stayed in lots of places over the years and I must say, this was the best.

Spotless and spacious. The kitchen was the best equipped and really was home from home. The area was fabulous. Walks for all abilities and the village a couple of minutes stroll which was handy for the local shop. At first I thought the village was a little out of the way - but everywhere was so easily accessible. We visited quaint villages/the coast/distillery and even a round of golf was squeezed in amongst multiple walks. Topped off by coming back to comfy home from home. We had a truly wonderful time.

We were delighted with Kilmuir cottage for our short stay in Tomintoul.

The house is very comfortable and the open kitchen / lounge layout worked great for us. The kitchen has everything needed and all good quality. Thanks to the good weather, we did not get time to use the entertainment system, but it looks great. It was very clean on our arrival. Nice outdoor space accessible from the lounge to enjoy the Tomintoul sunshine!

We loved staying at Kilmuir Cottage, everything was very clean.

Very good entertainment system including TV, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth speaker & Alexa. The range of crockery, glasses, utensils and cooking equipment was the most comprehensive we have experienced. The beds were very comfortable with good quality bedding & towels. The only slightly negative comment was that although the sofas were of good quality (feather cushions etc) we didn’t fine them comfortable. All in all we really enjoyed ourselves and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend staying here.

This is our second visit to this lovely cottage and it did not disappoint.

Comfortable, well equipped and well situated for access to the village as well as trips out and about. Look forward to coming to stay again in near future.

The Cottage was fantastic there was everything you could possibly wish for.

It was lovely and warm, every little touch was thoughtfully catered for,a real home from home. Tomintoul was a great base to visit the Cairngorms. We hope to be back.

Nothing really negative, but a couple of things we did notice and know full well that it is to personal taste was the couches were stunning into themselves plus the hot water would not last 2 showers, as mentioned these are personal thoughts and not at any point criticisms.

The overall cottage was great and perfect for what was required.

Excellent property, spotlessly clean, well kitted out.

The most comfortable bed I've slept in at a self catering property. Lovely situation in village, handy for local walks. Looking forward to a return visit in the summer.

Beautifully appointed and cosy new build cottage - it had everything we could need for our week there.

We also loved Tomintoul village, which has good basic shopping facilities etc while still being very rural. It’s a winding drive from Aviemore, and high up, which means there are loads of amazing walks straight from the front door and the scenery is beautiful, but is worth bearing in mind when planning travel and activities (ie weather matters).

This is one of the best cottages we have ever stayed in.

It is cosy, clean, well equipped and well maintained. The owners have obviously put a lot of thought into trying to ensure there is everything necessary for a great stay. They have succeeded!! We have already booked again for next year. Many thanks.

Lovely house, had a great stay.

Small thing, the lightbulbs in the bedside lights in the twin room aren't right for the dimable lights. They flicker and are unusable, bulbs just need changed.

Lovely week spent at Kilmiur cottage with my hisband and 2 young boys.

We were all very comfortable and the location was perfect for us. A great base to get out and about in the Highlands.

A home from home in the friendly village of Tomintoul.

The house was very clean and comfortable with everything we needed for a wonderful week. It’s well situated to tour the area and beyond, we hope to be back next year.

the property was on the edge of the village the photo makes you think its in the middle of the country.

This was not a problem as meant we were closer to the village than we thought. Everything you need is in the property but we found it far too hot as the temperature is auto set to 21% and you can not adjust this from the property .As the weather was nice we opened all the windows this helped then to regulate the heat. May be worth noting in the information that the local shop only opened until 5pm

Can’t really fault anything.

Spent a week here and enjoyed it. Host seems to have got it spot on. Book and you won’t be dissatisfied. Comfortable beds/furniture. Kitchen has all you need, dishwasher and washer plus small things like teapot, ice trays, food storage boxes. It’s pretty much turn up, unpack and enjoy.
