  • “I relate the term “Bothy” to pokey wooden huts, very basic living and isolation.”

It’s not like that. The accommodation is spacious and very cosy and comfortable. There is the luxury of a loo on each floor, a walk in pantry and a fridge and separate freezer. All facilities we wanted were there. Heating is excellent. Any problems and the owner is next door and has community contacts to solve problems that arise. A previous review bemoaned the lack of wine glasses- When we were there there were three types of wine glass. This is an owner that cares! ...

A previous review bemoaned the lack of wine glasses- When we were there there were three types of wine glass. This is an owner that cares! You should know however that it is a bit isolated by many people’s standards at the end of a half mile farm track from the hamlet/village of Stoke Ash. The pub (The White Horse -5star in my book) is 1.2 miles and shopping is 3miles+ in Eye. It is of course an excellent centre for exploring that part of East Anglia. If you want to walk public footpaths take a good OS map and/or ask directions. Car access is not a problem. Although it is a working farm in some respects work does not centre on the farmyard where the cottage is and it is very quiet. If you want a silent retreat: A fortnight’s total escape to finish writing that novel - this is it.

The property

Eye 4 miles.

A charming, detached cottage resting on a 160-acre working arable and livestock farm, set in a rural location in the village of Stoke Ash.

The Bothy has been designed to offer a peaceful base for couples looking to get away to a beautiful part of East Anglia.

The large kitchen is ideal for rustling up a tasty dinner for your partner and getting together around the dining table, while the spacious sitting room has doors out to the lovely lawned garden.

There is one double bedroom with bedside tables and reading lamps, and the family bathroom offers a shower over the bath.

To the exterior, you have your very own private garden area in which to enjoy a spot of alfresco dining or soak up the sun with a refreshing beverage in hand.

Eye itself offers a variety of shops, pubs and eateries, while nearby Stowmarket and Diss provide yet more choice.

There are many museums in the area, as well as a golf course at Stowmarket, or slightly further afield lies the picturesque Suffolk coastline, while inland are the cycle trails and Go Ape!

high wire experience at Thetford Forest.

Alternatively, spend an afternoon at the city of Norwich where you will be delighted to find further amenities and attractions including the Norman castle and the 11th-century cathedral.

A superb retreat for a relaxing holiday with your loved one.

About the location

EYE

Diss 5 miles; Stowmarket 16 miles.

The small town of Eye is considered by its inhabitants to be more like a village. It has a number of shops, pubs and restaurants, and monthly cinema nights are held at the community centre. Just 5 miles away is the market town of Diss, in the beautiful Waveney Valley. The town has some excellent examples of Georgian and Edwardian buildings, as well as an award-winning museum, the public park, the mere (lake) and shops and restaurants. The Market operates every Friday and coincides with a local antiques and collectables auction. Speciality markets, flea markets and farmers' markets are also held regularly. The town of Stowmarket has an 18 hole golf course, Suffolk's only open air museum, and a variety of shops and pubs. Explore the Suffolk Coast, or visit Thetford Forest (with its Go Ape high wire experience). Other attractions in the area include the wonderful Steam Museum and Gardens at Bressingham and the zoo at Banham.
