  • "A really comfortable and well thought out property."

The photos don't do it justice! Excellent welcome pack (enough to keep us going for a couple of days so we didn't need to shop immediately). Great property manual full of recommendations for things to do in the area. Plenty of dog friendly things to do without driving, sea about 400 yards and some good circular dog walks. Garden lovely, dog enjoyed it enormously. 6 stars out of 5! Highly recommended

We just want to say thank you for your lovely review, it warms the cockles to hear you had a great stay. When putting together The Annexe we wanted to create the sort of place that we would want to stay in ourselves with the little touches that we, and our dog Ellie, would appreciate. Sounds like those little touches did the trick! Property Owner

  • "Thank you Lorna for the use of the Annexe this past week."

You seem to have thought of everything down to the bottle of wine from the Shotley Vineyard! I can report that the WiFi that was upgraded during our stay was over 600 Mbps. All the extras that you have put in were very much appreciated - we would have needed a fortnight to test them all! Would be happy to recommend the annexe to any couples visiting the Shotley Peninsula.

Thank you for your kind words about your stay, we truly appreciate them. We believe that fast internet is an essential nowadays so it is great to hear that the upgrade is delivering on that front. If you ever fancy coming back to Suffolk and exploring more, you know where we are! Property Owner

  • "What an amazing stay!"

The Annexe @ Shotley Cottage is a lovely space which was relaxing as soon as my wife and I walked through the door. The lounge area, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom are all spotlessly clean and airy, and there was plenty of space for us. The bed was super comfy and roomy with beautifully pressed white linen. We loved the bathrobes, slippers and fluffy white bath sheets which all added to the luxurious finish. The outside space was amazing, the garden lights, fire pit and cushioned outside seating areas made eating outdoors a real treat. We would highly recommend a stay at The Annexe and will definitely be back. Thank you for a fabulous, ten out of ten stay!

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at The Annexe @ Shotley Cottage; it means the world to us to get such positive feedback. We do look forward to seeing you again soon! Property Owner

Step inside and discover a thoughtfully arranged studio-style living space that makes it easy to settle into holiday mode.

The layout combines sleeping, dining, and relaxing areas, creating an intimate setting for spending quality time together.

On cooler evenings, light the woodburning stove and unwind as its glow fills the room, while the television provides entertainment after a day of exploration. Shotley Gate enjoys a unique position on the beautiful Shotley Peninsula, making it a wonderful destination for waterside walks, sailing heritage and scenic adventures.

Nestled between the River Orwell and the Stour Estuary, it is one of the few places in the country where you can watch both the sunrise and sunset over water, with spectacular sunrises across the North Sea and breathtaking sunsets over the west-facing Stour Estuary. The village is home to a seasonal foot ferry service, operating from late March to late October, offering a delightful way to explore the surrounding coastline with crossings to Felixstowe and the historic town of Harwich.

Just a short drive away lies the charming sailing hamlet of Pin Mill, renowned for its traditional boatyards, links to Arthur Ransome of Swallows and Amazons fame, and the famous Butt & Oyster Inn, where at high tide the waters of the Orwell gently lap against the pub's walls. For those keen to discover Suffolk's rich heritage, the stunning landscapes of Constable Country are less than 15 miles away.

Visit Flatford Mill and the picturesque scenery that inspired John Constable's iconic painting, The Hay Wain.

Nearby Manningtree, reputed to be one of England's smallest towns, offers independent shops, welcoming places to eat and the popular Walls riverside walk with far-reaching estuary views. Further afield, Ipswich offers a blend of history and culture, from Christchurch Mansion and Christchurch Park to the vibrant Waterfront marina.

Alternatively, spend a day in Felixstowe, where you can enjoy the promenade, Felixstowe Pier, Landguard Fort and miles of coastline. Whether you're exploring historic towns, discovering Suffolk's maritime heritage, or simply soaking up the ever-changing estuary views, The Annexe @ Shotley Cottage provides a wonderfully peaceful base from which to experience this unique corner of Suffolk.
