  • "Valetta is an excellent holiday home for adults and children - right on the beach - I swam every morning!"

    However, this is not a luxury home. Some of the equipment is a bit iffy. The washing machine has only a hot water hookup, so cold water washing is not an option. The oven temperature settings have worn off, so using the oven involves trial and error. The toilet cistern in the West bathroom does not fill properly and needs manual intervention. The shower thermostat does not get cooler than very hot. But despite these challenges, we had a great time!

  • "A really lovely property located right on the beach and within a short walk of a really good pub."

    What more could you want? The beach outside the property itself isn’t dog friendly from May to October but a few hundred yards walk to the left as you leave the property gets you onto the dog friendly part of the beach. The beach to the right was closed when we visited due to recent cliff falls. The property itself is clean and well furnished. The bed we slept in was really comfortable, with quality linen. There is a large walk-in shower with lovely soft towels. There is also a well equipped kitchen with two fridges and in an outside shed there is a freezer, washing machine and dryer. Outside at the rear there is a large table with chairs on the decking overlooking the sea. If you are looking for a relaxing time away with dogs this is definitely the place to book.

  • "We absolutely loved our stay, thank you!"

    . We loved the decor and it was very comfortable and practical. You can't beat the location with the sea on one side and the Meare on the other, and we would love to return!

  • "We’ve stayed at this property for over twelve years, we love it."

    However it needs some tlc, the outhouse door is rotten and is not the easiest to open or close, the gardens have been left to the rabbits and their poo - seems a shame as previously that was a great sun trap.

  • "Valetta is a special house in a special place."

    We loved the personal feel of the place - nothing generic about it. Warm, cosy, safe for dogs....beautiful outlook wherever you are. It allowed us all to relax and just BE. Thank you. We will be back next year. More oven dishes and a small saucepan would be great ! x

  • "Great location."

    Great views. Pebble beach. Mad people swimming early morning !! Needs a little tlc on paintwork. Heating problem sorted quickly - thank you! Leak under bath reported. Sorry but guests said there was a musty smell in smaller bedroom. Finally found the freezer in the shed but the two fridges were very welcome. Take your own comfortable outside chairs as only a wooden table with benches and one sitting out comfortable chair and one quite old deck chair. Concrete steps to beach quite steep. Garden near beach could do with some tlc. However, all that said - we had a great holiday despite some rain and strong wind. Thank you.

  • "The house glorious and works perfectly and the shower is wonderful and your information book was great having to find a vet on our arrival day was made incredibly easy."

    The garden has potential to be a wonderful space to enjoy as the sun raises at the back and sets at the front. We would return it is a wonderful location to explore from and then relax in thank you for having us.

  • "It’s a brilliance place and we had a great time again."

    Two things need addressing: 1. A previous visitor I’m guessing 2-3 weeks ago allowed their large dog to poo all round the garden. I picked up over 10. You need your cleaning team to check and, when it’s this bad, fine the people. Not nice. 2. The main oven obviously has not been cleaned in a very very long time. When cooking we would be hit by terrible smoking and burning smells when opening the door . We still had a great time. But please address these for other people. Cheers Phil

I've just bought a handheld pooper scooper to ensure that the grass area around the house is easy to inspect and manage on a regular basis - so I hope you won't have face this issue at Valetta ever again. I've also booked a specialist oven cleaner to come out and take the oven apart and get to the bottom of the problems you had with it. During your stays please feel free to let us know of any problems like this and we can get them sorted pronto. In the meantime, thank you for being a loyal returning visitor and I'm really delighted that despite these things you had a great time. Property Owner

The property

Once a fisherman's dwelling, this unique single storey wooden beachside self-catering Suffolk holiday property is light and airy with dramatic sea views on three sides of the building. Open Plan Living/Kitchen/Dining Room The open plan living space with natural fibre carpet runs down two sides of the property and has ample seating on the large corner sofa and a large day bed - both finished with masses of cushions.

A long refectory table provides a wonderful setting for meals with family and friends, which can be cooked on the Smeg range cooker in the simply furnished kitchen. Bedrooms A door leads from the living area to the bedrooms and bathrooms.

There are two rooms with double beds and a third has four built-in bunk beds, two of which are child-sized.

The upper bunks are reached via a step ladder.

This third bedroom has interior rather than external windows which look out into the living room, with views beyond this to the sea.

Although the bedrooms aren't particularly big, this is made up for by the generously-sized communal areas and superb location on the beach. Bathroom There's a bathroom with bath, washbasin and w.c. Shower Room This has an overhead shower, washbasin and w.c. Outside Patio doors lead from the living room area to a generously sized natural patio area which looks directly out to sea across the sand and shingle beach, with private steps leading onto the beach.

The large outside table and chairs plus deck chairs make this an ideal vantage point to wile away the hours looking out to sea or reading magazines.

There is off-road parking for two vehicles. Valetta is a very relaxed and chic property, perhaps not as highly finished as some of our other properties but it is incredibly popular and well worth a visit.

Thorpeness is a coastal village resting between Aldeburgh and Southwold. The village is known for its historic windmill and expansive pebble beach and offers a selection of attractions including boat hire at Thorpeness Mere and selection of eateries, while you can stock up on essentials at the nearby convenience stores found at Aldeburgh. Within easy reach of the village is the popular coastal town of Aldeburgh where you can find further attractions and amenities such as another beach, independent shops and coastal walks.
