"This property is in a good location for visiting attractions in East Sussex and Kent."
It is situated on the outskirts of Battle and is physically attached to the owner’s property. The pictures were accurate. Parking is behind the owner’s gates on their drive with easy access for unloading. The entrance is reached by walking along past the front of the owner’s property and then around to the rear. There is a small entrance porch which is useful for coats and shoes.
The entrance leads to a small galley kitchen and a downstairs living room/eating area. It is a reasonably well equipped kitchen with good sized fridge/freezer and a washing machine.
The Wifi was good for emails and browsing the internet. The TV was a smart TV and good for terrestial programmes but streaming programmes was a little slow probably because of a rural internet service.
The stairs to the upstairs bedroom lead off from the kitchen and are steep with 2 landings and are of an unusual design presumably to accommodate for the small space and steepness.
Since it was mid-summer when we visited we did not use the heating. Each radiator had its own thermostatic control valve but since the heating comes from the owner’s property next door there were no timing controls for heating or hot water in the property. There was plenty of hot water from the sinks (which came from the owner’s property next door) and an adequate electric shower over the bath. We had the bedroom windows open at night and there was some early morning traffic noise from the nearby road. Otherwise it was a very quiet neighbourhood. The bed was comfortable and the owners provided good sized towels.
There were lots of NT properties nearby and of course Battle Abbey with its own car park in the centre of Battle. The nearest shopping was in Battle but there were also a variety of good supermarkets in nearby Bexhill on Sea. There was a property information folder and lots of information about local sights.
There were some general fiction books as well as a very good book about the 1066 battle between William and Harold [Secrets of the Norman Invasion by Nick Austin] in the property which was well worth reading if interested in the local history.
The owners were very helpful during our excellent stay and I would recommend the property to others with the proviso that they have no mobility issues with steep and somewhat difficult paddle stairs which the owners do mention in their property description. It was the only downside for us since it made access to the upstairs bedroom a little problematic for people of our age (in the mid 70’s) with minor mobility issues.
Thank you so much for your detailed and thoughtful review. We’re delighted you enjoyed your stay and found our cottage to be a comfortable base for exploring the many wonderful attractions in East Sussex and Kent. The location really is ideal for visiting historic Battle Abbey, local National Trust properties, and the coast at Bexhill and Hastings, so it’s lovely to hear you made the most of it.
We’re glad you found the kitchen well equipped, the bed comfortable, and appreciated the little touches such as the property information folder and local history books. It’s always our aim to make guests feel at home and well looked after, so we’re especially pleased you found us helpful during your stay.
As mentioned in our listing, the stairs are of a traditional cottage design and may not be suitable for those with mobility issues, but many guests find them to be part of the property’s charm. We’re grateful for your note on this, as it helps future visitors make an informed choice.
It was a pleasure hosting you, and we’re so pleased you would recommend us to others. We hope to welcome you back again in the future!

"A delightful annexe for two."
Well equipped, clean and very comfortable. Steep staircase to first floor, fine for us, but wouldn't suit everyone.
Thank you for your kind words! We’re so pleased you found the annexe clean, well equipped, and comfortable – it’s wonderful to know you enjoyed your stay. The cottage is designed as a cosy retreat for two, and we’re glad it suited you well.
As you mention, the staircase is quite steep, which adds to the character of the property but may not be suitable for everyone. We make sure to highlight this in our description so guests can decide if it’s right for them.
It was a pleasure hosting you, and we’d be delighted to welcome you back any time!

"Kim and Mark the owners are a friendly couple and made us feel very welcome."
We enjoyed our stay at Albie's End and seeing the area where the famous 1066 battle took place. Recommend Pevensey Castle for interest and Hailsham is a nice town for shops. A slight negative were the paddle stairs for us which were quite steep, however we got by without any mishap.
Thank you for your lovely comments. We’re delighted you felt welcome at Albie’s End and enjoyed exploring the local area – there really is so much history to discover with Battle Abbey, Pevensey Castle, and the nearby towns.
We appreciate your note about the paddle stairs; as mentioned in our listing, they are steep and not for everyone, but many guests find they add to the character of the property. We’re glad they didn’t stop you from enjoying your stay.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Albie's End."
The cottage has everything we needed and the owners surprised us with a nice welcome pack. The new cottage is warm and comfortable, but you should be aware of the steep staircase up to the bedroom. Albie's End is the right place to explore the South Downs and the coast, we especially enjoyed our walks at Beachy Head. A great plus is the White Hart Inn in walking distance which serves excellent food in a very friendly atmosphere.
Strongly recommended!

"Albie’s End is a wonderful retreat, ideal for a couple/singleton who want some quiet time and an opportunity to venture out and see some local sights."
It is ideally situated for Battle, Hastings and the south coast as well as Bodiam Castle and The Science Observatory. The station is only a few minutes away too so access further afield without driving is also an option. The property is an annexe to the hosts’ home but other than checking everything was ok on arrival and offering to help unload the car, we would never have known. Albie’s End is equipped with everything you need and arriving to find tea/coffee and milk in the fridge was much appreciated (as were the snacks/Prosecco). We were also delighted to find a teapot as we had forgotten to pack the one we usually travel with. Kim and Mark were also wonderfully understanding when due to an unexpected hospital appointment we had to push our arrival back to Sunday evening. A highlight of the week was definitely watching the birds on the strategically placed bird feeders. We would definitely return and fully recommend this rental.
That's great feedback. Thankyou Sally it is much appreciated. We look forward to your return. Hope the weather is better next time :-)

"It is an immaculately clean and well resourced property."
Everything we needed was there and we really appreciated the Christmas tree, mince pies and Prosecco (thank you). `The stairs are dangerous for anyone infirm but this was clearly stated in the information we received. Our only small complaint is that the water pressure in the shower is rather feeble.
Thanks for the feedback, we’re so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. This is our first Christmas so really pleased that what we provided helped with the celebrations.
Agreed that the ‘paddle’ stairs are unusual and take a bit of getting used to, but I can assure you that they are compliant with current building regulations.
With regard the Shower; we don’t normally experience low water pressure, but we are looking into the issue and if anything needs to be done we will sort it.
