What guests are saying
Lovely house in great location for exploring the Highlands, or just for pottering around the village of Newtonmore.
Just returned from extended family holiday (four generations) and everyone loved it. As an amateur chef the two kitchens are pretty amazing, and two comfy lounges mean plenty of room to come together, or not, as people feel. Three shoutouts: first is Mehmoud's Indian (as well as non-indian) who delivers. Second is the next-door Apiary bar and restaurant (attached to the Golf Club) with great food and ale and friendly staff. Third is the Balavil, excellent for dining and for special occasions.
In terms of logistical convenience, attractiveness of setting, and the property’s comfort and amenities, Alvey House is a gem.
Newtonmore is easily accessed from the south, by road, or rail, and is well placed for further Highland exploration. There are good stores, restaurants, and pubs in town and close-by. Local hills provide walks/hikes of varying difficulty. Water sports, fishing, and golf couldn’t be closer. At the centre of all of this is comfortable, well-appointed Alvey House — where there is lots of room for a sizeable group to relax together, or individuals to seek a little privacy. (If you have questions, or concerns, about the property, your hosts are attentive.) I would visit again.
This is our third visit to Alvey house, it never disappoints.
Such a great house for a big group, location is amazing too. Newtonmore is a lovely village. The house itself has everything you need, and the addition of a table tennis table was a bonus this year - kids and adults loved it. We will be back :)
