Lovely property, suitable for families with kids.

We loved it very much.

We had a wonderful week at Thistle Dhu - the house was very well equipped with everything we needed to enjoy our family gathering.

It was lovely to be able to walk from the house all around Newtonmore which is a wonderful town. The hostess made the effort to come and say hello on return from her travels. Thank you

Fantastic family holiday getaway.

Owners made us feel very welcome with lovely hamper and flowers on arrival. Property was perfect for families, great facilities, clean, comfortable and cosy. Must mention utility room which was very roomy and very warm and was brilliant for drying outdoor coats and boots especially considering the Scottish weather. Area was excellent for exploring highlands and cairngorms. Would highly recommend and hope to return in future.

Welcome hamper was extremely generous and thoughtful. House was lovely and cozy, beds were comfortable and showers excellent. The house was VERY well equipped, literally anything you might need was somewhere in the house if you looked for it. The utility room is an excellent drying room without having washing / wet outdoor gear strewn around the house which was very welcome given the changeable weather we experienced. An excellent base for exploring the Highlands.

The is a lovely property perfectly cleaned and amazingly setup.

It a perfect position for exploring newtonmore and so accessible for daytrips. The house was huge much bigger than the pictures made it seem. It would be a perfect setup for larger families and the downstairs bathroom/bedroom would make bringing older members a possibility too. It was perfect, defiantly would return

The thistle dhu was absolutely fantastic what a lovely place, when we arrived in the cottage it was warm and welcoming, we had everything we needed and more!

!. We got a welcome basket full of treats which was a lovely surprise, Patsy the owner was very friendly and helpful. First time in Scotland and will most definitely go back again to Scotland and book the thistle dhu. It’s 5 stars plus … I highly recommend.

The best cottage we have stayed in.

The property has everything you could possibly need or want. The host goes above and beyond to ensure you have a lovely stay. Will definitely be returning!

The cottage was great no problems at all.

My problems are with Sykes Cottages and the double standards with insurance. If you ring up and book you can have breakages for £8, if you book online it’s only included in the £44 travel insurance. My advice is don’t book online but ring up and book. Better still see if it’s advertised elsewhere. I complained and they said someone will contact me. I’m still waiting, I’m finished with Sykes. Sykes I’m still waiting.

What an amazing find!

Patsy (the host) was delightful and the cottage was hands down the best holiday rental we have ever stayed in. It really felt like a home without feeling like you were staying in someone else's home. It was so well equipped in terms of extra touches (tupperwares, utensils, basic pantry items like oil (so often missing in holiday rentals!) and even things like books, boardgames and bath products. Truly a wonderful stay! Not to mention the location was an excellent base to visit the Cairngorms, the west coast and Inverness/Loch Ness. We did a number of nearby day hikes that were stunning and the nearby towns of Kingussie and Aviemore were delightful. Can highly recommend the two pubs in Newtonmore (the Balavil and the Glen) for a great pub meal or a whisky! Thanks so much - Roisin and co. (Melbourne, Australia)

What a wonderful relaxing and welcoming home, we are sad to leave, we have stayed in many holiday homes over the years, Thistle Dhu beats them all.

The owners live next door, always on hand if needed but never intruding, which worked perfectly for us. How lovely to receive such an assortment of goodies in a gift basket catering for the whole family. In some holiday homes not even a pint of milk! The surrounding area is breath taking, just a wonderful week. We would hope to return in the future.

The owners have really thought about what they have provided for groups of holiday makers. The house was clean and really well presented, and was equipped with everything we needed. Owners were very welcoming and helpful. Lots of information about where to go locally. Enjoyed our two weeks here and found lots to do around Newtonmore and the local area. Trips through the mountains and looks of the Cairngorms kept us well occupied. Would definitely come back to this house and area.

We had a wonderful week at Thistle Dhu so much so we have booked another week later this year

Thistle Dhu was the perfect holiday cottage for our family of 7.

A really comfortable space to spend time in, with an exceptionally well stocked kitchen in terms of cooking equipment. Lovely welcome hamper on arrival. Spacious, comfy bedrooms. Great utility room for drying clothes. Newtonmore is a quiet village, with absolutely stunning walks from the doorstep. We enjoyed golf and tennis, only a few minutes walk from the property. Additionally the sleeper train from London stops at Newtonmore, which made travel without a car really easy. We highly recommend this place and will definitely return.

Thistle Dhu is an absolute delight!

The hosts are very warm and welcoming, as is the property. You couldn't ask for more in terms of cleanliness and everything you could need is provided with all the instructions you need. The location is idyllic and within close proximity to local amenities and restaurants. Being within the National Park is fantastic, so many activities are within a short car journey, with other major landmarks being within a reasonable drive. We felt like we were in our home from home and can not thank our wonderful hosts enough for all the care and attention given. We highly recommend and look forward to returning in the future. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Recently returned from another lovely holiday at Thistle Dhu.

Property was warm and comfortable and had all that we needed to enjoy our stay.

Fantastic accommodation that is spacious and superbly equipped as well as being easily accessible from the A9 or by rail.

Patsy and Gregor are superb hosts. Highly recommended. Newtonmore is a great place to be based. There are several hill walks from the house and the very special Highland Folk Museum is nearby.

What a fantastic holiday home!

It was comfortable, spacious and very well equipped. We enjoyed the amazing welcome basket. We had everything we needed for our stay. The red squirrel visiting the garden was an added bonus. We didn't meet the owners as they were on holiday too but I spoke to Patsy on the phone and she kept in touch by text. We enjoyed looking for wildcats in Newtonmore, visiting the Highland Wildlife Park and the Folk museum. The house is in a great area with plenty to see and do. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

A great week in a very comfortable house.

It has the best equipped holiday home kitchen in the country! This is my second stay here and i would very happily stay again when I can.

The Cottage is a wonderful place to stay and has all items for the daily routine and more.

When we first stepped into the house, it felt like coming home. We had a very nice time in Scotland. A very special thanks to the Host for the lovely decorations and the great welcome basket :-).

The owners have put a lot of thought into the house and the welcome pack was much appreciated. There is also lots of information on Newtonmore and the surrounding area regarding walks, eating out and other recreations. We would highly recommend Thistle Dhu to anyone wanting a holiday in this area.

What a wonderful house!

We booked this property for the October school holiday, a group of four adults and two children, and it was excellent. The owners have really taken the time to think of everything you could need from a lovely welcome hamper to a wardrobe full of games, books and dvds. The house is very spacious and cosy with an extremely well equipped kitchen. The beds are very comfy and all bedrooms are a good size. Outside there is a great garden and also a storage (lockable) shed for bikes. From the house, there are many walks and bike paths and the kids and some adults also enjoyed golf at the course which is across the road. Newtonmore was a great base with some nice hotel bars, restaurants and cafes. We would highly recommend this house, one of the best we have ever stayed at!

A very enjoyable stay in a beautiful, comfortable house.

Very comfortable and well-equipped house with a lovely garden (undersold on the listing) that was ideal for 2 families to share, including young children.

Newtonmore is a lovely village and in a great location to explore the area. We hope to return!

The house is beautiful and in a stunning location. Beds were comfortable, kitchen was extremely well stocked (everything you could possibly need for cooking and more) and children were well catered for with stair gates, travel cots, high chairs and games. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in the cairngorms!

Everything you might need is provided. You feel very welcome, f.e. there is a welcome basket with sweets, a bottle of wine and so on. The owners are very kind and hospitable. We enjoyed our stay very much

The house is perfect and has everything you need and more. It’s very comfortable and unlike a lot of places the owner has really thought about the extras, so many places just use left over pots and cutlery but Thistle Dhu has good quality equipment. The owner also left a lovely welcome pack. The village has what you need close and it’s a great base for lots of walks. Would highly recommend.

Loved our stay at Thistle Dhu.

This was the most well-equipped, comfortable, clean and peaceful holiday cottage we have rented so far. Every detail has been thought through to ensure an enjoyable stay. Set in the stunning scenery of the Cairngorm National Park, it’s a superb base for all the local activities.

Very clean and well appointed, extensive range of cooking utilities, owners are very friendly and helpful, ideal holiday home for families .

Thistle Dhu is a fabulous cottage - everything was perfect, it was spotlessly clean, well equipped (the best we have ever seen) and the cottage owner left a beautiful hamper for our arrival.

It was absolutely perfect, and I can’t recommend highly enough. A heartfelt thank you from us all, and we’ll definitely be rebooking again soon.

Patsy was really friendly and helpful, and we would love to stay again. The only thing not perfect was that the Sykes description doesn't make it clear that the enclosed garden is shared with the owners. This wasn't an issue for us but could have been if we had younger children with us.

The house was very well furnished and laid out.

The inclusion of a double bedroom downstairs next to one of the bathrooms was ideal for one of our elderly family members. The large collection of DVDs was a nice option to keep the children occupied although not required as they spent most of the time "hunting wildcats" throughout Newtonmore, likewise with collection of books for the adults. Plenty of car parking space. A lovely welcome basket for us when we arrived, which was a nice surprise. Last time we visited Newtonmore we rented a smaller property as there were only six of us, however, if we were to visit again with a smaller number of guests Thistle Dhu would probably be the preferred option as there is a definite comfort factor staying there. Patsy and Gregor couldn't have provided a better stay for us. 5 stars from all of us.

Extremely well provided for in all aspects.

Beautiful accommodation, extremely clean and they’ve thought of everything. Situated is a very pretty location, the house is within easy access of the village, Co-op, golf course and pub. Couldn’t have been better.

Everything was provided you could possibly need and more.

The house felt welcoming and homely. It wasn't far from main street and shops and restaurant and shops and restuarants we're only minutes to walk to. Only met owner once as away at time but very friendly and phone call to arranged key pick up lots of use fully advice given. All in party couldn't fault accommodation.

My husband, children and their spouses spent a wonderful week at Thistle Du.

I can't say enough good things about this exceptional home in Newtonmore. Thistle Du was well equipped for 8 people, in fact, this is the only holiday home that I have rented were they provided more than enough dishes so that we didn't have to run the dishwasher half full just to have clean dishes. I loved all the little touches in the home like a lovely welcome pack, lots of folders with instruction manuals, house information and local menus plus a whole bookcase of books on the area, movies and games. In the bedrooms were extra blankets and hair dryers. Oh, and we loved having two french presses so we could make two different coffees each morning. The location was perfect for us as Newtonmore is close to a lot of local activities - Leault Sheepdog demonstrations, Wildcat trail, several munros, The Highland Folk Museum, Dalwhinnie Distillery, Ardvirikie Estate - plus had enough restaurants and pubs for 7 evening dinners without having to repeat. The owners of Thistle Du couldn't have been nicer and were very responsive to any communication. Thanks for the hospitality!

A truly amazing place to stay.

Absolutely everything you could need is provided.....even down to the 8 umbrellas and cupboard full of games and DVDs. Each bedroom is as comfortable as the others, so nobody in the party gets "the worst room." Patsy and Gregor are friendly and nearby should you need anything....I doubt you will. To cap it all milk, bread, tea, coffee are provided for when you arrive, as is a welcome pack, but that's a secret!

Great holiday location

House was great in every way, from comfort through to being well equipped with everything you need.

There was also lots of things to do in Newtonmore eg. Wildcat trail, plenty of walks and a great day out at the Highland Folk Museum. Would definitely recommend this house and location for a holiday.

A wonderful situated cottage in Newtonmore with nice owners, never seen such a cosy and well equipped cottage in my past journeys and there were already some good ones.

Spacey, comfortable, unbelieveable good equipped. A+++. And Newtonmore is a good base for travels to the Cairngorms, also to have some medium walks around. A surprising Highland park in 6 miles with polar bears (also a young one), tigers, red panda and many more what you don't believe to find in the Highlands. Also a short visit to Dalwhinnie distillery is a good choice but many more also. Nice little village with all facilities you need and at least a very good restaurant. (The Letterbox). For all which do need some space in a beautiful luxury cottage this is the first choice.

Having rented cottages for many years now Thistle Dhu is by far the best (though it is much more modern than previous rentals).

Well, and thoughtfully, laid out. The kitchen was great to use - plenty of room for a number of people to contribute to cooking without getting in each others way. More than enough crockery, cutlery, utensils, etc. (all matching as well) - too many cottages are spoilt by insufficient items, usually ill matched 'cast-offs'. First rate.

Excellent sized rooms. Extremely comfortable beds. Lovely bathrooms. Cosy and comfortable with all possible needs thought about and covered. The local area has beautiful walks/ runs with stunning scenery. Would go back in a heartbeat

Patsy and Gregor make their guests feel so welcome from the moment you arrive to the time you leave and should be complimented on achieving this.

This property for most people would be more than the "home from home" experience as it has a lot more to offer. Superbly centrally situated to reach the sites that Scotland's West Coast has to offer I and my family would love to repeat our time in Thistle Dhu and hope we might be able to next year.

Great cottage, very comfortable, lots of facilities, excellent base for touring the Cairngorms, and the golf club just 50 yards away!
