Description

Carbost 4.2 miles. With breath-taking views of the bay and offshore islands, Saltwinds is the perfect family getaway for those with a taste for exploring the village of Carbost and the surrounding beauty of the island of Skye.

Upon arrival, you will note the beautiful scenery of the area as you unpack with ease at the property’s generous off-road parking space.

Once inside, you will be surprised to find that there are three different sitting rooms available, with one sporting double doors to the patio and flashes of eye-catching red décor, one featuring a woodburning stove to make you feel right at home and a smaller room with a TV for a more intimate setting.

A spacious kitchen with black tiled flooring and stylishly chosen furniture offers a generous space to create the perfect evening meal, and you can serve your masterpiece in the dining room where there is a large central wooden table and seating for eight guests.

On the practical side, a well-equipped utility room is to hand and Saltwinds also has a dedicated drying room with heating, clothes airer, storage of wet gear etc.

Each bedroom has its own bathroom, two en-suite and the other two just across a landing, allowing everyone their private bathroom spaces. An additional cloakroom near the public rooms is yet another thoughtful addition.

A selection of bedrooms offer a homely place to relax, including a king-size, a second king-size, and a ground-floor and first-floor twin.

Outside you will find a garden with wide-open views of coast and hill and the opportunity to sit and relax, if you wish with a barbecue and perhaps sunset over the sea and islands.

Situated in Skye, there is no shortage of activities to keep you busy, and the local area is the best place to start, with a convenience store, pub, the Oyster Shed seafood market, cafes and an art gallery, and the option for boat tours to see for yourself just how spectacular both the coastline and the wildlife is.

If you are looking for a taste of the local produce and history, head over to Talisker Distillery, where you will be able to sample tasters and take part in a tour of the process of creating whisky.

Throughout Skye, there is a huge number of beautiful and historical places to visit, one of the most popular and nearest being the Fairy Pools, only 9.5 miles from the property, boasting beautiful clear freshwater pools where you can picnic, walk and swim.

Saltwinds is a great place and we had a wonderful week.

The house itself is just as described on the website. It's luxurious and has wonderful views. Everything works. It's in a lovely corner of the Isle of Skye, within easy reach of the village of Carbost and the excellent Old Inn there. We went walking in the Cuillins and canoeing near Dunvegan, seeing seals. We visited Portree and the Skye Museum of Island Life on the Trotternish Peninsula. We also did loads of walks near the coast and visited Dunvegan Castle and the Dun Beag Broch near Struan. Many thanks for a great week.

We had a great time at Saltwinds.

The listing is very accurate. Even when looking closely (being German we do), only two things come to mind: the TV room actually is a walk-through room which was not a problem given the ample space for all. Also it is worth mentioning that there is only one actual shower in the house. The other three facilities are bath tubs where you have to hold the shower head yourself which can also cause quite a mess if you are not careful. I guess this is mostly a matter of taste. Anyway, we had a great time visiting the distillery and discovering Skye's nature (bring Smidge spray!). The property fulfills the many promises the listing makes. We felt very comfortable. I guess the most important part of this review is: Would we come back here? Definitely yes!

A great holiday home and a good find on the Sykes app.

The house was warm and welcoming, and we loved the Aga. A bonus was seeing an Otter climb over the garden wall last Sunday morning. A great week was had by all.
