Askival

This was our second stay in Askival, the perfect property in a wonderful location.

. The sea views from this lovely house are magnificent, with the balcony amd also the back garden providing the perfect spots to enjoy a wee dram or two as the sun is setting. Inside, Askival is beautifully appointed, immaculate throughout and extremely spacious, with quality furnishings, a great deal of character and more than enough space to accommodate our party of six. Our host, Izabelle, was always extremely responsive, friendly and even took the time to phone on our arrival to check everything was in order. We would highly recommend this 5-star property and would love to return.

From this base, we were able to visit destinations throughout Skye.

Really lovely stay and the house is much bigger than it looks.

Plenty of space for the 6 of us and the house had everything we needed. The kids particularly enjoyed the modern tech to keep them entertained on the soggy days. Weather was not great but on the brighter days we loved the views which were breathtaking and the fire pit. As we had a few bad days we used the log burner in the day and went quite quickly through the wood. We paid for the use of more and could have done with some more kindling and an axe to chop large blocks. Think all firewood should be included considering it can be more overcast in Skye. Just to note that the owner of Elgol Bistro towards the end of the holiday told us about the 3 benches through the gate to the neighbours. Thought they were not Askivals, if known before would have sat there more often. Maybe worth putting in welcome pack. The above are pretty minor points. The house was really lovely and beautifully furnished/ decorated.

Askival at Elgol never fails to be the best property and best holiday we have stayed in.

It is spacious, cosy and very well equipped for all our needs. This is our 6th year here and it feels like a home from home. The views across to the islands are beautiful and Elgol have some nice walks over the cliffs and around the pretty harbour.

Askival is the most beautiful holiday accommodation- best we’ve ever stayed in!

Comfy beds, excellent showers, well equipped kitchen. Warm and cosy property - added bonus of having the log burner on cold evenings. Not to mention the fantastic views - could sit and look out all day long. The property is a good 35 minute drive from Broadford - we loved being in the middle of nowhere but can understand this might not be for everyone. Unfortunately, most places close down for winter by the end of October so something else to be mindful of. Would recommend Gasta pizza cafe, Lean To Coffee and also Skye Pantry for excellent coffee and cakes (all in Broadford). We will definitely be back!!

Askival was fantastic.

Wonderful house with accompanying view. Even just stayed in the house for a day of our stay, stunning views over to the island of Rum, with a wee dram in hand! Don't be put off by the half hour drive from Broadford to Elgol on the single track road. It's easily drivable, there are numerous passing points at frequent intervals. There were camper vans coming in the opposite direction, we had no problem at all passing by.

The house is clean and has everything you need for your stay. The view is amazing.

Lovely property in stunning location, weather was a bit unkind but that is Scotland!

Some beds a bit tired and uncomfortable, dining room chairs need to be replaced or fixed, lots of black flakes on the floor from them, which gave us concerns that our toddler may have eaten them. Maybe a bit more freezer space would be nice, as quite limited. Sofas in lounge on the edge of tired. No welcome pack even though mentioned in instructions

Amazing house!

We all loved Askival from the moment we walked in through the front door. The rooms were all big and the kitchen was well-equipped with everything we needed. The beds were really comfortable and the showers nice and warm. The view from the kitchen window changes by the second and I could spend many hours looking out to Rum, Eigg and the other islands. I highly recommend this property.

Lovely house in Elgol.

Beautiful views. Great location for some peace and quiet. Great bedrooms and ensuites, well stocked kitchen with pans, bowls, glasses, cutlery etc. Comfy lounge, a warm house with lots of hot water. Highly recommend. Welcoming village. Boat trips from the village, cafe open in the community hall. Hilly area so prepare to work those leg muscles.

Had a wonderful time, the views were fantastic.

Had lovely weather and spent lots of time on the patio admiring them. The place had everything we needed, well kitted out and very comfortable. Would visit more regularly if we were closer, fantastic place. The only compromise was the14 mile journey on and off Elgol. But even that became less daunting once you had travelled on and off a couple of times. Had a really lovely, memorable holiday.

We had a lovely stay at Askival.

The house is in a stunning location with amazing views. The facilities were great and everything had been thought of. The firepit at the top of the garden was a lovely bonus and we enjoyed several fires looking over the sunsetting behind the Cullins. The owners were really accommodating when we asked if two additional people could join us for a couple of nights. The welcome phone call on our first night was a lovely touch. All in all, a fabulous holiday with great memories. We would, in all honesty, not hesitate to come back or return to Askival. Absolute 5 stars.

Stunning house!

Very clean and well maintained. Loved all the pictures, books and maps of Skye. Amazing views. Was very nice to receive a call from the owner to make sure everything was okay. Would highly recommend! Was sad to leave, missing my favourite spot in the kitchen.

The kitchen was superbly equipped with everything you could possibly need. The house was beautifully presented and as it was Christmas a tree was displayed in the living room with a few garlands. Sadly the views were not the best purely because of the weather but its position and location was fabulous. My only complaint was the house was cold when we arrived in a storm late at night. How welcoming this would have been had it been warm and cosy. It’s a big house, with only the log fire for initial heat which seemed inadequate…the heating is set for different times of the day, for wintertime it was not enough we believe. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Askival is a fabulous house.

It’s actually much bigger than you think, the bedrooms are a great size with loads of storage. The showers were lovely, nice and warm, with good pressure. Everywhere was exceptionally clean and the kitchen was really well equipped, had everything you could need. We were slightly worried that we wouldn’t have mobile phone signal, but we had no problems at all, good signal all week! (We’re on vodafone). It was amazing waking up to that view every day, the local animals kept us entertained. We watched a kestrel hunting regularly and there was a particularly cheeky sheep who has worked out how to get across the cattle grid into the garden, he was fun! We even had a herd of deer one day. All in all a fantastic stay in stunning surroundings. Highly recommend, thank you so much.

Wow!

What a wonderful house with splendid views. House was spotlessly clean and had everything you needed. Even saw Cunard QM2 pass by on evening! Would love to return.

This cottage is gorgeous you couldn’t ask for more,it is well equipped with all the things you need and more to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

The owners give you a courtesy call to check your all ok which we’ve never had before,with any of our holidays. The house was clean,and ready for us to start our holiday.

Great for the kids and my elderly mum (although there are some steps up to the main door). Beautiful views and starry skies. So much to do. Driving on Skye is a challenge so come prepared!

Such a beautiful house everything was there for us to have a wonderful holiday .

The views were to die for and we never got bored of looking out the windows.At night the sky was even better to look at,we had lovely sunny days and clear nights so plenty of stars.Would definitely recommend.

Our fourth visit to Askival and we still love it as much, if not more.

A very spacious and very well equipped and comfortable property in a stunning location. We go in Jan/Feb where we can watch the winter weather and sky change every few minutes while cosy inside. It is a great base for touring all the other peninsulas of the island as well as enjoying some great walking.

If there is ever a place if Eutopia for stressed city people to find, it would be 'Askival'.

We were spoilt by this beautiful property, and the weather was a magnificent 10/10 while we were there. The views? Down right amazing, and the fresh air was very restorative. It was lovely to get a welcoming phone call from the owner on arrival, and any queries I directed toward the housekeeper were met with prompt, friendly responses. My husband-- a chef by trade-- remarked how extensive the range of kitchen equipment there was. Shop at the nearby village of Broadford's CO-OP as you go up, it will save heaps if car space, and the store is a very large and well-equipped one. Also, the 15 mile journey between Broadford and the crofting community of Elgol is a long, windy and one roaded, and make a the journey feel much longer. If the house doesn't wow you, the views will. And if THEY don't, you have no business being there. Thank you for such an amazing stay.

Lovely house, beautiful location and nice neighbours.

The house had everything we needed. Comfortable beds and plenty of bathrooms. It is remote enough to feel like you are away from everything but Broadford which has all that you should need is 35 mins away. Beautiful views from the window and I'm sure the balcony is a lovely place to eat when it's the summer.

Lovely house in a great location for views.

The drive from Broadford is about 15 miles, however it feels more like 35 as it is single track and take great care of driving at night. Rain pools at front door so expect to get your feet wet if it rains. Floor in living room and hall creak a lot and therefore it is difficult to be quiet when moving about.

We loved the location and the privacy of the property,the views out the windows are stunning.

The new decking is a great improvement loved sitting out on it. had one night up on the hill with the fire pit which was good. Would recommend to anyone. Thank you Sandra

Lots of room, comfortable and warm. We loved it.

Askival is a beautiful, comfortable property with breathtaking views and was perfect for our needs, with 3 generations enjoying the space.

Both the owner and Ailsa the housekeeper were very attentive to our needs and the house was immaculate. We couldn’t have picked a better place to celebrate our Daughter’s wedding, it was a truly magical time and we will be back!

Excellent property again.

Large and spacious with great views to Elgol. Very well equipped kitchen for the cooks. Bring lots of supplies with you, as it is 15 miles to the nearest shops. Great place to chill and watch the weather change or use it as a base to tour all the various stunning corners of Skye.

Beautiful location, excellent house.

Thank you. Outside tap rould be useful for rinsing watersports kit. Great to have the wee shop at Elgol for all your essentials. We did not need to leave the peninsula.

The only downside was that my husband and I never did manage to get on the WiFi but it didn't really interfere with our holiday.

We were told before arriving that the on suite shower was leaking and the repairs were done with minimal impact and handled by the lovely lady caretaker. As for the shower, well we just used one of the other 3! Fabulous house with an amazing view. Would highly recommend - but a top for future people - do your food shop before you leave Broadford!

Askival is an excellent property.

A lovely house set in a truly stunning location. Lovely living areas and bedrooms. The new balcony is a great addition offering an opportunity to sit out on warmer days. And the fire pit at the top of the garden is a revelation offering wonderful views! The owners are really helpful and approachable. We will be back!

Askival is a fabulous house with wonderful views of an ever changing sky, sea and islands.

It is spotlessly clean, very comfortable and extremely well equipped. I would highly recommend a holiday here. Just a little note to add that unless you have a four wheel drive you are unlikely to be able to park near the front door so have to use the stairs to carry luggage etc up to the house. However, don’t let that put you off as everything else is perfect.

We had a wonderful time at Askival - it's a perfect place for a holiday with both a mix of relaxed and active times.

It's a wonderful experience to be relaxing in the lounge watching the sun set over the islands.The kitchen is a great feature of the accomodation - it's well equipped and has everything that you need for home cooking. On the active side, there are a number of great walks nearby and the harbour is a great spot for starting watersports like SUP. We appreciated the location being a little off the beaten path and never found the drive to be an inconvenience. Would reccomend this property to anyone looking to stay on Skye

A beautiful house in a glorious location.

The cottage is very remote and to get anywhere you have to drive 15 miles along a single track road, often navigating the local Highland cows - but it was well worth the drive. There are beautiful walks locally and further afield but read the instructions well as some are not for the faint hearted or anyone who struggles with heights - but the higher you go the better the view! The cottage is very noisy when the winds are high so might be worth taking earplugs if you are light sleepers. The cottage is perfect, very thoughtfully and tastefully set out with a very well equipped kitchen, huge TV and adequate WiFi- we managed to watch bbc iplayer without buffering when the weather was dreadful. All in all we had a fantastic week at Askival and would love to return one day.

It is a unique house with a stunning view set in a remote location.

A lovely layout to the property with views from most rooms. Facilities provided were all to a high standard and everywhere was very clean. We will be going back! Loved it.

We arrived at the house on a wild rainy night and it instantly felt like a home from home.

The house is larger than expected, well equipped and extremely clean, which is very reassuring given the current pandemic situation. The wood burner was lovely with the added bonus of a complimentary basket of logs! The kitchen had everything you would ever need, and the cottage had lovely touches including maps, books and guides for the local area. The internet worked perfectly (those with tech wise kids will understand the need!!). The Smart TV was great and streamed iPlayer and Netflix with no problem. The following morning the sun came out and the house filled with light, the views are spectacular, with the large panoramic windows making it a fabulous place to sit. The MistyIsle boat trip to Loch Coruisk was fantastic, we saw minke whales and seals, the children loved the whole experience. The local shop was great but it’s worth stocking up at the Co-op in Broadford on your way through. We walked to Bonnie Prince Charlie’s cave which wasn’t far and easily manageable for the kids. They also loved playing on the beach near the harbour, a short walk from the house. The beds were really comfortable and bathrooms modern with plenty of hot water. We would thoroughly recommend staying here and would come back in a heart beat! Sykes were amazing as always, we are continually impressed with the professionalism and service they offer.

The accommodation was lovely, clean and had everything you would wish for in a holiday home.

The views were fantastic and it was a short walk to the bay where the views were breathtakingly beautiful. The walks were outstanding. The road to Elgol was 15 miles of single track with loads of passing places with sheep at the sides, it was like going back in time. We were unable to access the information on the villa whilst there as we were unable to get WiFi. I did send a text from the top of the garden but did not miss the phone after a while. I would recommend Askival for a holiday it is gorgeous.

The cottage exceeded expectations and was extremely comfortable and cosy.

It is very well equipped, especially in the large kitchen. The weather wasn’t very kind to us but we loved just watching the changing weather and light through the picture windows while keeping warm. A fantastic break and would highly recommend Askival. Do go down to the small harbour to get great views of the Cullins and the local seabirds.

Askival is perfectly placed, overlooking the southern side of the Isle of Skye in Elgol.

A beautiful property with just about every facility you could wish to find in a holiday home. Immaculately clean, spacious and comfortable inside with a 360 degree look of your surroundings from the chairs at the top of the garden. If you are lucky enough ( as we were ) you may find reindeer and other wildlife around the property. The owner was very helpful and warm natured. Couldn't fault it. Will be back for sure.

This cottage is beautiful, spacious and well equipped.

I have been taking cottage holidays for years, with Sykes and this is one of the top cottages I have stayed in. You won't beat the view either.

The views from the property and view point behind the house are stunning.

Surrounding area is full of great views and wildlife. The drive from Broadford to the property is a nature trail in its own right for those who take the time. This is a great property to use as a base for exploring Skye.

Beautiful isolation!

Elgol is a fantastic place with amazing views and surprising wildlife. The weather (as you might expect) can change from minute to minute and usually comes with a healthy breeze. I travelled to Askival with a mixed party of eight. We had teenagers, young people and parents. The house itself is just perfect. Spacious, modern, warm and brilliantly equipped. It's decorated beautifully and has lovely features. The owners have a great eye for style and its a fantastic place to stay. I can't think of anything that could be improved and we all loved it from the moment we arrived. Excellent value for money and even better than it looks in the pictures. Elgol is the quieter part of the island and if you want hustle and bustle this is NOT the place for you. The best words to describe the area are wild and remote but also spectacular and amazing. It takes around half an hour to drive from the last real 'town' area down a one car wide road to get to Askival but it's always an eventful journey peppered with sheep, highland cattle and (if you are lucky - and you probably will be) even the odd stag! If you love the outdoors and want a base for great walks; boat trips to even more remote islands; Lochs; access to mountains and peaceful isolation this is the place to go.

Great house on the top of the hill above Elgol harbour with a direct view of the isle of Rum.

House is comfortable, spacious and very well equiped. Perfect for walking and boat trips in good weather. Ideal for families and walkers. Elgol is in a remote location teeming with wildlife, a very quite and peacful location with exceptional views from the harbour and numerous paths.

It was a fantastic week away the house was beyond brilliant great location, very clean, comfortable and welcoming.

We loved the addition of the fire pit and benches up the back of the garden for watching the sun set.

We had sunshine and temperatures near 20C in April!

This house is so well equipped we were able to have a great dinner party with all our family who were staying nearby - including a firepit bonfire with incredible sunset views of the Cuillins and the islands to end an amazing night.

Booking might well have been compromised if the owner and I had been unable to come to an agreement over our dogs.

Thankfully resolved. I had previously visited Askival and its former owners, but had never stayed, but was aware of its location so when viewed on 'Sykes' website knew it was a great property and all our party of seven required was some good weather! The house is in a prime situation overlooking Elgol bay, Ardnamurchan, the 'Small Isles' to the south and west with the Cuillen Ridge to the North, and from the top of the garden completing the 360' to Glenelg and Kintail. A truly stunning location! Askival easily accommodated our party of seven guests with a well laid out interior with accompanying en Suite for the 3 main bedrooms and a separate bathroom and shower for an upstairs lounge with pull out bed. The whole property was furnished to a very high standard throughout and pristinely clean, with the added bonus of a 'deck' accessible from the panorama lounge and exterior. The owners have provided blown up photographs of the surrounding views and popular places in Skye and these add a modern ambience to the property. During our week we were blessed with the very best of West Coast weather and we're able to enjoy Skye, its environs and the islands at their very best. We all found it difficult to drag ourselves away from Askival at the end of our lovely week. No doubt we shall return!
