This was our second stay at half of 6, we enjoy the peace and tranquility, the views, the bird life in the garden.

Staying in this area you feel central to everything, we could get to anywhere around the island quite easily. We just love it.

Second time staying here.

Such a lovely cottage right near the sea. The owner is really friendly and communicates well. We’ll be back.

Genauso wie wir uns es vorgestellt und gewünscht haben, ist das Cottage klein, einfach und gemütlich eingerichtet und sehr ruhig gelegen, mit Besuch von Schafen im Garten :-) Es sollte bei einem Aufenthalt jedoch wärmer sein.

Bei dem kühlen Wetter war es im Haus auch recht kühl und es wurde mit der Heizung und dem offenen Kamin vermutlich wegen der fehlenden Tür zum Eingangsraum kaum richtig gemütlich warm.

A beautiful, clean and comfortable traditional cottage in a stunning & peaceful location.

Half of 6 is a very special place. The views from the garden are wonderful & the location is good for exploring Skye. The cottage is accessed by a bumpy, narrow track, which may not be for everyone! The accommodation is well thought out, with everything you need, well equipped kitchen & plenty of books & games to while away the evenings. The lounge area is open to the staircase to allow extra light from the skylight, which did allow a draught, but there is a real fire to make it warm & cosy. We really enjoyed our stay here.

When we arrived it was nice and warm what made us feel very welcome. We enjoyed every bit of Isle Of Skye. The house had beautiful views. The garden was nice to sit in when coming back from hiking. I can highly recommand this to everyone. Kind regards Nancy and Wendy.

This cottage in a breathtaking location which lead to a very memorable break on Skye.

While cosy, it has everything you need and is very practically laid out with great facilities. Kitchen is very well equipped and we were missing nothing we needed to cook great meals. We had a small mishap with the house keys and our contact Caroline was incredible helpful sending someone to our rescue at a moments notice. Highly reccomended.

Despite being in the middle of nowhere and up a private road and the snow, we had an amazing 10 days.

Lots of lovely walks on your doorstep and we explore Raasay as foot passengers on the ferry. Thank you ☺️

The cottage has great character, and is well equipped, and clean.

The weather in December was not so good so the open fire and multi-fuel stove were welcome supplements to the storage heaters. The book shelves are full with a really interesting selection - which was great in the bad weather! The lane seemed daunting at first but we quickly got used to it. The owner was very responsive and helpful. A lovely area too.

Just back from a wonderful autumnal and wet week at Half of 6.

The setting of the cottage was out of this world and we loved retreating back to the warm shelter at the end of a long day of exploring. Each room is thoughtfully and beautifully decorated and the cottage was equipped with everything we could ever need for the week - the pantry of essentials (dishwasher tabs, tea, oil etc.) was very helpful too. Great location for Portree and so many of the sights. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

We had a wonderful week in this lovely cottage.

The house is warm, welcoming and charmingly furnished and we felt immediately at home. The kitchen is well equipped and the comfortable sitting room was lovely to come back to each day with its open fire and good choice of books/ board games. Lovely views all around the dog-friendly garden. We both look forward to returning as soon as we can. Thank you so much for opening your lovely cottage to lucky guests!

half of six is a lovlely little cottage in a beautiful location with stunning views an absolute get away from the modern world i would highly recommend it the only thing i would tell other guests is be prepared there is no freezer and the shops are miles away once you get your head around it no problem at all we would stay at half of six again in a heart beat .

Such a lovely cottage in a beautiful remote spot, in a wonderful part of Skye.

It had everything we needed, was warm and comfortable and decorated/furnished beautifully. The garden was amazing and the views from the top of the hill blew us away. There was plentiful wood/kindling, but we didn't need to light a fire as the weather was fabulous! There were books everywhere, which as readers we loved and some lovely art too. Thank you. a lovely place to relax and re-discover the Isle.

This is the second year running that I've stayed at 1/2 of six.

The position is fantastic,a short walk from the bay. Very quiet,and only a short drive to Portree. The cottage itself is warm and cosy. Great to unwind. Hopefully I'll be back next year.

A gorgeous cottage in a beautiful setting.

It is so cosy and has everything you need. The kitchen is well stocked and theres plenty of wood for the fire. The location is perfect for visiting the whole island. We loved everything about the cottage. Loads of recommendations and leaflets provided for things to do in the area. The water in the cottage is brown which is a bit off putting but it is safe to drink. It is a private water supply and has been tested.

Lovely cottage for a family of four.

It has all the charm of an old croft house, but with a warm shower and even a dish washer:-) The rooms are cozy, the views from the cottage out to the sea and neighbouring islands are great. The owner now has also put in a water treatment system, so you can disregard some of the older comments regarding the water supply. Highly recommended, we just slightly underestimated the drive out to Gedintailor (but then we underestimated all the distances on Skye)

We loved it so much. A lot of care was taken to have all the extra bits and bobs you need on a trip. We'll def be back. 20 minute walk to the sea; the road has been newly surfaced too so it's super smooth. Thanks so much for making it a memorable holiday.

A wonderful rural retreat in glorious Skye !

A lovely remote cottage with fabulous views.

Dog friendly and super garden area. The cottage itself was very comfortable, very quirky in places which is not a complaint, but might cause issues with people bending and moving in tighter spaces. The road to the cottage was approx 6 miles of single track with passing places, which wasn’t a problem for us but could be for some. The owner contacted us by email with instructions and was very friendly.

Absolutely wonderful stay, highly recommend Half of 6 for a stay on the wonderful Isle of Skye.

All instructions and communications were clear and easy to follow and the owner and housekeeper were super responsive and helpful. Perfect setting for exploring all of the offerings of the island in a comfortable and welcoming village that's just 15 mins to Portree for supplies and the gateway to everything you'd want to see on the island. Also perfect location for hiding away from it all, The Braes has the views and tranquility to truly relax.

Excellent little cottage that withstood Storm Ashley's 60mph winds without issue!

Half of 6 is a warm, comfortable and cozy little place with well thought-out interior despite the age of the building. Private Water supply is very peaty (brown water), best to stick to bottled water for drinking and cooking as even a LifeSaver Cube struggled with filtering the peat. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will 100% be returning to the Isle!

Cottage was charming and welcoming but had functional issues which were not disclosed prior to our stay.

There was no drinkable water and water had an odor and color. Due to this, shower was unpleasant with very weak stream.

We loved our stay at Half of 6.

It was the perfect home base to see Skye, and it was comfortable, clean and cozy. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking. Would highly recommend!

Enjoyed our stay very much.

Cottage very well equipped and extremely comfortable. Only minor point lack of freezer compartment for freezing cool box blocks.. but didn't spoil our stay. Neighbour very helpful and friendly, advised us on finding sheep free walks for our dog. Thank you!

We had a lovely two weeks staying in this traditional Croft .

It is set in a wonderful quiet setting with a sea view from the super comfy bed .We had everything we needed in the kitchen so cooking was just like being at home . We loved the books and the old pictures on the walls .Skye is a magical place that calls you back time after time .I highly recommend this traditional cottage for a truly wonderful holiday .Thank you Mr Macdonald for letting us stay .

A wonderful gem in a (desirable) quiet location!

sic!: - lovely decorated - extensive equipment ...the fact, that the tap water is NOT drinking water (has to be boiled) is, in my opinion, a marginal restriction!

We had a beautiful holiday at this cottage - had planned to cut our stay shorter to visit some other parts of the west coast but it persuaded us to stay the full week - not long enough!

Cosy, comfortable, characterful, well-equipped - a lovely peaceful spot that feels remote but with good access to the whole island and views I enjoyed over coffee every morning. Couldn't recommend it more highly and so glad we found the place. We hope to be back!

We had an amazing big time in Skye, the cottage was perfect and it really gave us the opportunity to switch off, relax and enjoy ourselves.

I've been to Skye many times and I have to say, 1/2 of 6 cottage tops the lot for accommodation.

Location, cleanliness , comfort, amenities, garden were spot on. We were very fortunate with the weather and combining this with this wonderful cottage, made this a truly memorable week for us all, especially our working cocker spaniel Sam. Will definitely be back to 1/2 of 6.

Half of six is in a beautiful location with the gorgeous Braes Bay a short walk away.

My husband and sons enjoyed fishing off the peninsula. The views on the drive leading up to the cottage are stunning. It’s in a great location for exploring the Isle of Skye, just 15 minute drive from Portree where there are plenty shops and restaurants. I’d recommend booking restaurants especially at the weekend. The cottage itself was very cosy, with a well equipped kitchen and 2 open fires, we enjoyed lighting the fire in the lounge in the evenings. I would definitely recommend staying here. The welcome email and visitors book were also full of useful information.

We enjoyed our stay, the cottage was very cosy.

The description of the property was accurate, the access road is very steep! Our only issue was the sheep, we knew from the description that there were likely to be sheep in the adjoining fields. Not a problem, we farm ourselves and our dog is used to stock. However we had not expected there to be sheep in the garden itself, they were grazing where we were to park the car, we drove over the cattle grid into the property to be met by sheep! We went to shoo out the sheep to find that the cattle grid was partially full so the sheep could walk over it. I went to shut the gates to find that they were an ornament and could not be closed. The side gate to the inner garden was held by string, so we were worried all week that we'd open the door to a sheep. As the outside light didn't work I couldn't check after dark that there were no sheep before opening the door and going out with the dog last thing at night!

Really cozy cottage that was very well equipped.

We loved the location and it was very quiet and peaceful. Good base to tour the Island.

A cosy little house with enough room for a family of four.

Very calm and quite with a beautiful view towards Raasay and the mountains of Skye. It's not too far to Portree and a good starting point for tours on Skye. The cottage is clean and quite well equipped so you can really enjoy your stay. Very friendly contact to the owner who responses and helps very quickly. We'd love to come again.

We really enjoyed our stay at half of six.

The cottage is very nice and situated at a beautiful spot on Skye. The views are spectacular and the nearby beach is awesome. Our only recommendation would be to improve the cleaning between guest visits. We had to do a bit of cleaning ourselves to get comfortable in the house.

Very disappointed!

Felt it very overpriced. Skye is wonderful and for £979 we thought the cottage would be much better. Cottage well renovated and comfortably furnished but somehow lacking. Garden very small. Drive very rough. Views lovely but not as described. Kitchen poorly equipped. Shower alright for very short people! Cottage not as clean as I would have liked. Very sad as probably our late visit to Skye because of my husband’s health problems. A poor advertisement for Skye. Suzy from Somerset

Absolutely loved this cottage.

The peace and quiet was wonderful, the only sound being a few birds and it was also very secluded which we loved. The cottage was cosy and warm. Loved the fact that there was an electric blanket on the bed, very thoughtful. Also the essentials were a nice touch. The WiFi was very good which was handy for looking up the weather etc.

i simply could live here all year long !

Absolutely perfect! Views outstanding, quiet and really well kept cottage!

We are so glad we picked Half of Six to stay on in Skye.

The cottage itself is not the height of luxury, but is perfectly equipped and so homely. We loved staying there, felt very at home, and had everything we needed. The location is amazing. Yes you have to drive a little further down a single track lane to get home every evening, but it is so worth it for the feeling of isolation and the stunning wildlife on offer, as well as a beautiful isolated beach being (almost) on your doorstep. Perfect for a late night beer in the Midnight sun. Would definitely return given the opportunity.

Absolutely gorgeous cottage.

So comfortable & cozy. The location was amazing, on top of a hill with stunning views. Really close to Braes beach, and about 15 min drive to Portree for shops & restaurants. The water pressure from the taps & shower wasn’t great, but a small price to pay for such a lovely place. It has everything you need, washing machine, dishwasher, all cooking & cleaning equipment supplied. Perfect place to come back to every night, after a day of adventuring, light up the fire & have a glass of wine or a local Tallisker whisky. A steep track up to the cottage, you can walk it but is quite difficult, especially if you have any walking difficulties or young kids, you really need a car if staying here. The kids loved the freedom of playing outside the cottage, and seeing the sheep in the garden in the mornings! I would highly recommend staying at Half of six, a wee piece of heaven on the most beautiful island.

Lovely cottage, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Great position to explore from and great to come back too for relaxation and tranquility. Wildlife in abundance, beautiful walks from the door, beach a short stroll away. Had a lovely holiday.

The cottage is in a wonderful location and had everything we needed.

BUT ...... The main issue is that it had clearly not been checked properly before we arrived to ensure everything was in order. Several appliances were not working - one convection heater, electric blanket in single bed and one side on the double bed. Main light in double bedroom. We were also unhappy with the cleanliness. We found pans and dishes that had been put away uncleaned, window cills inside had numerous cobwebs and dead midges/flies. Considering that extra cleaning should be ensured due to the Covid 19 pandemic, it was not apparent. As regards contacting anyone to express our concerns we had little or no internet and phone connection and in any case, all these things should have been in order when we arrived. It shouldn't be our responsibility when on holiday to follow up on maintenance and cleaning that should have been satisfactory when we arrived.

The location, grounds, and cottage itself were all so special.

The place was clearly lovingly renovated, but kept a traditional feel. It was cozy and comfortable. The views from every window were stunning and the beach—which I think isn’t highlighted in the listing—is one of the best on Skye. So sandy! The location felt remote and tucked away, but was actually quite central and good base for exploring the whole island. We’re already planning a trip back and I can’t imagine staying anywhere else on Skye now.

Half of 6 was a beautifully cosy cottage in a splendid mountain location.

It provided the perfect base for exploring all of the Isle, especially the Old Man of Storr and Portree harbour for boat trips to see white-tailed eagles. Would definitely recommend it.

I so loved this cottage.

Remote ... just what I wanted. A little wild on the outside, very comfortable inside. A long steep track up to cottage, but dont worry ... you'll get used to it!!

There could be more information about the water supply and its pressure, as the peaty coloured baths the children found very unusual.

The drive way to the property is very steep as mentioned but there are some large pot holes that may damage tyres appearing. The kitchen was very well equipped and we enjoyed lots of fresh local produce. The views were amazing with the daily changing light. We managed to spot a sea eagle from the porch. Beautiful peaceful retreat.

Great selection of books to read. Wife , daughter and son in law all enjoyed it. A great day out is to take ferry from Sconser to Raasay.

Charming secluded cottage, tastefully furnished in beautiful location.

Das Haus ist sehr gemütlich und in sehr guter Lage.

Auch die Zufahrt ist kein Problem. Wir haben das Haus gleich beim ersten Anlauf gefunden. Sehr gemütlich ist der Kamin im Wohnbereich. Die Ausstattung war zufriedenstellend. Da wir ziemlich spät im Jahr dort waren, bei Außentemperaturen von 0 - 10 Grad, ist die installierte E - Heizung völlig unzureichend, speziell im Bad! Nach 3Tagen funktionierte auch die automatische Warmwasserbereitung nicht mehr und trotz hinterlassen einer Nachricht an die Betreuerin des Hauses wurde dieser Mangel nicht behoben. Der DVD Player funktionierte ebenfalls nicht.

We stay four days in skye island, thé half of 6 cottage is a very pleasant place to stay.

Confortable, quiet, cosy, and the place is amazing.

The cottage was very comfortable, we felt completely comfortable there.

The kitchen is well equipped and there are countless hiking and excursion tips for the guests. Highly Recommended!

A really cute and cosy cottage.

Don’t expect WiFi, easy roads or modernity here. But it’s what makes the charm of this secluded retreat. The dog sleeping by a warm fire after an evening hiking around sky, friends gathered around the kitchen table playing games and drinking cider before tucking in a cosy bed admiring wonderful sunsets, wonderful views on Raasay as your take your morning stroll or enjoy your coffee in the garden. A fair warning that some people before us complained about : yes it a small cottage, with a really small tv and no WiFi. The road to the cottage could be hard to access in the winter. It’s rustic. But that’s also why we loved the place. It’s full of charm. Would go there again without a doubt. The only trouble we had weren’t with the place or the owner but with the people who rented it before who didn’t stack fire woods or replenish the tea, coffee, flour, etc. As was asked.

Instead of a washing line we provide a clothes drying rack that can be used inside (the unpredictable Skye weather means an indoor drying option - or one that can be put in a sheltered spot in the garden - is more practical.). There is also a washer /dryer in the kitchen. The only rule in the house is from the laundry asking guests not to wash their towels as colours sometimes run. Otherwise we try to give guests helpful information to ensure your stay is safe and comfortable in a house you may be unfamiliar with. If the cottage is booked for two people we always provide extra bedding in the spare room. We are sorry you did not find it - but we do provide the cottage manager's number in case of need. She is a neighbour and always willing to help.The track to the cottage is long and steep in places, but we do make this clear in the description of the cottage - and our neighbour has a mini! We care deeply about our guests and want to ensure they are as comfortable as possible. We hope you will return to Skye one day and give Half of Six another try.

This cottage was in great location just a few miles from Portree ,ideal for dogs with well fenced garden would go back any time.
