Thorsvik

Beautiful home in a beautiful location - feels so welcoming and cosy like staying in your family’s long loved family holiday home.

Very remote, very peaceful and stunning views.

A lovely, cosy, remote cottage with amazing views!

Just back from another great week at Thorsvik.

We feel very at home in this cosy, comfy house and love to see the ever changing view from the windows, particularly every morning and evening. The house is perfectly positioned for outstanding views and easy access to the shore. We enjoyed exploring the nearby villages too and found plenty of entertaining walks to do around the area. We loved hearing rutting deer, woodpeckers and owls as well as seeing lots of deer, interesting birds, dolphins and even a whale. It's great to gather round the table for dinner each night, watching the sun set and listen to everyone's tales of discovery. A great place to stay!

The location of this property is wonderful; if what you want, is to be tucked away from it all.

On a clear day, the views are some of the best we have experienced in a holiday let, truly breathtaking. We saw deer every day on the hills surrounding the house which was magical. The property itself could be so much better. It’s tired and run down. We found ourselves buying scented candles to dull the awful damp smell in the bedroom, a blanket to keep cosy in the living room (there were no logs on arrival) and the plumbing is problematic. Only one of the 3 toilets flushed properly - thankfully there was only the 2 of us. The bedding and towels were fresh and clean, but the house certainly wasn’t. The draws and cupboards in the kitchen were full of things to be used, but they were dirty. There was no welcome information / local leaflets / recommendations for us to look through until we searched through some draws to find some scattered about. It is disappointing, as I’m sure Thorsvik could be the perfect property with just a little more care and maintenance. It feels like the responsibility has been left to guests to make sure it’s kept well. And it hasn’t been. For the price, it was the only property we could find within our budget on such short notice, and now I understand why. If the damp and cleaning issues were fixed, I could see us returning. But it looks as if these issues have been previously mentioned years ago and nothing has changed - which is so sad.

Thorsvik is a well equipped cabin in a stunning location.

The views are simply out of this world and I spent hours on the balcony drink in hand, taking in the scenery and local wildlife. If you are looking for an idyllic place, well away from the masses of tourists elsewhere on the island, this is the place for you! It's kitchen is really well equipped and laid out. The beds are comfy and the rest of the furniture well looked after. We particularly appreciated the midge screens which allowed us to keep the windows open throughout our stay (when the sun is shining, it can get quite warm inside in the afternoons as the sun shines directly in). We appreciated the excellent communication with the owners about a couple of things that were out of their control.

We loved our stay at Thorsvik House.

The house itself is spacious and has everything you need. What made it for us were the views from the veranda/balcony. We have stayed in Scotland several times now, but the views from Thorsvik are by far the best we have ever seen. You have a superb view of Loch Eishort and if you are lucky you will see dolphins and Minke Whales; you also have a perfect view of the Cuillin Hills. We also saw deer around the area. The sunsets on a good summers days are spectacular. The property is rural and quite remote which is just what we wanted. The nearest shop is the Co-op in Broadford which is about a 35 minute drive. As usual in Scotland, the lanes are narrow reaching the property, but we loved this! A walk to the ruined castle in Tokavaig is really worth it. Access is very difficult, but the views from outside the castle are amazing. It's a place we would visit again. Thank you so much!

A superb location that is well off the beaten track with incredible views towards the Cuillin Mountains that are ever changing with the light and weather.

A homely property with everything that you may need during your stay. If peace and tranquility are your goal, then you will find them here.

Beautiful location with spacious accommodation and all the equipment you'd ever need.

This house is perfect for our holidays in Skye.

It feels like a second home - cosy, comfortable, spectacular views, a great location, plenty of space for all 6 of us and full of lots of interesting books and games. We love to go out all day exploring and come back to Thorsvik for a cosy meal together.

Very tired property with plenty maintenance issues especially the fact that it had 3 toilets and all the seats were either broken or loose, doors coming apart, couches broken and uncomfy, had to wipe down table in living room as had food on it also had to wash dishes/cutlery/glasses before using.

Think the owners are relying on the view to wow people so they forget about the rest of the house, very overpriced for what we got!

The cottage was top grade, couldn't have asked for more.

Strange things were happening all week but by the end of the week we realised we were not alone. Didn't bother us though. The settee's need to be changed. One thing I will say is that you need a 4x4 vehicle for the roads not a camper vehicle they are too big and no one can pass them

A fabulous 12 night stay oor at Thorsvik.

Such a unique location with the most stunning views. Sleat didn't disappoint on my 5th trip now to Skye. Sea eagles, deer & sheep in & around the garden every other day. I'll even miss the wee road in & opening the gate. All 5 of us were so at home. Would happily book again. Thank you, Karin x

Lovely, remote cottage.

Everything was beautiful. We enjoyed the stay very much.

Thorsvik is a spacious and well appointed Scandinavian style house with a fantastic view over Loch Eishort, Loch Slapin and the Cuillin Mountains (clouds permitting).

The house is comfortably furnished in Danish style, and has everything you need for a pleasant stay. Tokavaig is located on the north side of the Sleet peninsula, the nearest towns being Armadale and Broadford. Although this is a remote part of the island, it doesn't take long to drive up to Portree and the north of the island. You can expect visits from sheep and red deer during your stay, or watch a golden eagle soaring over the peninsula in it's hunt for food.

This is a property in a stunning location, the view over the sea loch to the Black Cuillins is just breathtaking.

The property has a 'vintage' feel but very clean and tidy, black out curtains would be useful for the very light mornings during the summer.

This is a beautiful house in an incredible location.

We loved everything about it. The house feels more like a home, with every detail thought about. The views of the Cullins are second to none.

The house was really well stocked, had everything we could need, and was in a fantastic location.

I would definitely book again.

We had the most incredible time at Thorsvik.

Few if any houses in Scotland are blessed with such an magnificent setting. The house is well stocked, warm and cosy and clearly was designed with a lot of love and care. It is such a relaxing space to inhabit, with the kitchen and living areas working so well together. If we could have done, we would have stayed for a month!

Not clean on arrival.

Not maintained well, areas of danger. Strong smell of damp in some areas. Lovely by needs TLC. Amazing position and views.

Thorsvik is in the most beautiful spot, very quiet with amazing views.

The property is very comfortable, with everything you could need in the way of amenities and very clean.

A great house with a breathtaking view.

We have been vacationing in Ord for 11 years and chose this house for the first time - and will certainly book it again. But then outside of the season. Three bedrooms and three bathrooms, an open kitchen to the dining room, and the aforementioned breathtaking view were very worth it. The house is very remote and you have complete peace and quiet to relax; The path there is a bit winding, but it's manageable; and wonderfully beautiful if you drive slowly and look around. The booking was uncomplicated and quick, unfortunately we had to rebook for personal reasons and were even contacted by phone to complete the process with a very nice employee. We were even expressly informed of the higher costs! Thank you very much for a really great service!

In the middle of nowhere!

Just like we wanten it. Beautifull house with all comfort. We liked our stay .

Liked the place.

Family members loved seeing wild deer and views of the Cuillin hills from the windows. Only thing that let the stay down was the lack of DVD player (listed in the property facilities summary) so a planned movie night couldn't happen.

Extremely well equipped and very comfortable house in a stunning, remote location with amazing views.

The scenery on Skye is stunning and there is so much to see and do, including wonderful walking. We loved our stay at Thorsvik and hope to be back in the future.

Fabulous accommodation

Very nice location with a fabulous view on Loch Eishort and the munros of Skye.

Facility needs proper cleaning and maintenance. Dirty watercooker, crockery & kitchenware, a clugged drain, spiderwebs on ceiling & lamps and dirty stains on bedlinen make this, beside a very noisy waterpump, a moderate stay. The housekeeper enters the cottage while we are gone for day trips. There is no service offered for electric vehicles (no permission for charging from wall socket)

Excellent stay couldn't fault anything and what a view will definitely be back.

Absolutely stunning place, I would seriously recommend everyone to visit this absolute gem of a place.

We really really enjoyed our stay here and would 100% go again. I can’t put into words how amazing it was so try it for yourselves

Never stayed in such perfect place.

The location was absolutely stunning and tranquil. The thoughtfulness as to what you might need was unbelievable, there was everything that you could possibly want!! And just so comfortable, a real home from home -10/10!!!!! Am really hoping that I'll go back one day, the sooner the better!

This is a lovely, homely house that is set up in a very practical way for visitors to come and go and enjoy eating together and relaxing in the living space.

It felt even better this time as all the removed books (due to Covid precautions) were back on the shelves. There are incredible views of the Cuillin ridge, the sea, passing wildlife and beautiful sunsets.

This is our second stay at Thorsvik and we couldn't recommend it more.

A perfect setting with amazing views and a great base for so many wonderful walks. The cottage is warm and cosy with everything you could need. The decor is a little dated but feels homely.

Oh my word!

The scenery is superb. Really comfy cottage. Everything you need for your stay is supplied. We really didn't want to leave. So peaceful, there's hardly a sound other than the birds. Just beautiful.

a fabulous place to stay with great views, inside the cottage is well maintained and with all the amenities you could possibly wish for.

It was a lovely property,so peaceful, lot's of wildlife around, seen an eagle every day, plus wide variety of birds, even seen seals and deer.

The views were amazing looking over to the old castle ruins, the drive to the property was a bit rough, but well worth it, would definitely come back.

Absolutely as described!

So peaceful and the view from the property is AMAZING!!! Everything was excellent, facilities, comfort, could not fault anything. Thank you Karin!

Thorsvik had everything we needed and was a beautiful holiday home in a spectacular setting.

To get away into a different landscape but in comfort you could not do better

A lovely secluded cottage, away from it all, with the most outstanding views!

Everything you need in the cottage, real comfort, with a home from home feel. A little confusing over the usage of the wood-burner but luckily we had the most glorious weather, being able to sit out on the verandah till very late at night watching the sun set amongst the mountains! Incredible!

Great place to stay.

Bit of a trek to the shops, but the view from the cottage overlooking the loch and the Coullins is well worth it.

Fantastic place to stay with beautiful views.

Well laid out property. We really enjoyed our week and hopefully we will return in the near future.

Thorsvig is set on a beautiful part of Skye and the views from the property towards the Cuillins and the village of Drinan are truly spectacular with every day giving a new perspective to photograph and enjoy.

The kitchen is very well equipped and the fridge is full size, as is the under cabinet freezer. The property is obviously very well used throughout the year and is popular but it does suffer from condensation and black mould around window frames, curtains, and blinds. This is not a question of heating so much as adequate ventilation to keep air moving. On entry to Thorsvig the predominant smell is a musty odour. Also the vents in bathrooms are clogged with dust/hair. The maintainer (Pete) cleared the dust from the fan heater in the 'king' bathroom for us, thank you! Generally the dust in the property proved an irritant to my Wife and was activated by the heating system. For this reason only we will not be returning to Thorsvig. With Covid in mind we noted that all books, CDs, ornaments etc had been removed but the visitors book remained! Presumably Covid restrictions also prevented any supplies being left (eg milk). After a difficult 11 hour drive up, including Glasgows COP26 traffic, we were glad we brought our own!! In high winds a knocking noise can be heard from the roof over the dining area suggesting a loose panel? We note bedding and quilts are dated and heavy. We have been coming to Skye every year for at least the last 24 years, even using the old chain ferry before the bridge was built and always staying in cottages. We can recommend Thorsvig as a great and quiet place to stay but do bring a strong torch (or two) and sufficient supplies as the nearest shops are some distance away by car.

This feedback is a little mixed but Thorsvik is a delightful property in an idyllic (magical !

) location but it IS remote which might be a shock for some visitors ! Skye is a big island and it can take a long time to get to some of the main tourist attractions .This was our second visit to the house and we would definitely return ! This is no show home , the interior is dated and could use a proper clean , tidy and spruce up but it is warm , well equipped and comfortable and the perfect place to relax and enjoy the delights of the island . The property suffers badly from condensation and drying clothes was problematic (the tumble dryer wasn't efficient , nor was the dehumidifier) The online property information is out of date (there is no dvd player, dvds or books) and the house could use a book with clear instructions of how to use appliances including the heating . Also can you or cant you use the log burner ?!?! The water pump located in the second bedroom is extremely loud restricting water use (toilets !) over night . The nearest (newly opened) shop is in Armadale and is brilliant ! Don't forget to bring wet weather gear but if you do forget , Amazon can deliver to Thorsvik in 24 hours to renters (as we found out !)

Located in a beautiful part of Skye, this comfortable and homely house is perfect for a holiday for people who either want to explore the surrounding area or further afield.

We were unsure whether the log burner could be used as some reviews mentioned doing so, but the site description said it was for show only.

We would have loved to have used it but we didn't. The kitchen was fantastic - really well equipped and a pleasure to work in. The views from the main living space were stunning in all weathers, and the location was wonderfully private and peaceful; not overlooked at all. We were a married couple so it was no problem staggering our showers and use of hot water but I imagine that a family or group of 4-6 might have found this more of a challenge, and the noise of the system would be quite a disturbance to the next door bedrooms if they were being slept in. However for us it was a perfect accommodation, and given the poor weather we were happy to have use of a very large and modern TV [Netflix, Amazon] and the high quality family-sized washing machine

Prices are now so high that normal families like us will soon be unable to afford to book with you anymore.

Your prices are so expensive now that I am having to look elsewhere for next year. It's turning the self catering holiday industry into something that only the rich can afford and is very disappointing. I have always holidayed in self catering cottages in the UK and this is the first year (2022) that I am struggling to find a suitable cottage that I can afford to book. Very upsetting.

A brilliant cottage located in a wonderful part of Skye, this was our second visit to this cottage and we are now considering booking for next year.

The wildlife is amazing, red deer appearing while we had breakfast and a pair of eagles flying overhead. We enjoyed exploring the beach and the ruined castle just down the hill from the cottage. A visit to the cottage is well worth it just for the view from the veranda.

Lovely spacious cottage with the most amazing views.

Very peaceful location A little dated but this doesn't matter as it has everything you would need. Only downside is the noisy water pump in one of the bedrooms but we definitely visit again.

The cottage was filthy.

In the middle of a pandemic we found dirty tissues and urine stains on bathroom doors. It was vomit-inducing.

My family of four had a great week at Thorsvik.

What a beautiful location, wonderful and very comfortable house! The house is well-equipped, spacious, warm and has the most spectacular views. It’s located in The Garden of Skye and there is a lot to do and see in the area. The trip to Elgol is spectacular, for example, and the Armadale Castle is just a short drive away. The Coop in Broadford is not great to be honest, but sells the necessities.

The house is exactly what we wanted; scenery, log burner, peace and quiet!

The scenery was even better than we could ever imagined, I'd have been happy to sit and look at it all day! The house had everything we needed (& more), plenty of space and the peace & quiet we wanted. The cafe at An Crùbh was lovely and has a small shop to save a longer drive to Broadford, if you've forgotten anything. Had a lovely walk out to Onsay lighthouse and lunched at Bar Am Praban. Deers on your doorstep Highly recommend it!

Thorsvik feels like home.

It's a comfortable, homely place with a very practical layout for people coming and going and enjoying doing whatever they want to do- drawing, reading, yoga, playing games, laying out big maps watching films, watching the wildlife, sunsets, passing space station etc. The incredible views from the house always make our stay special.

Having stayed in the cottage the previous year and loved it we knew pretty much what to expect and again it did not disappoint!

!

A stunning location with panoramic views of the sea and the black and red Cuillins - these views are right there as you sit at the dining room table.

If you are lucky you may see the local stag below you, or at least hear it's bellows. The property is spacious and well laid out and equipped. The wifi worked well. If has economy 7 heating, which is less easily controlled than gas central heating, but the property is very thermally efficient so additional heat can be very effectively provided using the the fan heaters. You could probably park 3 cars on the level on the property and it is down the end of a private drive so you will not be disturbed by passing traffic (other than sheep and deer) - it is incredibly quiet. Note that there are several miles of twisty and very steep (1:5) narrow single-track road leading to the hamlet (although with a good road surface and plenty of passing places, but often with sheep and cattle standing in the middle of the road) and a couple of hundred yards of private track to the property itself made up of gravel and paving slabs. If you are a nervous driver or have a sports car with very low ground clearance then this might not be the property for you, but then many properties on Skye will be similar in this regard. Turning right or left out of the property leads down to a couple of picturesque bays, the left one has the ruins of a castle you can walk out to. Again, it is 1:5 hills to get down to both so you might want to drive the short distance rather than walk unless you are pretty fit. We cycled it, but I cannot advise doing that!

Cottage was nice few touches could make this amazing cottage view so clear some instructions for heating be left also some leaflets for area would be nice

This cottage couldn't be in a better location, the views are stunning.

The road down to the cottage is a bit narrow and uneven but we .managed in our little C1. The warm and cosy cottage has everything possible you could need and is really well set out. My only criticism could be that it needs a little updating. Loose towel rails, lumpy mattress, dated decor. But all this is forgotten when you look out of the window. One last thing dont be frightened when you hear bangs against the walls in the night, it's just the sheep.

This may well be the best view in Skye, looking across to the whole Cuillin ridge, Blaven and the red hills - on a good day, just add spectacular sunset.

Huge windows let the view and the light flood in. Such a well-designed and well-equipped house, and impeccably clean on arrival; an excellent base for exploring south Skye which has so much to offer. We absolutely loved it, and would love to come back. (Happy for you to quote the above. Our only niggle, and very slight - somewhat uncomfortable synthetic pillows; we understand they are practical, but maybe worth investing in an upgrade - we have otherwise slept so well on Skye.)

Increadable views, spacious house in a beautiful surrounding.

The house was warm and cosy for a trip to Skye in November.

The views are spectacular, the best way to wake up. You could happily just sit and look out of the windows all day. The wildlife is amazing we saw deer, seals and dolphins from the house and an array of small birds. Just a perfect antidote from normal life. Will be back.

This house feels like home to us, with everything we need and a view to die for.

Great value for money.

Easy to book and very accurate listing. Check in seamless and as arranged. Property very clean and well looked after. Superb views and maybe some more photos of that would also enhance future bookings...so much better than we had hoped and it did not disappoint. Rooms well kitted out and all bigger than we thought. Great location and directions provided spot on! Knew this part of the island but had never stayed on that side of the south. Would definitely return...and did not actually want to leave!! Would definitely recommend!!

Wow!

What a view! Also the cottage is brilliantly laid out for a holiday property with plenty of space for 6 people to relax. Comfortable beds, lots of hot water, always cosily heated on pur return from a day out and plenty cooking equipment etc. The property is wonderfully secluded - 6 miles down a single track road - and so an integral part of the Skye experience. However Broadford, with its Co-op is accessible. Great place, thanks

A great cottage in a great location, if you are into your wildlife then this is the place to be.

Watching the red deer while having breakfast, what could be better.

This cosy, comfortable house is a great size for a group of friends and family who like to enjoy their own different interests and come together at dinner time, looking out over the most spectacular view.

The house has a lot of character and fits so well in the environment, with sheep, deer, owls and other wildlife all around and incredible sunsets most nights. We love this place.

great location .

house could do with a good dusting and clean out. Thick dust on most surfaces. Bit dated decor

The cottage was brilliant, so clean and comfortable, the views are amazing and with the added bonus of 2 friendly deer in the garden.

We are regular visitors to Thorsvik in Skye and the house feels like our second home.

It caters for six of us very well, with plenty of room to allow for all our interests; drawing, bird/animal/star watching, adventuring, reading, playing games, watching films, cooking, baking etc. It is a cosy, welcoming house in an amazing location with good facilities for all weather and eventualities.

Utterly amazing place!

Cannot speak highly enough of it. The road in is not for anyone who is not confident behind the whe if the car but oh so worth the extra effort. I have never felt so st home from home in my life Thorsvik is an outstanding home and very well suited for a truly relaxing get away from everything.

Despite the variable weather - the experience on Skye was wonderful.

The cottage was a home from home with the added bonus of the wildlife nearby - especially the deer who visited every day. Local residents were so friendly and hospitable - ready to offer advice and we even joined in a weekly local art class where we were welcomed with open arms. People were so ready to tell us about special places on the Island and we learnt so much about local history, lore and legend. We met "incomers" who had settled on the Island and they were honest and open about the advantages and disadvantages of Island living which enhanced our overall visit. Most of the people working in the service industry - cafes, restaurants, shops were friendly and helpful.

We are regular visitors to this house and we always feel very much at home.

A lovely, cosy house with good facilities and a stunning view of the Cuillins.

We had a wonderful week at Thorsvik, the home was very well equipped and comfortable.

The views are amazing and we saw plenty of wildlife including the elusive pine martin. Thorsvik is just the place to escape the hustle and bustle with the peaceful surroundings and the panoramic views. The only downside was each time I attempted to make a meal I was drawn to every window to admire the view so we ate late every night (a problem that was more of a bonus). Also the house was supprisingly warm for an open plan space we had to turn the heating down in November. We will definetly be returning.

Thorsvik was wounderful.

We was blown away by how much more than just the essentials this property harbours, the kitchen, the laundry room, the multiple bathrooms. Anything you might need while on your holiday that you forgot to bring is probably there! Including a fascinating collection of books to admire. This place feels very homely, and the views from the decking area are spectacular! (Photos do no justice). We are likely to return :)

Simply an incredible property, with a totally breathtaking view.

We had a brilliant time here over Hogamanay and really enjoyed exploring the surrounding landscape. Remote but very deserving of the journey!

Very easy booking - all the information was provided very clearly and quickly.

Everything was exactly as expected. The cottage was amazing - extremely comfortable and the best location we have experienced after several trips to Scotland. The caretaker was friendly and very willing to answer any queries and the owner also called to check that all was well. We had a superb holiday - many thanks!

Fantastic views from the cottage.

Very comfortable with everything you could wish for in a holiday cottage

Thorsvik is a wonderful place.

The house and the rooms are very comfortable, homely and cosy. The nature around is beautiful. We only could enjoy everything! We can recommend Thorsvik to 100 % and will come back again!

This beautiful house feels like home, with the most spectacular view that changes constantly with the changing light and weather.

A peaceful place surrounded by wildlife and close to small communities. A really beautiful part of Skye.

It was the one of the best places where Ive been , cootage is excellent and place wonderful with people which you love , you are in Heaven.

This cosy, homely house has the most spectacular view.

A sea eagle flew past as soon as we arrived and there were otters and seals very close to shore most days.

It's a minor thing, but there was a slight damp smell in both bedrooms to the back of the property.

Would be worth resolving as I know some people would find this off putting.
