Old Post Office

The old post office is a gorgeous place to stay.

Furnished with Harris tweed and locally produced pictures and ornaments it is a delight. Very comfortable cottage with a well equiped kitchen . Very convenient for exploring Harrus and Lewis and near the port. Had a great week. I am still talking about the gorgeous beaches.

This is a lovely, clean and very well-equipped house in a peaceful location.

We enjoyed the views across the water and seeing the ferries go by on occasion. There was a very nice selection of books and guidebooks in the house to help plan our trips, and we appreciated the welcome gifts that were provided too.

We enjoyed the fabulous sea views from this cottage, watching the ferries and cruise ships go by in the distance and watching the abundant sea life down towards the pier.

The cottage was superbly decorated and showcased local arts and crafts, especially Harris Tweed, and as such felt like someone's home. As walkers we found the wee porch really useful and it also doubled up as a place to sit and take in those sea views.

We have stayed in a lot of cottages, so far this is the best, beautifully presented, exceptionally well equipped and enough books to read in inclement weather.

Comfy, cozy cottage with an amazing view.

Well stocked with everything the four of us needed to make a few meals and recover on our rest day while cycling the Hebridean Way. Tarbert is a short bus ride away to grab food and do a little shopping. Highly recommend. A highlight of our trip.

The cottage is warm and comfortable with lovely views over the bay and the enclosed porch is a beautiful sun trap in which to enjoy those views on a windy day and with table and chairs outside when not.

It is also ideally situated to explore both Harris and Lewis. The hosts are also very welcoming and make themselves available if required.

It always seemed cold in the lounge, and we didn’t want to light the fire every night.

But it was cold outside! We often knocked our heads on the corner above where the kettle was. We had to spend some time getting the tv to work, as it seems the privacy settings were wrong, it wouldn’t connect to the WiFi and the internet. Ok once we sorted it

We had a wonderful stay at The Old Post office.

Everything was comfortable and beautifully decorated. The kitchen was well supplied with all our cooking needs. The location is just right to easily get around Harris without having too long of a drive. The views from the house out to the water are peaceful and lovely. We really enjoyed our stay. This is a lovely cottage that is exceptionally well equipped with a lot of extra homely touches.

It is well located for access to all parts of Harris and Lewis is also within reach. We had a lot of cold wet and windy weather but it was great to return to a warm and welcoming house at the end of the day. Johan was an excellent host ensuring we had all we needed. If we return to Harris we would definitely want to stay here again.

The owners have taken such care and the attention to detail is a pleasure. The views are sublime. It’s only about a 7-10 minute drive from Tarbert, so it’s close to shops. It’s a quiet peaceful retreat after a day of sightseeing or walking. We love this place and will be recommending it to friends and family.

This is a fabulous holiday property.

The rooms are a good size, very tastefully and comfortably furnished and the views are terrific. Everything functions well and the kitchen is well equipped. The property is also really well located for all the attractions on the island. Like so many others, we hope to return.

We've stayed in lots of nice places but the Old Post Office is one of the best. On our arrival the house was absolutely spotless and even better than the listing. Beautiful views, very comfortable and such a well equipped kitchen. It really did have everything we needed. We loved all the tweed and the welcome gifts were greatly appreciated. Check in was very easy and nothing was too much trouble. Harris is such an incredible place to stay.

The cottage has been decorated and fitted out to a very high standard; we wanted for nothing whilst we were there. Johan and Donald, whilst being in no way intrusive, made sure that we had settled in well, and that had everything that we wanted; the treats waiting for us when we arrived were an unexpected bonus. We used the cottage as a base to travel throughout Harris and Lewis and had a wonderfully relaxing and peaceful time - thank you!

The Old Post Office is in a great location on the Golden Road right next to the sea.

It’s furnished and equipped to a very high standard. Our hosts Donald and Johan were very helpful and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Not shown on the listing is a second sitting/dining area and a lockable outhouse for drying/storing outdoor equipment. Thoroughly recommended.

A nice house that makes you feel right at home.

Our family have fallen in love with The Old Post Office.

Such a beautiful location in a quiet area of Harris but only a 10 minute drive down to Tarbert. The facilities are the best ever, every room so comfortable, love all the Harris Tweed cushions, seat coverings etc. Everything and more in the kitchen. Hospitality tray and little Harris Tweed keyrings and bookmarks for us too as gifts. Lovely friendly owners.

The cottage is furnished and decorated with love and a lot of local products. We loved the (color) themed rooms with matching Harris tweed blankets and pillows, the little glass decoration, coasters/place mats and local art (you can actually buy lots of the things in the shops around the island). We got a very warm welcome by the owner and lovely welcome gifts which were very appreciated. You'll find lots of information (leaflets and flyers) and books (guides for hiking, books about the local history etc) for planning your stay. I even managed to read a Peter May novel. The cottage was very well equipped, I didn't miss a thing (had fun cooking and baking in this kitchen), you even get plenty of towels (really good when you are planning on going to the beach). We loved our stay and I can wholeheartedly recommend this place.

The cottage is a real home.

Nothing is missing, it is cozy and pretty as well as well located. The landlady is very nice. Absolute recommendation!

The Old Post office is very well presented and well maintained by the friendly local couple that own the cottage.

They operate at a high standard and the kitchen is well stocked with equipment and crockery. I really liked the use of local Harris tweed fabrics for some of the soft furnishings and upholstery. It is well positioned on a quiet road overlooking a bay with easy access to Harris’ beaches and hills for walking. I did a memorable 10mile bike ride from the Post Office and counted 29 Lochans on the route.

Johan and family were so welcoming and easy to talk with.

The cottage was extremely comfortable, extremely clean, with Everything we could possibly need. The views of the bays are amazing we spent so much time watching the changing moods of the weather. Good walking straight from the front door. Eating out try the Waterside in Tarbet and for three courses the Anchorage in Leverburgh. Luskentyre beach should not be missed glorious. 10 out 10.

The cottage was warm and comfortable, with plenty of logs for the wood burner.

The kitchen is extremely well equipped. The view of the sea out every window is lovely. Despite being on the road, in January, it was very quiet. The owners were very kind and attentive. The night sky was amazing when we went a small way up the road to avoid the street lights. I would recommend this cottage to future guests, you won't be disappointed.

A truly enjoyable stay.

The house is very comfortable, well equipped and beautifully decorated. Every need was catered for. The location of the house makes it a very good base for visiting Harris but also Lewis Island. We wish we had stayed longer!

Immaculately presented with well-appointed kitchen, sitting room, dining room and bathroom with excellent shower. The views are stunning from all of the main rooms! Excellent walks nearby. Plenty of extra storage room in the shed. The peace and tranquility is divine! The owners are very thoughtful and live only a couple of miles away so help easily available if required! An otter swam into the inlet immediately in front of the house! I can't wait to return!

The house was spotlessly clean, very generously supplied with essentials including yummy Hebridean treats.

A wonderful location on a very quiet road with great views to Scalpay and on a clear day, the Scottish mainland.

We had a lovely stay at the Old Post Office.

The cottage was in a great position with views over the sea and on clear days you could see for miles. It was spotlessly clean and had everything that you would need in a holiday cottage. Johan was very welcoming and friendly and the tray of local biscuits and cakes was appreciated.

We think this has to be the best self-catering cottage we have ever visited ( and we have visited quite a few!

We loved our stay at the Old Post Office.

The house is comfortable and well-equipped. Drinishader is peaceful, with beautiful views across the bay. It was lovely to meet the owners, Donald and Johan. They really went out of their way to make sure that we felt at home. Hopefully we will be back someday!

Cottage is very well kitted out with every need catered for and very comfortable and cosy on cooler days - enjoyed the woodburner a couple of evenings. It's a great place!

The Old Post Office was the Highlight of our 3 week visit to Scotland.

We only spent 1 week in Harris but the accommodations were highly rated by all 4 of us. The kitchen was a treat to work with, excellent dishes, pots and pans, cutlery all well laid out! Enjoying cooking with high grade pots, pans and sharp knives! The living room was very comfortable, the chairs in the pictures don’t do them justice. Beds were very comfortable and all three bedrooms windows are greeted by the rising sun with a view of the shore line and open sea. Dining room was spacious for serving meals or playing cards or games with a well stocked library. My favourite spot was the porch with a wee dram in hand and the sunshine. I give it 11 out of 10 , beyond my expectations for comfort and price! Bob Hagar

What a great cottage with lovely views.

We were impressed from the minute we walked in. The cottage was spotless and equipped to a really high standard. We especially liked the home made cakes & biscuits! Johan was very welcoming and friendly. We've already recommended The Old Post Office to several people and no doubt similar comments will be passed on in New Zealand now that the Kiwis have returned home.
