    Bedroom very small. Smart TV very small. I had to stand close in front of it to read some of the channel messages. WiFi good but sluggish to start. Otherwise good range of facilities and equipment. Surrounded by cypress trees, so no view worth mentioning.

  • "Lovely cottage in a beautiful location!"

    We originally booked through Vrbo and found the coordination between Vrbo and Sykes to be both confusing and awkward, We tried multiple times to change the listing (stay longer) but that was not possible without full payment of the existing reservation. In the end we retained the original booking and enjoyed our time at the cottage.

    We enjoyed our short break here during our 2 week road trip the length of the Western Isles. Conveniently located to explore the best Harris has to offer and within easy reach of Lewis (by car). Heather was a great host who it was lovely to meet.

  • "Lovely comfortable cottage set in the most amazing part of Harris, views are stunning, host is very welcoming."

    Recommend visiting the Eilean Glas lighthouse and the coastal route, views over the sea are spectacular, didn’t manage to spot any whales or dolphins but enjoyed the walk, although pretty tiring. Can’t recommend this cottage enough, it was a special holiday for us. The second time in Harris and love it.

  • "Beautifully clean and spacious chalet in a good location to explore Harris and Lewis, and Golden Eagles seen almost daily in the area."

    The chalet is a real home from home with a really well equipped kitchen. Hosts were extremely helpful and the langoustines supplied by Finlay were delicious! Wife says it’s the little things that count and was very pleased to find a good mirror and place for hairdrying and makeup, and also a really good supply of coat hangers! Thank you Hazel and Finlay for a lovely week in your chalet.

    Highlights were visiting St Kilda, truly unique and breathtaking scenery. We walked to Eilean Glas lighthouse and watched a pod of dolphins playing close to the shore, truly magical. Be sure to book a much coveted table at Uig Sands restaurant, the views and the food are sublime

Nestling in a wonderfully remote setting on Scalpay, Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides, is this charming single-storey holiday chalet, Braemore Chalet.

Perfect for a couple looking to get away from it all, Braemore Chalet is the ultimate romantic hideaway and enjoys a superb setting with simply stunning views.

Entering the chalet is like being wrapped in a warm hug with the woodburning stove forming a welcome focal point to the open-plan living space.

It’s easy to imagine curling up on the sofa in front of a roaring fire with that special someone, favourite tipple in hand and admiring the breath-taking views outside the window while enjoying some quality time together.

The beauty of the intimate space is that you can still enjoy each other’s company while rustling up a romantic meal for two in the extremely well-equipped kitchen.

Why not make the most of some of the fantastic produce available locally to prepare a sumptuous feast for your better half before sitting down at the elegant dining table for a romantic candle-lit meal for two?

After a tiring day of exploring, it isn’t far to stagger to bed and the double bedroom offers a snug and inviting space with a beautiful picture window framing the stunning views outside.

To complete the property there is a stylish bathroom where you can choose from a long, hot soak in the bath or a refreshing shower.

Stepping outside the chalet and you are transported to another world where the skies are constantly changing and wildlife is in abundance.

Keep an eye out for eagles and even otters which can be seen close to the property.

Within walking distance there are unspoilt beaches, cycling, hill walking and there is an attractive circular walk around Scalpay where you can see the Eilan Glas lighthouse and over to the Isle of Skye.

Tarbert is a short but scenic drive away and as well as a numbers of shops, boutiques, cafes and restaurants there is the Harris Gin Distillery well worth a visit as is the Harris Tweed Centre.

A little further away is Stornoway which is worth a visit in its own right with its gift shops, award-winning eateries and historical attractions such as Lews Castle and from here you can get a boat to explore neighbouring islands.

The property is a short drive from the ferry terminal in Tarbert.

Small but perfectly formed, Braemore Chalet is the perfect romantic bolthole.

TARBERT ISLE OF HARRIS

Stornoway 36 miles.

Tarbert is the main town of the Isle of Harris and is taken from the Gaelic word for ‘isthmus’ or ‘crossing point’ meaning that it joins south Harris to north Harris and the Isle of Lewis. It is known for being the ferry port for Harris and enjoys a stunning setting with dramatic mountains forming a picturesque backdrop to the town. It is home to a selection of shops including Harris Tweed and Knitwear and dining options include The Harris Hotel serving a selection of dishes using locally sourced ingredients, the Pierhouse Café and Restaurant. While you are here you can stock up on shopping essentials at AD Munro and Nook & Scranny. Just outside Tarbert there are wild beach walks, a wealth of watersports and fishing, and a short drive away is the North Harris Eagle Observatory. The Tarbert area is home to a number of art galleries and workshops showcasing a diverse range of artwork including Hebridean Ceramics, Clisham Arts and Crafts.
