Highly recommended - stunning views from lovely open plan house.

Owners were very helpful and enjoyed our stay very much.

There was so much extra odd bits of decorative stuff about, it would have been better for the owners to have spent on bedside lights by which one could read, decent showers instead of a trickle.

Curtains were cheap, thin and in adequate. The bedroom window catch was very difficult to manage. Kitchen equipment was good.

The house is everything we needed and has been thoughtfully kitted out. We loved being so close to the beach. The welcome pack and hotel like touches were also really appreciated

We had a relaxing stay at Cornkrake cottage.

The cottage was warm, homely and comfortable with beautiful views across Scarista. It is an ideal base for the beach and exploring Harris. The week went too quickly and we didn't want to leave! Next time will be a longer stay. Thank you for the welcome pack goodies which we very much enjoyed!!

Thank you so much for the lovely welcome gifts – they were truly appreciated, especially by our cocker spaniel, Alfie, who felt right at home. The cottage is comfortable, well-equipped, and has everything you could possibly need for a relaxing break. We’ve loved exploring the area, with its stunning, beautiful beaches.

An amazing property so close to probably the best beach in Harris (in our opinion).

Everything about the house was excellent. Absolutely first class.

The property is comfortable and warm which was important given that it was cold outside.

it is very much an 80s/90s property and the furnishings' and décor will need to be updated soon to command the expensive rent the owners demand. That said we had a lovely holiday and the property and its location were integral to our enjoyment. As Scots we know the country well yet Harris must be up there at the very top of destinations with Scarista in pride of place.

Fantastic sized rooms, all bedrooms en suite, exceptionally clean with everything we required provided. Our two families took both houses which sat side beside which was perfect. Thank you

Good cottage, cleaning could have been better.

Mold in downstairs bathroom, hair in the drain of the bath and in the shower upstairs. Cutting knives were not sharp. Just one frying pan. Mold in freezer. Tele did not work properly, took 5 days to have it fixed. The place is great, but guess we were a bit unlucky with the details.

The cottages are in a stunning location - probably one of the best spots in Harris for beach access and sunset views.

They are spacious, extremely comfortable and sparklingly clean. The outdoor “gondolas” are good fun too. We enjoyed a fantastic holiday of beach walks, swimming, walking, coffee stops and evening meals, with glorious skies as a backdrop. Angus and Alina are also lovely hosts, on hand for any issues ( of which there were none during our stay but they contacted me immediately about jewellery I had inadvertently left behind!).

Corncrake is a lovely house, beautifully maintained, supremely clean and in the most perfect location with a very short walk to a stunning beach, which for the majority of the time you have to yourself.

We were so taken with the property we have re-booked for next year. Corncrake was already booked so we have booked the next door property, Otter. Very much looking forward to it.

Angus and Allina are the perfect hosts.

So many lovely little touches, even a lovely welcome pack for our little dog. Corncrake cottage is in the perfect location, just a short walk across a field to beautiful Scarista beach and a 10 minute drive from the stunning Luskyntyre beach. The Cottage is very cosy, spacious and tastefully decorated. There is also a large sitting area on the upper level perfect for reading or taking in the stunning views. It is also equipped with everything you could possibly need. I would highly recommend Corncrake Cottage.

'Holiday of a lifetime' sounds a bit clichéd but possibly doesn't cover our week on Harris in the Outer Hebrides adequately!

!! Ok, we had a week of mainly sunshine and really warm temperatures (and we were aware that our own home in beautiful Cornwall had a week of much rain!) so maybe where we were staying wasn't that important? How wrong you would be! Corncrake Cottage was absolutely wonderful. We were expecting it to be from the range of photos on the LHH website, but sometimes photos don't live up to the reality. Not so in this case! The cottage is beautifully appointed and wonderfully designed. Comfortable and cosy we had everything we needed. Lovely welcome pack of goodies and even a welcome pack each for the dogs, along with bowl and mat for use during the week. Very thoughtful. If rain had forced us to be inside for much of the week it would have been a shame but a pleasure, to spend more time in Corncrake Cottage. The owners have thought very carefully about their property and the duplicate, Otter Cottage, next door. Dogs were allowed so our whippet and our friends' spaniel could come with us and enjoy those miles of unspoilt white sand beaches with us... Scarista Beach was just a five minute walk away and a real joy each day. (We loved Luskentyre as well!). The local shop in Leverburgh stocked an amazing range of things and were so friendly. We had one small issue with a window in Corncrake Cottage. The owner was with us sorting it within 10 minutes. Lovely to meet him and tell him what a great time we were having. If you want to spoil yourself for a self-catering holiday, consider Corncrake and Otter Cottages. They are unlikely to disappoint you in any substantial way. We would return like a shot!

We were delighted with our stay at Corncrake for the week and would thoroughly recommend the property to anyone wishing to access luxury accommodation in Scarista please pass on our delight to the owners.

Where to start to describe our excellent stay at Corncrake, well it could be the arriving late at night to find heating and initial provisions already for a cuppa, it could be the luxury and setting, outstanding.

The owners Angus and Allina, have tried to think of everything to make your stay special, and indeed it is that attention to detail which shows itself all over the property and if you ever need any help advice, it's always available. The property has everything you need as a base for walking the 5 minutes to Scarista Beach, about a mile long stretch of beautiful beach, or venture to Losgaintir (Luskentyre) to the 13th C ruined Chapel at Rubha an Teampaill, built over the site of a 2,000 year old broch, with 5,000 year old Iron Age dwelling site nearby, travel to Renish Point with the picnic basket from Corncrake to view Skye, the Uists and as I was fortunate enough to do, a minke whale........or of course you could just settle for the upstairs panoramic sitting room and watch the otters with a cup of tea......or something stronger, purely medicinal of course. 1st class property - absolutely everything you could wish for and in a stunning location too!

Watching the weather (good and bad) rolling in was better than the TV!I it meant we could time our walks along the fabulous beach without getting soaked - and what a beach!!! Boogie boarding in those waves was something else. I'd definitely recommend this property to all my family and friends.

It was great to be back on Harris and Corncrake certainly provided the luxury and comfort needed for total relaxation. We had a fantastic time. The natural beauty of the island, the unique light, the ability to totally switch off thanks to the comfort of the cottage - a week in Corncrake beats months of holidays elsewhere. We really enjoyed our stay at Corncrake Cottage.

It is in a wonderful location with easy access to the beach. We found the cottage very spacious, comfortable and practical with a good bed and lots of hanging space in the main bedroom and an excellent shower in the en-suite. Unfortunately the removal of soft furnishings in the sitting area, because of covid, meant it felt rather ordinary. Also the dining table and chairs have been replaced and in our view the replacements aren't as nice as those in the photo in the brochure. The LHH brochure promotes high standards so there we a few things which felt didn't match this aspiration. The oven has been replaced and the new one doesn't fit properly; one wheel was missing from the bottom dishwasher tray and another was loose making it frustrating to use; the ring position markings on the hob were completely worn away and the 'fridge door had only a bottle tray at the bottom. In these covid times it was also disappointing that the 'fridge and dining table weren't completely clean. Overall though we did have a really enjoyable and comfortable stay at Corncrake Cottage.

Excellent holiday house.

Perfect location 5 minutes walk from Scarista Beach. Shop 6 minutes drive south and 20 minutes from Tarbert. Very comfortable house that worked well for 5 plus baby and dog. Kitchen had everything you needed to prepare meals and much more. Great views across the golf course to the beach and headland. We will return.

We are on the ferry, leaving Harris, and I just want to grasp the moment and say a huge thank you for all your help and advice for our stay at Corncrake.

As for a location, Scarista beach is about as perfect as it gets - for proximity to Tarbert and Leverburgh....and Temple Cafe at Northton, and beautiful gifts art and coffee at Tallanamara...Corncrake is wonderfully remote, and yet has so many places on hand to ‘pop’ to. The community shop at Leverburgh is the best; we befriended a fisherman at the quay who sold us his lobsters on three occasions! We found a butcher at the Coop in Tarbert, and worked out that the Uist fish delivery was on a Tuesday in Leverburgh. Temple cafe bakery on a Saturday and Sunday were divine (and we have a car full of her bread and pastries and muesli and chutneys and jams....and and and.....), and we went most days for a cheeky latte or mint tea. Alison who runs it is perfect for Harris, and we’re so grateful she has continued to stay open through the pandemic! My advice to anyone going would be to invest in good accommodation - each day, coming home to a lovely warm and cosy place, clean and well equipped, warm showers and comfy beds, was a daily delight. We would stay at Corncrake or Otter again in a heartbeat. We would love to return again soon. Thank you Wynne for all your help, and for calming my fears about my impulsive booking. We are so happy we pushed through and made it to such a beautiful part of our own country - I have seen more rainbows in a fortnight than in my whole life I think!!
