Description

Balallan 1.2 miles.

Enjoying a wonderfully peaceful setting in South Lochs on the Isle of Lewis is this charming single-storey holiday lodge, Ceann an Loch Cottage.

Perfect for families and couples travelling together, the cottage is presented to an extremely high standard.

It might look attractively rustic from the outside but on the inside, it offers all the home comforts any discerning traveller would want.

The light and airy open-plan living space sets the tone for the rest of the property with an inviting sitting area forming the focal point of the room.

The seating is arranged to maximise the beautiful views from the cottage outside and a woodburning stove creates an attractive centrepiece to the space, perfect for curling up and warming up after a day of adventures.

If it’s a warm evening then you can throw open the French doors and recline on the decking area and soak up the views while enjoying your favourite tipple.

Or why not fire up the barbecue and enjoy dinner alfresco?

The decking is also the best place to watch the sun come up over Loch Erisort or watch it set behind the Harris hills and if you keep an eye out, you might even get to see some wild deer meandering over the fields.

The extensive fully-fitted kitchen is the ideal place for cooking up a storm and while the chef prepares a sumptuous meal you can keep them company at the breakfast bar.

Step out of the kitchen into the welcoming dining area which is again positioned to make the most of the stunning views out of the window.

The beauty of the accommodation being all on one level means there isn’t far to stagger to bed and both super king-size bedrooms have their own en-suite wet rooms and there is a family bathroom which even has a wall-mounted TV so you needn’t miss your favourite telly while you’re having a soak!

Ceann an Loch cottage is the perfect base for exploring the delights of the Isle of Lewis and there are activities to suit everyone’s age, budget and taste.

Look out for otters on Loch Erisort or go for a refreshing hike whilst taking in the sublime panoramic views.

A short drive away is the bustling town of Tarbert, home of Harris Tweed and a number of popular eateries with plenty of wild beach walks, watersports and even the North Harris Eagle Observatory, all not far from here.

Stornoway is also only a short distance by car and is a great base from which to explore neighbouring islands and is the gateway to discovering even more of the wonders of the Outer Hebrides.

For a holiday to remember, Ceann an Loch Cottage ticks all the boxes.

The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert, or Ullapool to Stornoway.

Ye bonnie souls who seek a place of rest, Upon the Isle of Harris, where the wild waves crest, Come listen to my humble strain and tune your ears to me, Concerning Ceann a Loch Cottage by the deep blue sea!

There dwelt a happy husband with his loving wife Annette, And noble Loki, chocolate dog, the finest e'er was met; For twa bricht weeks they made this lovely haven their abode, Far from the noisy city and the dusty southern road. The setting is sublime, surpassing all your mortal dreams, Beside the tranquil waters and the softly murmuring streams, With outstanding views of mountains grand and skies of purest hue, Where every shifting shadow brings a breathtaking new view! And oh, what wondrous creatures came to greet them near the night, To fill the gentle evening hours with marvellous delight! The bonnie Highland stags with antlers proud and bold, The soaring golden eagles with their wings of burnished gold, And playful otters diving in the splashing ocean spray, To chase the lingering shadows of the fading Scottish day! Nor can I pass the cottage by without a word of praise, For luxury unbelievable adorns its wondrous ways; With comfort grand in every room, so splendidly designed, A finer house upon this earth you surely will not find! So praise be to Ceann a Loch, and all who tarry there, To breathe the pure Hebridean breeze and roam the scenery fair; A paradise of peace and joy, where heart and soul unite, May all who visit find therein such exquisite delight!

This is a luxury accommodation.

There is every modern beautifully maintained facility. The view from all windows, especially the lounge, is amazing. Get up early to witness the sunrise. It’s on a “major” road- the morning “rush” hour we three cars! It’s so quiet and peaceful and yet, a s supermarket and petrol station is just a 15 minute drive away. The hosts are lovely and ready to help. We can recommend this cottage too highly.
