  • "A comfortable cottage in a beautiful spot!"

Good base from which to explore Lewis and Harris. Very peaceful and away from it all whilst also fairly convenient if arriving on the ferry at Stornoway. Recommended :)

Even better than the photographs. Will always remember our stay here, especially watching the boats on the harbour from the kitchen window. Stayed in many cottages over the last twenty years this is our number one.

  • "The cottage exceeded our expectations."

It was a real home from home with the bonus of a stunning view and lots of visiting birds. Liz was so helpful in showing us places to visit. Rob built a gate while we were there which enclosed the garden for our medium sized pooch, but a tether was also provided. The cottage was comfortable and we loved the conservatory and little reading snug. It had so many touches that showed how thoughtfully it had been set out for guests needs. It was well maintained and a new panel radiator and large fridge freezer had been installed the day we arrived. A bonus was to find a laundry room in the house. The location of the property was ideal for touring the island as it was about 1 mile away from the middle point of the main road that runs from top to bottom of the island so nearly all sights were no more than an hours drive at the most. Stornoway and the lovely Lews Castle and the Callanish standing stones being the closest. All in all a super cottage and definitely a good choice. Highly recommend.

  • "We had a great stay at Beech cottage everything was perfect and the facilities were fantastic."

The property was immaculate and the beds we’ve very comfortable. The information we received prior to arrival was very accurate and we had no issues finding the property. Liz was very accommodating and provided us with information about the best places to visit on the island which we found very helpful. Also the information in the welcome pack came in very useful with the facilities in the property and also locations of local restaurants. Finally the views are spectacular from the property we would definitely return and recommend to family and friends.

  • "Truly the most amazing cottage we have ever had the pleasure of staying in."

The view, especially in the morning from the bedroom windows was absolutely phenomenal. Liz & Rob were so helpful and welcoming. Liz's attention to detail with things in the cottage truly gave this place the edge on all others. Nothing was too much trouble. A home from home and a home we spent our week talking about living in! Everything you could imagine needing.... was there! Our friends who were staying on the island too visited our cottage and said when they come back they wanted to stay there too! For anyone looking for a Blissful Outer Hebrides Sanctuary type cottage life experience THIS IS THE PLACE!! Thank you Liz & Rob! You made our holiday perfect. We will be back.

  • "Beech Cottage is fantastic."

Ideally located only 12 miles from Stornoway and 15 from the famous Callanish stones, the perfect place to explore the Isle of Lewis and Harris from. The Cottage is spotless, with stunning views from the kitchen diner. There is a cosy reeding room with a bookcase full of novels to browse, there's also a selection of board games available. Beech was lovely and warm, even more so with a log or two in the wood burner. Everything was perfect, an absolute gem of a place. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

  • "The cottage was one of the best we've stayed in, very well equipped and beautifully furnished."

The view was breathtaking and the owners were very helpful and friendly. Location is idyllic and you can get around all of Lewis and Harris with its incredible scenery. We had a fantastic time. The only thing I would suggest would be more coasters as I was worried I would mark the beautiful furniture. Would love to come back!

  • "We have just returned from a lovely week at Beech Cottage."

The accommodation was spotlessly clean, extremely well-equipped and very comfortable. The cottage has been furnished with comfort and practicality at the forefront of the owners’ minds. I fell in love with the wee snug which contained a very well-stocked bookshelf, perfect for chilling out in after a day at the beach. The play park a few minutes walk from the cottage was a huge hit with our six year old and there was also space to give our energetic dog a good run in a secure space. The mature gardens framed the view of Loch Erisort perfectly. Twenty minutes drive from Stornoway, the cottage is ideally located for amenities and the spectacular beaches Lewis has to offer. The owners live next door and we received a friendly welcome. We plan on returning, and highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing and comfortable break on Lewis.

  • "Lovely location overlooking a loch."

It feels delightfully isolated but your helpful hosts live in the other cottage next door. Yet it is just 5 minutes drive to the main road that runs through Harris and Lewis, is near the turn for West Lewis and about a 15 minute drive to Stornoway. The two of us felt very much at home in this charmingly decorated property.

About the location

STORNOWAY

Arnol 14.5 miles; Callanish Stones 16 miles.

Stornoway is the only town in the Outer Hebrides and is a bustling and growing area with a busy working harbour, a great selection of shops selling local gifts including Harris Tweed, leisure facilities and wonderful award-winning restaurants selling locally sourced food of the highest quality. Lewis is a place where the lilting Gaelic language is spoken everywhere! Visitors to the town will find plenty to keep them occupied, the magnificent Lews Castle Grounds and the iconic Lews Castle, many good museums and art galleries and also a smart golf course and clubhouse. The large, quiet sandy beaches are close by and provide visitors with wonderful views and the town itself forms a great base for a holiday exploring the unique islands that form the Outer Hebrides. On the north west side of Lewis you can visit the village of Arnol with its Blackhouse Museum, an unmissable visit for anyone wanting to understand the way of life that was once widespread in Lewis. Carloway Broch is nearby and is another fascinating landmark and incredibly well preserved. The Callanish Stones from the Neolithic are also well worth visiting. The whalebone arch and numerous Iron Age dwellings on stunning Bosta beach make for great days out.
