  • "A lovely little cottage in well maintained condition."

Large bedrooms and spacious kitchen. The living room was comfortable and contained all required amenities whilst being a little bit dated and feeling a little cramped for 4 people. However, this would be an extremely minor point as we had no issues. The host was extremely helpful and friendly. Would recommend.

Thanks for your feedback Allan and for staying with us during your visit to Ness. Also thanks for your recommendation. Property Owner

  • "A much loved family home which has been lovingly restored."

The house is in Lionel not the Port of Ness which we had thought. The bedroom downstairs was very comfortable and en suite shower was very good. The welcome pack was lovely and the best we have ever had. We did find the property a little cold, the fire in the lounge didn’t heat the room but we did stay during a particularly chilly spell. Helpful owner and very good information pack.

Thanks for your feedback Martin and your positive comments. We will address the issues you raised. Property Owner

  • "A very comfortable property which is in a quiet position and with far reaching views that take in the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse and the Atlantic Ocean."

It was a great base to explore the north of the island and the 'westside', with its great beaches. The cottage is very comfortable and cosy, especially the downstairs bedroom, this room was so useful with an ensuite for those of us of a certain age! The sitting room also had views out to the lighthouse with a comfortable suite and good lighting for reading. The walled front garden was also a bonus for our dogs. The 'icing on the cake' was the weather, it was fabulous! We look forward to returning in the future. The owner and housekeeper were very if helpful.

Thanks for your great feedback Mike! We're glad you enjoyed your stay at the Fisherman's Holding and look forward to welcoming you back another time. Property Owner

  • "Home to visit family and friends, there were 5 of us and 1 dog, the house was perfect for our needs, and was really cosy and comfortable, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

Loved the coastal theme in the house, it was clean and had everything we needed to feel at home for our weeks stay. Great panoramic view out towards the Butt of Lewis, would certainly recommend this house to others, and plan to come back again ourselves.

  • "This is a lovely cottage with great views across the moor and over to the sea."

Handy for the North part of the island where there are fantastic beaches and good cafes. The house has a good sized en-suite bedroom downstairs and a double and twin room upstairs. The front garden is entirely enclosed which is great for dogs or to keep young children safe. The rear garden is a field which is superb for playing football or run around. Fully electric heating and comfortable furniture completes the accommodation. A nice welcome pack with porridge, chocolate, oatcakes, biscuits etc. One thing take bread and milk with you for the Sunday as most shops and cafes are closed that day. The local hotel is busy and you need to book in advance.

Thanks Sheila for your lovely feedback and comments! We're glad you enjoyed your stay in Ness. Property Owner

About the location

PORT OF NESS

Ness 1.5 miles; Bragar 19.7 miles; Stornoway 26.8 miles

With an intriguing little harbour backed by a jagged headland, merging into an east-facing beach, the Port of Ness (Port Nis) rests at the northern tip of the Isle of Lewis. Offering an insight into the legends, lore and long-observed traditions that have shaped the island’s identity, this community, in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, is a stronghold of the Gaelic language. Harbour View Gallery is where you will find some of locally-based artist Anthony J Barber's works on view. Cross boasts an inn that looks slightly out of place, along with one of the brightest and most cheerful looking post offices you'll find anywhere. From the nearby Butt of Lewis you can look out across the unforgiving waters of the Atlantic and stand in the shadow of a Stevenson lighthouse built of red brick. Take in the breath-taking scenery from the Isle of Lewis' northernmost point, surrounded by the swells of an ever-rising sea. The Butt of Lewis features some of the oldest rocks in Europe, having been formed in the Precambrian period. Discover Dùn Èistean, an archaeological site on the north east coast, showcasing the ruins of two large buildings amongst grassy tussocks. Stornoway is just 40 minutes away by car, with a busy working harbour, selection of shops selling local gifts including Harris Tweed and award-winning restaurants selling locally sourced food. Visit Lews Castle Grounds and the iconic Lews Castle as well as museums and art galleries. This beautiful location is for those looking to get out and explore the rural landscapes and fascinating Scottish heritage the Isle of Lewis has to offer.
