  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Dunnit Cottage, East Dean."

It is located nearby quiet pleasant scenic villages and countryside, but with easy access to the ancient market towns of Salisbury and Romsey. There are nice walks around the villages and interesting old churches to visit. We enjoyed the lunches and friendly atmosphere in the Kings Head pub in nearby Whitchurch village. The cottage itself was very nicely furnished with a lounge and seperate dinning room and library. Behind the cottage was nice garden grounds overlooking a river. The only downside was the poor plumbing in one of the bathrooms and inconsistent night light timers . In addition, a more personal guidance approach by the owner of where the keys to all the windows are located would've been helpful. Otherwise a memorable stay. Baz

  • "The Dunnit is very well equipped, well furnished and the cleanliness of the property was exemplary."

The owners were very friendly & welcoming but also very respectful of our privacy. The shared grounds are quite extensive and we enjoyed several peaceful evening walks down by the river. The location is excellent with lots of things to see & do. We enjoyed exploring the local area including visits to Salisbury Cathedral, the Hawk Conservancy, The Royal Navy Museum in Portsmouth, the National Motor Museum and the New Forest. We would highly recommend this property.

  • "The Dunnit was a lovely place to stay."

Well equipped and very comfortable. Owners were lovely and very helpful. Having the river at the bottom of the garden was a delight to our grandsons. We had the best week. Thank you Steve and Sue.

  • "We loved the location as adults we loved the property but would not recommend property for young children."

The high chair and cot were in good condition and clean however there were a lot of ornaments etc that we had to move to avoid accidents and breakages. No stair gates made it hazardous with an adventurous toddler. When we arrived the temperature upstairs was over 30 degrees and too hot to sleep. The third bedroom did not have any windows which did not help. It would be helpful for fans to be provided or to advise customers to bring fans for hot weather. We did knock at the owners home to see if they had any but think they were away as we didn't see anyone for the duration of our stay. This is meant as constructive feedback as we would not hesitate to stay again but as an adult only group.

Thank you for your feedback and we are delighted that you loved the property and would not hesitate to stay again. Regarding the specific matters you mention, we are always keen to receive, and act on, constructive feedback for the benefit of future guests. However in line with Sykes website policy, accuracy and fairness of reviews is also important so as not to create a misleading impression and so we would clarify a couple of points. There was a member of the owner’s family on site all week including coming and going to work Monday to Friday and a prominent buzzer on the main door which was not used. Sykes confirm that no call was made to them at any point either directly, or using the phone number provided in our guest information pack specifically there to deal with any possible queries. Your feedback was therefore the first time we were made aware of your points and this surprised and disappointed us as it gave us no opportunity to deal with your concerns as we would have wished to. Regarding the erratic weather, over which we clearly had no control, we do have fans which we could readily have provided on request for those days when it was particularly sunny. Naturally, as a family friendly property, we do also have a stairgate available for the use of any guest who requests it. We have now taken the additional step of specifically adding that to our listing on the website as the need to be safe clearly applies to any property with stairs. Finally, we provide a normal domestic, comfortable and welcoming environment suitable for the wide range of families who stay with us and we are quite happy for guests to move ornaments or furniture to meet their own requirements during their stay. • "The property was excellent."

Well equipped, clean and tidy. There was lovely welcome pack on arrival. We had one small issue with internet access but once contacted the owners quickly helped us sort this. The location of the property was very rural and handy for many places that we visited; Salisbury, Winchester, Stonehenge, Bombay Sapphire Gin Distillery and Peppa Pig World which our 3 year old granddaughter loved but we did seem to spend time driving the same winding roads.

  • "We stayed at The Dunnit for 4 weeks while we were waiting for our new house purchase to complete, and it truly was a welcome escape, its so well equipped for a long and short stay from the kitchen equipment to the game selection everything made our stay amazing and we would highly recommended staying here."

The location is lovely set in the countryside but also near to some great locations such as Romsey, Salisbury and the new forest and paultons park , The Dunnit is set in beautiful grounds with a river that our daughters loved visiting everyday ( we miss our river walks) And owners sue and Steve are brilliant and so accommodating nothing is to much, they really made our stay so special. So to sum up if you are pondering booking with any other property choose the dunnit you won’t regret it, it truly is a 5* country escape.

  • "Enjoyed staying here as it was very peaceful."

Would recommend it to my friends. Only thing was we chose a bad week as it rained all the time as we wanted to spend more time by the river. Maybe better next time.

  • "A really nice property."

Clean and well presented with everything we needed. The owners were friendly and available if needed. The location was wonderful. It’s in the middle of the countryside so very quiet and relaxing but not too far from the New Forest and other areas of interest such as Mottisfont, Stonehenge etc. The reason we picked this property over others was the availability of an EV charger. We had two EVs in our party so this was essential.

  • "The cottage was lovely for 6 of us over the weekend (with the family) and peaceful for the 2 of us for the rest of the week."

Good access to the New Forest, Romsey & Salisbury. I appreciate your comment that I wasn't on holiday to clean, but a few cleaning clothes and a dustpan and brush would be good, to keep the bathroom sparkling and wipe around the kitchen and dining room after meals. Thankyou for a lovely stay.
