  • "The River House is an exceptional holiday property with so much to offer."

The house is spacious and comfortable with lots of interesting artefacts. The garden and surrounds with the river running through was very well maintained and great for spotting wildlife. One of us was thrilled to glimpse a kingfisher! The owner is keen that staying at The River House should be a perfect experience for guests. I think they've done a pretty fine job. We shall have wonderful memories.

  • "Riverhouse is fantastic and we hope to return soon."

Book it, it is the best quality holiday accommodation I have ever stayed in. The welcome basket was huge with tea, coffee, coffee pods, sugar, milk, biscuits and prosecco. Mini shower gel, shampoo and conditioner were provided and big fluff towels. It was accessible for my elderly parents and my Mum who has dementia even settled into the veranda and enjoyed the ever-changing wildlife. The private gardens are huge and cover both sides of the river. Geese, goslings, herons, ducks, ducklings, swans and cygnets came daily. We saw yellow wagtails and a Chinese goose who was very chatty. I even saw a deer in the garden early one morning. The ensuite to the twin room has a walk-in shower which was easy to access for my parents. The owner Katherine, is friendly, patient and replied promptly when I had a couple of questions. The gas BBQ was great with quality tools provided to use with it. We are all missing the veranda and views from the bedrooms (the twin room is at the back with no view or immediate access to the river - safe for children). Two of the king-size beds have electric blankets available on them. The bedding is soft and fluffy. The whole house is high quality with plenty of glasses, plates etc. Due to my Mum's dementia needs I cooked all week and everything I needed was available in the kitchen. There are 3 fridges in the accommodation so there's plenty of space for everything. Tesco's delivery worked well for us and we topped up with bits from the local shops. We enjoyed the local walks, a few drinks in the local pub (The Plough)and a visit to Longleat Safari Park. The Wfi is highspeed BT/EE and reaches throughout the accommodation and on to the veranda. We think there was someone in the annexe, however other than the car moving occaisionally we would never have known that they were there. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

It was the perfect place to meet up and to spend precious time with our adult children. Katherine was very welcoming in her communications and left us a very generous welcome pack. The wonderful verandah was a lovely place to view the beautiful garden, wildlife and the river. It was just so peaceful. The cottage itself was spacious and very comfortable and clean with everything you would need. We felt totally at home. We visited Avebury, Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral during our visit. The property is really beautiful and had everything we needed and more. We really did not want to leave and will certainly go back. With the river running through the garden we saw herons fishing ,swans and ducks. Because the grounds cover both sides of the river there are no passing boats so it is very private. The verandah with lovely garden furniture meant we could be outside even when the weather wasn't on our side. The owner was very helpful and had left us a welcome tray of goodies to start our stay. The accommodation was beautiful and very comfortable. If anyone had mobility problems this would be an ideal property as everything is on one level and spacious. We did enjoy visits to Longleat, Salisbury and Winchester and several indulgent lunches in local pubs, with the Malet Arms in Newton Tony being a favourite with a very friendly welcome and good choice of food. The property itself is very spacious and comfortable (super comfy beds), tastefully furnished and very well equipped, with obviously a lot of thought gone into guests comfort and enjoyment by the owners. But the star of the show has to be the stunning outside space which exceeded expectations. Wildlife we saw: kingfisher (x4), heron, swans regularly feeding right in front of us, trout, water voles(!), green woodpeckers, buzzards, red kite, squirrels, damsel flies, dragonflies. • "What a wonderful place!"

The house and grounds are stunning, the furnishings comfortable and the rooms well equipped. It is a perfect haven for nature lovers, like ourselves. During our stay, we saw a variety of wildlife including: blue tits and their fledglings, a flock of Canada geese and several goslings, squirrels, swans, ducks and ducklings, a reed warbler, a nuthatch, chaffinches, a woodpecker, moorhens, a heron (several visits!!), a water rat, many other garden birds (right outside our window) and we also heard a woodpecker. Sadly, we did not have the pleasure of catching sight of the otter or the kingfisher - maybe next time?? We spent many happy hours wandering the gardens and watching the river. The location is also perfect for visiting Stonehenge (we walked from Woodhenge) - the public byway that means you don't need to pay to get to see the stones. Salisbury is only twenty minutes or so drive away and it is easy to get to the many other interesting archaeological sites in the region. There is a local shop in the village only a ten minute walk away, which sells everything you might need. All in all, we didn't want to leave at the end of the week - we truly felt like our batteries had been fully recharged! We would highly recommend The River House as a perfect place to relax, unwind and immerse yourself in the calming effects of nature :-)

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. I’m so glad you enjoyed the river house. You were very sensible walking to Stonehenge. • "This is a late review due to medical issues."

We could not have chosen a better property to celebrate my husbands big birthday with friends, which was so important. My jaw dropped on entry. It was just perfect. Even when we had a mini tornado up the road outing our power for about 36 hours as a tree fell across the road & over the electric gates preventing our use of the cars it was an experience! The owner did all she could from a great distance, was so very helpful and her son came from several miles away to assist. The local tree surgeon immediately got on with removing the tree from across the road. The neighbours were fantastic with an extension lead to keep a fridge and kettle going and the fabulous wood burner kept us all toasty! No issue, just an experience! The property was really well equipped all round. I took my own kitchen scales and mixer to make a birthday cake but I need not have bothered as they were available. A room to put wet gear and wellies and a shooting stick which my husband much appreciated at the time. The master bedroom has a large TV and lovely electric flame fire (expensive holiday as I now want that fire!) and own veranda. The beds are so comfortable! The cushions had kindly been left out for veranda furniture even though it was the first week in November. So glad as we used it regularly and had 3 breakfasts outside. Just beautiful. The house is adorned with fab artwork, some by the owner, some personal. Just a shame we did not have time to make use of the books in the lovely library. We saw the heron, swans and kingfisher but sadly missed the otter. The river is so lovely and there are many local walks. There were a couple of snagging issues which owners were keen to know about - could only laugh at the fact I could not get out of our bathroom one evening as the lock did not work (only used due to outage situation) just as I was about to climb out of the window, friend managed to manipulate the lock from the outside! This is so good as many places we have been in the UK are clearly not interested in snags. No negatives at all! Just don't book when we want to return!!

What absolutely lovely feedback, thank you so much for posting this. I’m sorry I did not respond earlier, my apologies I’m so glad that even in November you enjoyed it so much and were able to use the outside Veranda. Your feedback made me chuckle and I’m glad you had a sense of humour about the bathroom incident. My best wishes, Katherine Property Owner
