The property

This beautifully and sympathetically renovated 19th-century farmhouse is the perfect place to stay and enjoy the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales.

Ideally situated for exploring the local countryside, Tarn House sits near the head of Wensleydale, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

It is an easy 30-minute drive to many of the area’s most loved spots, including Swaledale with its hay meadows and waterfalls, Wharfedale, Dentdale, Ribblehead Viaduct (and a great pub!), Malham Cove, the Yorkshire Three Peaks, and many other beautiful Dales villages.

Guests will love the abundance of waterfalls nearby, with the most local being Cotter Force, a mere four-minute drive away.

Local walks are plentiful and beautiful, including a walk from the house which visits the wild woodland of Snaizeholme, home to red squirrels.

Located about a mile and a half from the pretty market town of Hawes, and with sweeping views from almost every window, Tarn House offers a peaceful, rural escape while still being close to local amenities.

Hawes has an excellent grocery shop, four pubs, the Wensleydale Creamery, and The Pantry — a local gem of a café serving homemade food, delicious cakes, and desserts.

Hawes also offers many other cafés, as well as plenty of shopping and food options.

Whether you want to use the cottage as a base to explore the Dales, get away from the stress and pace of everyday life, sit in the garden with stunning views, or curl up in front of the fire with a good book, Tarn House is perfect.

The kitchen is well appointed, with a cooker, oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer, and all the kitchen utensils you will need.

The living room is a beautiful place to sit and relax, with comfortable sofas, a smart TV, a music speaker, a lovely wood-burning stove, and views of the fields beyond the garden.

The dining room is furnished with a lovely French oak dining table, which comfortably seats six and is perfect for a wholesome meal at the end of a day spent exploring.

The three bedrooms are all beautifully decorated in a cottage antique heritage style, with wonderfully comfortable king-sized beds in every room — perfect for a good night’s sleep before the next day’s adventures.

The cottage has a bathroom, two showers, and three toilets, making it ideal for a full house.

There is plentiful parking, with space for three cars easily, and a truly beautiful garden with wonderful views.

It is ideal for al fresco meals, a good barbecue, or simply sitting with a cup of tea and taking in the landscape.

With Starlink fast WiFi, a smart TV, and all the comforts needed for modern living (including working from home should you need to!) Tarn House combines the charm of a traditional Dales farmhouse with everything you need for a relaxing and memorable stay.

Please Note: This property does not accept arrivals or departures on Sundays.

HAWES

Leyburn 16 miles.

Hawes is a popular market town in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire and is regarded as one of the honeypot tourist attractions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Standing between Buttertubs and Fleet Moss, the town is an excellent centre for walking and touring Wensleydale and the adjoining dales of Swaledale, Cotterdale, Dentdale, Garsdale, Wharfedale and Chapel-le-Dale. Take a walk around the Hawes Town Trail, Millennium Walk, Pennine Way or along the River Ure, which is nearby. In 1998 Hawes was awarded the English Tourist Board Silver Award for the "Best Day Trip Out". Modern traffic has long replaced coaches and horse drawn wagons along its narrow streets, but market day (Tuesdays) in Hawes is as busy as ever, with a farmers’ auction attracting sheep farmers from all over the north of England. Traditional shops, cafés and inns now cater for a variety of Dales visitors as well as the local community. The award-winning Wensleydale Creamery, made famous by the animated Wallace and Gromit films, is now open to visitors so that they can see the famous cheese being made and sample the end product in a welcoming café. In the old station yard you will find the busy National Park Centre and Dales Countryside Museum. The Museum is home to the magnificent collection of Dales artefacts by the two great Dales historians and writers, Marie Hartley and Joan Ingilby.
