  • "This cottage is a gem, everything we look for in a holiday cottage and more."

The very helpful owners run a B&B called the Sundial House and Dovecote is behind, they are close if you have any questions, the courtyard is private and enclosed ,the hot tub and smart tv make for a relaxing treat listening to smooth radio. The village is lovely with the village shop/post office which sells everything,2 pubs ,the Crown and The Farmers Arms which has a Sunday Carvery. We loved the river walks with our 2 dogs ,Richmond is about 10 mins drive away, also for Racing fans Catterick Racecourse is a walk away.

..and painting the ceiling above the shower as it is black with possibly mould...it is the start of summer season...some cobwebs in high places eg.. arched window in bedroom.,pillows are not comfortable as very thin...however it's a great place. Safes for dogs...village is lovely, great location...

  • "The Dove Cote is a lovely place to stay and handy for many places to visit."

The cottage itself was clean and comfortable. There was everything needed for a good weeks holiday. The patio area and around the hot tub I cleaned myself and brushed cobwebs and dead flies etc from the skylight above the hot tub. One of the main problems for me was lack of a lawned area for the dogs. I had to take them away from the cottage for toileting and as the weather was exceptionally hot it was tiresome. My dogs wouldn’t use the patio as they’ve been trained not to. After saying that I knew there was no garden but didn’t expect 28 degree weather!! I would recommend the cottage but dog owners need to be mindful of it’s suitability for their dogs.

The one thing I would say is that the address could be clearer, dove cote address is given as 18 Richmond Road when this is in fact the sundial b&b with dove cote being behind it.

me and my partner went to dove cote for 5 nights, had the absolute best time. It is PERFECT, from a well equipt kitchen, lively hot tub, lovely homey touches to being located in such a beautiful place. Our hosts were fantastic, they are very thoughtfull with that you will need and they provide! we had one question and dave was round in 5 minutes. without mentioning he picked up that we had been closing the back gate by using a broom and he came and put a hook on without mentioning- amazing really. its going to be a yearly thing for us. i left a charger and dave was kind enough to post it back and wouldn't let me pay for postage! great place, great people!

  • "Lovely cottage and quiet surroundings, sadly it wasnt up to standard in cleanliness."

Rug in living room had rice on it and what looked like rubber pieces from a dog toy. Utensils were dirty in draw we ended up washing everything we would use. Toilet in bedroom had thick dust on the seat when lifted it had yellow dried in wee stains plus thick soap stains around the sink taps. Wardrobe had thick layer of dust on top. We know you will get dust but that wasnt just a days worth. Also full description it lists a Washer/ Dryer its only a washing machine. You dont expect to go on holiday to start cleaning when you arrive. Hopefully owners will take this on board as cottage is lovely and handy for visiting Richmond, Northallerton, Masham

Thanks for your feedback. As a proactive owner I take all feedback onboard and check any issues. The rug has been checked and steam cleaned, thank you for letting us know. Any dust has now also been removed and yellow stains have been checked, I believe they were from cleaning fluid and this will be checked/rinsed thoroughly in future. Utensils are usually put through a dishwasher cycle on guest changeovers, this will be monitored going forward. The advert will also be updated to advertise washing machine only. I'm glad you enjoyed the area and thank you again for your comments so that we can maintain our standards. Property Owner

About the location

BROMPTON-ON-SWALE

Richmond 3 miles; Leyburn 12 miles; Reeth 14 miles; Barnard Castle 18 miles.

The village of Brompton-on-Swale is situated to the east of Richmond on the northern banks of the River Swale. Named in the Domesday Book the village name is believed to have been derived from “broom” (the Shrub) and “tun” an old English word meaning farmstead or village. Today the village is home to a traditional pub and village shop. There are pleasant walks to be enjoyed around the village and along the riverside. The nearby ancient market town of Richmond is three miles away with its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' which enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman fortress dating back to 1071. Today Richmond offers wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Brompton-on-Swale is located between the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Yorkshire Moors National Park providing an ideal location for exploring this scenic area.
