  • "It’s our 2nd stay here in Skyfell, and it doesn’t disappoint."

The house is very clean, well equipped and furnished to a high standard, everything has been thought of and more. The beds are super comfy and the welcome basket is always very much appreciated. Skyfell sits on the edge of Grimwith reservoir and there’s no noise or light pollution in this area. It was a perfect setting for our Border Collie who is nervous with fireworks over the bonfire period. Jerry the caretaker is on hand if you need anything and makes sure you have plenty of supply’s to keep the fires burning inside, and for the Swedish hot tub. We absolutely love our stays here and are always somber on leaving - we know we will be back next year and already look forward to our next visit. If you want a peaceful retreat with plenty of walks and wildlife, this is the place to be. Our highest recommendation!

We were there for a long weekend for a family celebration. The rooms are all incredible, finished to the best standard, views out all the windows breathtaking! • "The perfect place to escape from everyday life!"

I knew from photos, that it was going to be picturesque but even then the surroundings were so much more magnificent than I expected. From the drive through the Dales, down the track to Grimwith Houses, looking out of any window of the property, walking/running around the reservoir route or driving to any other the little picturesque villages nearby. Its truly breathtaking. The listing doesn't tell you just how peaceful and tranquil the location is, or how many flocks of geese fly over, or the waterfalls and wildlife around the reservoir or even how close you get to the water just on the rocks by the side of the house- skimming stones available too. The house is beautiful and upon arrival, seemed to never end. It's a cosy place to go and enjoy doing absolutely nothing. The hottub is an absolute bonus and our children played for hours in it. The copper bath is an added touch of luxury. Jerry is a lovely bloke and happy to talk through the history of the three properties on site, and help with anything else. I could have happily stayed in the secluded bubble for much longer. Thank you Jerry. We will return!

The properties themselves were spotless on arrival, and exactly as described on the listing. Jerry was very helpful and always on hand if we had any questions or wanted advice, and also got the hot tubs nice and hot for our arrival. We had everything we needed already there meaning we only had to bring clothes, food and drink, and the welcome hamper was also a nice touch. The location itself is amazing with a nice walking route around the reservoir and also longer routes to nearby villages where we found some great local pubs, shops and takeaways. This is my second time visiting this property and definitely won’t be the last. It really does cater for all and cannot recommend it enough!

We had a wonderful family weekend. The house was beautiful and the welcome hamper was one of the best that we’ve received. The kitchen is very well stocked, plates, glasses, etc. maybe the only thing that could be a little better is the seating area outside but saying that there is enough seats to sit on, just think more could be made of the outside area, but this certainly did not detract from a wonderful stay and we would definitely rebook.

Could smell wood smoke from fireplace in sitting room upon arrival. Appreciate this is an old barn, but signs of damp in sitting room and downstairs toilet with paintwork sanded back to plaster, but not repainted. Given the cost of the rental, this should be sorted in advance of the season. Master bedroom door also needs planning as doesn’t close without using force. The above feedback is given to improve on otherwise excellent accommodation and would highly recommend.

The quality of the property, the incredible location, the warm welcome and wonderful service from host Gerry made for a very relaxing break. As stunning as the location is, the pictures really don’t do justice to the interior of the properties. We stayed at Skyfell, but were fortunate to be shown inside the cottage and barn by Gerry. They’re all fabulously furnished to a very high spec and as they’re on a remote, private peninsular; have spectacular views over the reservoir. The kitchen is very well stocked with utensils and even cooking equipment you wouldn't've think it would have. A lovely dinning room which can fit about 10 people and a lovely living room with open fire. A very relaxing place, Jerry and Hayley are easily contactable, we did have an issue with the power which wasn't a fault of the owners and it was resolved quickly. • "A wonderful place to stay."

It really does feel like your own personal slice of paradise, the location is lovely, right on the waters edge with spectacular views all around. My wife took her paddleboard and was in her element. The dogs loved it, the 4.5 mile walk around the reservoir is straight forward enough but with our German Shepherd being 11 we only did the full circuit once but she enjoyed the shorter walks each day. The grouse and pheasant kept her occupied! The property it self was spacious and had everything we needed. Beds where comfortable and everything was clean. Good water pressure for a decent shower. Even when outside the temperature dropped to 1 or 2 degrees celsius it was warm in the house. The lounge had a lovely open fire with a great stock of logs to keep us toastie in the evenings and add to the atmosphere. A big thank you to Jerry who looked after us when we had any questions and gave good instructions to keep the hot tub hot and clean. If he was at the property for any reason he kindly stocked us up with more logs, firelighters and changed the water in the hot tup. Really pleasant chap and a credit to the property. Little things like that make the stay that bit more enjoable. We would highly recommend this property to those wanting to escape and relax. But on the days that you do want to venture our, Grassington and Pateley Bridge are 10-15 minutes away and Ripon, which we thoroughly enjoyed, is just over half an hour away. Truly a great place!

Very comfortable, well equipped, smart TVs in the bedrooms with Freeview for those rainy days. The views coming down the track when you first arrive are breathtaking. Beds are very comfy and the cleanliness is second to none. Every window has the most stunning views. Hot tub is great. It's an exceptionally rural place away from everything. No traffic noise no light pollution, exceptionally quiet. Great walks right from the door. I want to go back already and I've only been home one day. Some practical things to note - the track to the cottage is a stony gravel path. It is very well maintained but if you are precious about your car or have a low riding car this could be an issue for you. There are three cottages on site, all are very private but they do share a courtyard at the front- might be an issue if you are taking a dog that might not like other dogs/ people walking past. The court yard is very secure for pets. All back garden areas are separate and very private but they are open/unfenced. This means all views are completely uninterrupted but just something to think about if your dog is a runner. The cottage is right on the edge of a very deep reservoir, this means bugs/midges/gnats etc. Take bug spray for your skin, especially if you like to sit outside in the summer. Communication was great, key pick up was easy. The welcome hamper was exceptionally generous and the people that manage this cottage are so friendly and helpful. I holiday once a year in the UK and have stayed in many cottages but Skyfell has been the best place I have ever stayed. I loved it.

A high spec property with loads of space. Well equipped. Offering absolute peace and tranquillity. The perfect place to unwind and recharge away from it all, but not so far that you can't reach a shop if you need it! Is there anything to improve? Nothing I can think of, if I was really pressed for something then I suppose I could say the beds might be a touch soft for some peoples taste but that's really it. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it or in coming back :-)

It is a log fire warmed tub, needs a lot of attention and we weren't around enough to keep the fire burning. Would agree with others that there could do with being another bathroom upstairs. • "We found this to be a spacious and well appointed property with a particularly well equipped kitchen."

We really enjoyed our stay. The decor is idiosyncratic, but that’s hardly a problem. It would probably be wise to flag up the rough nature of the access road a little more and the parking was not the easiest with the half buried boulders around the perimeter. Would we consider booking this again? Certainly.

  • "We have just enjoyed a lovely couple of nights at Skyfell."

The cottage was beautiful - spacious, clean, luxurious and had everything you could possibly need. The finishing touches were lovely too - the generous hamper and extra bits of food. Jerry the caretaker was on hand to help with any issues and even helped get oil for my car when it had run low! We would love to stay again and would definitely recommend :)

  • "From the moment we arrived the experience exceeded expectations."

The bumpy road was bumpier than expected, the rural location was more remote than expected- but most importantly the stay was perfect beyond expectations! If you’re looking for a complete escape from reality and the opportunity to relocate to Northern paradise, then you’ve found the place. Skyfell has been completed to an exceptional standard and with all the additions of a modern property. Space is ample and the small touches never ceased to amase us. From the hamper on arrival, to the historic references, to the the personal support from Hayley and her team. We never felt far from a helping hand but also never too close to the neighbours the other side of the reservoir! The property hosted opportunities for everyone to relax and unwind. Personally I enjoyed running around the reservoir first thing in the morning with a cup of coffee in the hot tub before everyone woke up. Whilst others made use of the therapeutically comfy beds and deep bath tubs. Whatever you need to relax, Skyfell can provide. Thank you to Hayley and her team for such a fabulous visit and for making the property a staycation haven. All the best with the rest of the season and we hope to see you in 2021!
