"Pencroft cottage lovely place to stay."
Plenty of space to spread out and we appreciated 3 ensuite rooms and plenty of space for parking. We stayed in summer and cottage remained nice and cool inside. Imagine would be cosy with the log burners in winter. Good pub a few minutes walk away and weekly mobile fish and chip van. Need a car to get to nearest shop so bring some essentials with you if you want a cuppa when you arrive as no milk was provided. Also bring your own dishwasher tablets. Some hooks in hall to hang coats would be a useful addition.

"Pencroft cottage is in a good quiet location, was very clean, spacious and had everything you wanted."
It was like home from home and we would recommend it to all. There is plenty to do and see in the area. We hope to visit again in the future

"The cottage is dark and gloomy inside with very little sunshine able to get through."
The electric heaters are old and ineffective and the stove fire too small to heat up the room.
It was much warmer outside than in!
Cottage is in a remote location but the pub/restaurant, which is in walking distance, was very good and the food excellent.
Mattresses could do with replacing as you can feel every spring.
Good amount of kitchen utensils and crockery and all in good condition.

"We had a lovely stay overall."
The cottage was really nice, looked exactly like the pictures, and was well presented throughout.
A couple of small points for feedback: the cottage felt quite cold at times, and we were conscious about using the heating after seeing the owners’ energy bill included in the information book. The toilet flusher in the double bedroom near the nook area appeared to have popped out, so we were reluctant to use it in case we made the issue worse. We also found that the shower in the double bedroom off the lounge had been left dripping, which meant the bath mat was soaking when we arrived.
Aside from these minor issues, we enjoyed our stay and appreciated the cottage’s charm and comfort.
A disappointing review of 3.0 after 23 reviews averaging 4.5.
The reception rooms are heated by night storage heaters and for summer months we leave it to the guests discretion to switch on the heating. There are also two stoves in the cottage with fuel provided. There is a note in the information pack requesting guests to switch off bathroom and bedroom heaters when not in use rather than leave them on 24/7.
The toilet flush and shower will both be inspected and rectified.

"Pencroft Cottage is in a great location for exploring the area."
The property is dated, but it's what we expected from the photos. It could do with some maintenance - the shower screen in the twin bed ensuite is broken and came off the rails (and it leaks a lot onto the floor), toilet flush & shower screen in the bedroom off the lounge need attention, one duvet had big holes in, mattresses could do with updating.
The property was not very clean - crockery needed washing, cobwebs everywhere, kitchen table was sticky, oven was dirty, and the flooring in less obvious places was dirty. The information booklet mentions a cleaning company being used, so this may be more a reflection on them.
A hairdryer would make a great addition - and if you need the off switch for the oven it's in the cupboard to the right of the oven, we spent ages looking for it as we had to reset the oven clock to be able to use it!

"Great location, really enjoyed the walks from the door and the lovely pub with excellent food."
The garden wasn't secure enough for our dog as she easily jumped the fence and wall but would be fine for a less active dog. The kitchen is very well equipped and the property is a good size. We found the property very cold on arrival and it took a long time to warm though, we were conscious about not leaving the heating on due to the notes left by the owner. The shower in the twin room was much better than the one in the double.

"We found Pencroft Cottage to be spacious, well equipped and comfortable."
It was spotlessly clean and tidy upon arrival. The cottage is located a 5 minute walk from the excellent "Wheatsheaf" Hotel and bar where the home cooked food on offer is so good - recommended but best to book a table in advance and is dog friendly. The village of Carperby is located with good access to many points of interest. The six of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Pencroft Cottage and would love to return.

"We had a fabulous stay at Pencroft Cottage."
It was very well equipped & all our needs were catered for. The cottage itself is beautiful & as we were 3 couples the 3 en-suite rooms were very welcome. It was a great base for touring the dales too.

"The cottage was lovely & had everything for a stay."
However the sofas were leather which were actually cold & also we kept sliding to middle of sofa when sitting on them. The tv was actually very small for the room & was not a smart tv so we were limited to the freeview channels available which are rubbish. If it had been a smart tv we could have accessed Netflix & prime etc. Although the area is described as dog friendly we actually it wasn’t that friendly. We found a lovely walk across fields with public footpaths but all the fields had either sheep or cows in meaning we had to keep our dog on a lead not so good for him as he couldn’t get a good run. The nearest takeaways were in Leyburn & we tried both the Indian & Chinese both were horrible & ended up with pizza from the co op but this isn’t a reflection on the cottage. The next door cottage also booked but we didn’t hear any noise from them so that was good.

"We really enjoyed our stay at Pencroft."
It's a very roomy, spacious accommodation with a nice garden area for sitting and enjoying the nice weather. Kitchen is well equipped. Our one slight complaint were the mattresses were too firm for us all. However,we really enjoyed our stay and the village of Caperby is lovely, with the Wheatsheaf Inn only a five minute walk away. I would recommend booking a table if you want to eat there as it is very popular. Also recommend visiting the town of Hawes and Bolton Castle is really worth the money to visit.
The accommodation has lots of recommendations for things to do in their file as well as lots of leaflets so you can find something for everyone around the area.

"There was a slight odour of Dogs in the bedroom next to the kitchen but it wasnt unbearable."
We had to shuffle the sideboard around to be able to sit at the dining table as it was much better possitioned off to side so we could all sit comfortably & there is only sofa space for 5 adults so one of us had to sit on a dining chair for the week in the evening. Unfortunatley we had no hot water in one of the ensuite rooms & kitchen for 2 days ( 2 other bedrooms still did so we managed) & the caretaker was fast to respond & a plumber repaired it during our stay. Having said that, the Cottage had all the basic facilities we needed, beds were comfortable & we had a great time & for the price over a bank holiday it was a great cottage.

"We had a nice stay in a very lovely cottage that was very clean, easy to live in and well kitted out with comfy sofas and beds."
Fantastic views and a woodpecker somewhere in the trees, lots of great pubs close by, lovely surrounding villages for walks. Easy parking on site but strangely there is no property sign from the road which made it difficult finding it the first time.
Ground floor is easy for less mobile people but not 100% suitable for wheelchair users unless they can also get out and walk a bit as you can't get wheelchairs 'fully' around the bedrooms, bathrooms or kitchen without moving furniture. If you can walk a bit too then there shouldn't be any issues at all.
We felt the property needed some usual little extras that normally come with self-catering properties – a welcome pack or at least a pint of milk, Visitor signing book for recommendations, some tourist information leaflets and maps for walks etc and just a small supply of games, books and jigsaws etc would be appreciated.
Overall it was a lovely property and its best feature to us was that it was very comfortable and we all slept really well.

"Very spacious accommodation."
Unfortunately there was a strong smell of dogs which the air fresheners could not mask. The twin bedded room was very cold and the bedroom with ensuite bath smelt awful. My husband dropped and smashed a glass container on the hard floor just inside the lounge door and when cleaning up the mess it became clear that the floor had not been cleaned properly in some time. My fingers stuck to the cooker hood it was so greasy.
On our first evening the smoke detector started to chirp
..so we took out the battery and reported the problem. We were told a new battery would be provided .
There was a lovely large dining table with a heat protector but no tablecloth.!
The storage heaters were very efficient once we had worked out how to use them.
Despite these drawbacks the cottage is in a peaceful setting well placed for visiting points of interest and we enjoyed our holiday.
