  • "Spent 2 nights at this lovely cottage for a walking weekend."

The place is modern, exceptionally clean and comfortable with excellent facilities including provisions of tea/coffee and wood for the wood burner. The Black Swan pub next door is also very convenient with great food and ales. You would have to drive or walk into Masham for more entertainment or shops/bars but is only a couple of miles away. I would definitely recommend the Swan cottage.

  • "Thank you for a great stay, we really enjoyed ourselves."

The cottage was lovely and we couldn’t have been made more welcome. The cottage was clean and ready for our arrival. Having the pub next door was very handy, the staff were very friendly and the food great as well as being well priced. It was a great base for exploring the Dales, with the moorland only a 10 minute drive and some great walking. A very enjoyable holiday and we will be back!

  • "Excellent stay in welcoming cottage."

Good walking all around, plus easy access to Masham. Pub adjoining the property serving very good food and beers. Easy parking directly outside the property and owners were friendly and accommodating.

  • "Stayed at this property to celebrate my Mum’s 50th birthday and we all had a wonderful time."

The property was clean but also cosy and warm. The beds and pillows were so comfy, we didn’t want to get out of them. The village of Fearby was so beautiful and the walks listed on the pub website were really enjoyable. We had food in the pub next door one night which was delicious, it was a welcoming place and the staff were really helpful. We also ventured into Masham, stopping for a coffee and looking around the historical market. I could not recommend this place enough and will certainly look to come back in the future. Thank you again!!

  • "The cottage was absolutely disgraceful, one of the double beds was broken and it had been stuffed with an old duvet to fill the gap,the other double bed had been repaired with a peice of wood."

The shower was disgusting and I have seen a better sofa in skips ,the drawers in the bedrooms were off the runners need I go on .This cottage should never be rented out!!!

  • "Property was great, well furnished & comfortable."

It might have been nice to have been supplied a welcome pack of the basic essentials, like milk & a small loaf say. The information folder was pretty sparse of just that, whilst the Web site gave you various opportunities for walking there were no maps in the folder that would have helped. All in all a great cottage to use as a base but help the user to appreciate what is on your doorstep.

  • "We had a great week here."

The cottage is owned by the pub next door, which was friendly and welcoming with great food (booking recommended) and good ale selection. There is a small caravan site at the back of the pub, which meant that the pub could be busy at times. However, the cottage was quiet enough and we were not disturbed by any noise from either the pub or site. The cottage was spacious and comfortable with everything needed for a week away from home. Nice area close enough to walk into Masham (about 15 minutes) and some nice walks nearby. Special mention to Scott at the pub who we collected the keys from. Nothing was too much trouble for him to make sure we enjoyed our stay!

  • "All in all very comfortable."

Having the lounge, kitchen and dining area as open plan was great as it meant everyone could still be together even when somebody was cooking. Excellent to have all the white goods in the kitchen including a washing machine which was unusual and useful. The kitchen would benefit from a larger saucepan or two and a sieve/colander.

Came here for the weekend with 2 friends, lots of space and all the bedrooms were nice. Everything you need and pub next door! Perfect!

  • "Some of the facilities I would expect were absent."

For example kitchen and cleaning equipment were missing. There was nothing to make coffee, with, no sieve or colander so cooking pasta is not possible and nothing to keep the place clean - there was no broom, mop or carpet cleaner

  • "Brilliant cottage!"

The provision of milk, coffee, tea and sugar on arrival was a nice unexpected touch. It was also brilliant that they provide both an information pack and fire wood, lighters etc for the wood burner.

Needed more towels one bath towel between 2 is not enough in this hot weather, a small hoover would have been handy . This cottage could do with sound proofing between it and hotel rooms on our first night we were kept awake with a baby crying for 2 hours and doors closing till 3.45am

  • "This is a lovely cottage, very cosy and clean."

Two of the bedrooms are quite small but adequate and the beds are comfortable with good bedding. The only downside was that the cottage adjoins a function room and there was a lot of noise on the Friday night which went on until late. We wish that we had been warned in advance. The pub owner said that the functions have to end at midnight, maybe future guests could be informed in the future. However, the pub is lovely and is handy to have next door, they offer breakfast and takeaway, wish we had known this in advance too. There is no WiFi as advertised in the cottage but you can get this in the pub.

  • "The only negative about this experience was a lack of Wi Fi coverage ( although we now know the area struggles with coverage )."

Availability of WiFi would have allowed us to google things to do in the area. The actual welcome and continued service from the Black Swan Staff throughout our stay added to the experience. The cottage itself was exceptionally clean and well presented. This is the first time we have used Sykes and the experience has left an excellent impression that will no doubt end in future bookings.
