Squint Cottage

We love Squint Cottage.

The location is perfect, being right in the square at Grassington and it is very well equipped. There is a lovely large lounge, good size bedroom with a very comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen and a lovely shower in the bathroom. Thank you for the amazing towels too. Great to wrap them all around you. We usually got a parking space in the square, but it is hit and miss, but thank you for the sheep parking permit for the main carpark. That came in very handy this weekend when it was the 40's weekend. We did have a bit of trouble regulating the heating. It came on in the bedroom when we didn't want it but we couldn't turn it off. The two mobile numbers that Sykes put on their emails for us to contact if needed, didn't work. The first one came back as a wrong number and the second wasn't answered. Luckily we didn't need them for anything important. We love Squint so much we've already booked for next year. Thank you

This is a cosy and comfortable cottage in a beautiful village.

Grassington is an amazing town and Squint Cottage is perfect for weeks stay.

The cottage is ideally place right in the heart of the town with shops and restaurants/pubs on the doorstep. Everything about the accommodation was well thought out with everything on the ground flour (no stairs to claim)

Squint Cottage was a gem of a find and just perfect for our first visit to Grassington.

We found the cottage very welcoming, spotlessly clean and had everything we needed making it feel like home from home which made our week long stay comfortable and relaxing. We loved that the cottage was situated a few short steps from the village square and a variety of walks practically on its doorstep.

My wife and I loved our stay at the Squint Cottage - so much so we looked to book again for her Birthday in December (already booked sadly, but we will be back!

). The cottage had everything needed for a short stay and the parking was a bonus. It's so handy for the local pubs, restaurants and shops. Despite being right on the square it's very quiet and peaceful. There's a number of walks you can do directly from the cottage. We had a lovely day waling along to the river to the Red Lion in Burnsall.

Squint Cottage is a fantastic property ideally located for exploring Grassington and the Yorkshire Dales.

The layout, cleanliness and quality of finish in the cottage is exceptional and we really enjoyed our stay. Parking is simple using the pass for the visitor centre car park which is only a five minute walk away (thank you Ewelie!!)

As this was our 3rd visit we were happy as always

Squint Cottage has to be one of the best located cottages in the centre of Grassington (or Darrowby as it is known in James Herriots ACGAS) a few feet from the beautiful village square and opposite "The Drovers" it is a gem of a find, very comfy and clean with everything you need for a stay in the beautiful dales.

There is a huge fireplace with a great log burner and as the weather was not that good during our stay it was lovely to have extra logs and kindling delivered to us. Would definitely book again if in that area.

Beautiful property, great to be right in the middle of lovely Grassington village.

Lots of beautiful walks locally , and with good local bus service no need to move the car all week. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful, well‑appointed, clean accommodation.

Lovely village, too. Nice choice of pubs. Very handy NISA general store within a stone's throw. Parking not great and, although we were warned, the logistics for the parking were not totally clear from the instructions, but we eventually worked it out. Could have done with latitude/longitude information on the parking areas that were being referred to. Also could have mentioned that you are allowed to park for 2 hours on the cobbles in the village centre between 08:00 and 18:00 (54.07220362401921, -1.9975860492879522). The parking permit is for the Grassington National Park Visitor Centre car park (54.06989102860779, -1.9971612090702247). There are no nice views from the actual accommodation (apart from looking out towards the village car park), but as a base for getting out and enjoying the surrounding countryside and general area, this accommodation was ideal.

The property itself is of a good standard.

However the settee and chair were extremely uncomfortable to sit for any length of time and needs to be addressed. The bed and bedding were lovely and comfortable and heating of the property couldn’t fault. My only complaint is that the work outside in the square should have been brought to our attention and we should have been given an option to change dates. It spoilt our break. I sent a message to the owner and never received a response. Overall bitterly disappointed and came home a day earlier.

Excellent accommodation but really annoyed and disappointed that the cottage was advertised for seven nights but the final information gave us six nights and we had to leave a day earlier than expected and had to look for alternative accommodation at extra expense as we had made arrangements to stay in the area.

We notice that the listing is still for seven days.

Despite the major necessary water work activity affecting the whole village, the early morning digger activity and the stress of trying to bring a car through a system of board covered trenches after watching a van get stuck as one wheel slipped into the trench, I had another lovely time at Squint Cottage.

I’ve rebooked for January and October - it really is a lovely get away for me and perfect location to chill, relax and refocus.

What an amazing cottage in a stunning village.

The cottage has everything you need and is spotlessly clean. There are beautiful walks straight from your doorstep. Excellent pubs and restaurants less than a minute’s walk away. We had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend!!

This was the second time staying at Squint Cottage and hope to do again next year.

As soon as you walk in you feel at home. The living room has a very comfy sofa, huge fireplace with a log burner, and large TV. The kitchen has everything you need for your stay, even a dishwasher and microwave. The bathroom is big with a very nice shower over the big bath. Lovely to stretch out in for a nice soak and the shower/bath gel is provided, plenty of bubbles. The bedroom is so nice with a very comfy king-size bed and even a tv so you can relax and watch it in bed if you want to. You are on holiday after all. The probable downside is parking. You have to be lucky to park in the square, which we were most evenings, but if you can't you are given a parking permit to park in the nearby carpark. The other upside of course is that you are only over the square from the Devonshire, the great Indian restaurant and takeaway and amazing fish and chips. Other pubs and tearooms are available. You don't have to worry about driving home. All in all the best place to stay.

The cottage was lovely.

Everything was of good quality. It was in the perfect location overlooking the village square. We would highly recommend and would definitely stay again if we were visiting the area.

We loved Squint Cottage, it is ideally placed just off the market square handy for shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs but set slightly back so quiet too.

It is beautifully kept property with everything you could need. Grassington village and surrounding countryside are really lovely. We will definitely return.

Squint Cottage is exceptional……beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and in a perfect location.

The owners, Simon and Elise, have thought of everything! We hardly had to move the car as there were lots of lovely walks from the village. Plenty of eateries, including a lovely little Indian restaurant! We definitely will be rebooking for next year!

We found the heating difficult to control in manual, even after reading the instructions.

At times it was a little chilly in the rooms . Although the furniture was in keeping with the period of the property, we felt the sofa was past its best , being very low and the cushions worn out . Overall the Cottage was well presented and in a good location.

The cottage is very well equipped, warm and extremely comfortable. The owners have thought of everything to make the stay as enjoyable as possible. We would definitely visit again!

A nice cottage, set adjacent to the marketplace/square.

My only slight criticism would be that there could be more utilities in the kitchen, but then the kitchen is very small.

We had the most wonderful pre-Christmas break at this gorgeous cottage.

Squint Cottage is beautiful, everything is of high quality from the bedding and pillows down to the furnishings.

Very comfy and cosy place to spend evenings in front of the log burner with a glass of wine, literally minutes walking distance to the heart of the village with plenty of little shops, cafes and pubs all serving good food and drink. Parking permit was a great added bonus to the cottage with only a 5 minute walk away. We had a great 5 nights stay and will return again.

The advert speaks for itself, the cottage is fabulous, clean, comfy & warm, someone did point out in an earlier comment that the trick is to walk into the lounge first thing to activate the radiators which will switch themselves of if no movement is detected in the room.

What a great idea. Don’t think you could be disappointed at all. Also important is the location, we visited at the onset of Autumn, when all the leaves are starting to turn their winter colours. Would imagine it would be just as lovely, but different, during all other seasons. Car park is a lot handier than we imagined, it looked a trek on the map but it’s only a short, pleasant walk from the cottage and it’s also where you can catch the bus into Skipton and a few other destinations. On the way to the car park it’s likely you’ll come across ”Chuffers”, he’s a lovely ginger cat who sets himself up on the bench by the cottages on the way, he just seems as though he’s there to pose for photos. The local pubs we found extremely friendly with good choices of food and we tried them all. The little cafe directly on the cottage doorstep, is Cobblestone Cafe and they’ll look after you with smashing food as well as all the local knowledge of the village. Out and about in the car, there are some nice little villages scattered about with pubs and cafes to feed you up, but beware, to get to some of them, using satnav, be prepared for a lot of single track roads which could slow your journey down a bit, but well worth it all in the long run. We’d recommend this Cottage, and all it’s surroundings, wholeheartedly. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit.

Squint cottage was perfect.

Not only was it warm and inviting but loved being on the square In Grassington and close to all the pubs and shops. The cottage is also a wonderful home base for site seeing in the Dales. I highly recommend Squint cottage!!

A charming cottage in a lovely location.

Facilities in the village are excellent with a wide variety to choose from.

We loved Squint Cottage from the moment we entered.

The living room so cosy even though we didn't need the fire. The kitchen was well equipped, could almost say over equipped, but disappointed nowhere to put the food we brought with us. We managed though, just put it on the counter. The bathroom was lovely too and the towels so big and soft....just what you want when you get out of the shower. The bed was okay for us but some might think too soft. Could do with a chest of drawers or similar to put clothes. I just put them all at the bottom of the wardrobe. The wardrobe was the only problem as it was stiff to open and the handles came off every time. I just left it slightly open all the time. That hasn't put us off though as hope to book it again next year.

A fabulous stay at Squint Cottage which felt immediately comfortable and homely.

Our only negative point was no cupboard in the kitchen for food storage, but we meade good use of the Supermarket over the road and the bakers for regular top ups as well as eating out. Beautiful walks from the doorstep, easy free parking a 5 min walk away, amazing countryside on day trips out and plenty of places to eat or grab a drink in the lovely sleepy village.

Squint Cottage was absolutely delightful and we would thoroughly recommend it.

We would be very happy to return here as well. A lovely little cottage, plenty of room for 2 people. Very nicely refurbished with modern fittings in kitchen and bathroom and yet retaining the original charm, particularly in the lounge and bedroom. Parking in the public car park was easier than expected and works fine.

This cottage is a real gem.

We were absolutely delighted with its location, cleanliness and facilities available and right in the heart of Grassington itself. We had a fantastic 3 days holiday and could not have chosen a better place to stay than Squint Cottage. We feel totally relaxed and will come back again as soon as we can. I would also like you to remove my previous feedback made at the time I was too ill to travel to Grassington. It should not reflect in any way upon this cottage or their owners as I was hoping Sykes Holidays could give us a discount on re-booking due to illness.

Well appointed with easy access to shops and eating places.

Property in good condition,clean and warm. Spacious and comfortable lounge space with large TV and access to several channels. Bed comfy. One of the best cottages we have stayed in over the years.

Lovely cottage in a great location.

Felt cool on arrival but soon warmed up and was extremely cosy. (The secret is to pop into the lounge when you first awaken and trigger the sensor on the radiator). Bed is so comfortable. Everything you could want in a lovely village. Our 4th visit to this cottage, and we hope to return.

Excellent location, cottage was fantastic, form the log fire taking off an evening chill, to the good TVs that enable you to relax the hard walk, and centrally to pub for a pint and a meal.

Lovely place, lovely village, lovely situation

Overall we enjoyed our break at Squint Cottage, great location in the centre of Grassington.

We manged to park in the market square rather than the car park. Cottage was clean, the bed was comfy and the sofas were comfy too although very low. Couple of pointers the welcome pack was a nice touch but could have done with some bread for the jams and cleaning pointers the microwave was dirty and the loo brush was dirty, all easy to rectify. We hope to revisit

Squint cottage is one of the best we have stayed in.

The location is perfect, so quiet for sleeping. Lots of places to eat & drink. Great walks we loved it. Bus to skipton couple of minutes walk. Wish we could of stayed longer.

Beautifully decorated and absolutely immaculate, it had everything we needed. Great location in the center of Grassington but still quiet and peaceful. We really enjoyed popping for a pint after a days walking, 3 great pubs within a minute’s walk, coming back and lighting the wood burner. Perfect!
