  • "Quiet location."

    Front of property a real sun trap. Plenty of room for the two of us. Lack of heating apart from wood burner and fan heater in the lounge may have been a problem had the weather not been so kind. A few annoying flies. Fly spray would have been useful. Overall a very pleasant stay in a beautiful part of the country.

  • "A great location - great for walking, local shop and 3 pubs and 2 cafes/tea rooms within walking distance."

    Peaceful too and enjoyed sitting on the bench and looking at the view . Cottage was smaller than I had expected. We were a party of 5 adults so it was a bit of a squeeze. Ideal for no more than 4 I would suggest.

  • "Kettlewell is beautiful and a great base."

    The barn itself is quite well maintained but smaller than the photos suggest and it’s quite expensive for what it is. It was a squash for all five of us. Parking is a squeeze for two vehicles too. The downstairs smelled strongly of damp but it was clean. Some additional tea towels, a cafetière and enough matching mugs for everyone would be welcome.

    The property details do suggest the occupancy is better suited to 4 adults but we will highlight that more. Also the parking details have been updated. New heating installed in October throughout means the cottage is warm and damp free. There’s a new cafetière too. Property Owner

  • "The cottage, facilities, quality of bed linen etc top quality."

    The photo of the barn a little deceiving as it implies that the cottage is almost on its own. Parking is precarius especially with a larger car. However, we will return i 2026 as we loved Kettlewell

  • "Lovely cottage very well decorated and very clean."

    It is a lot smaller than it looks in the photographs as there were only two of us it was OK . The door opens directly onto the lane the court yard has a separate entrance, quite a lot of vehicles use it so had to be careful with our dogs. I only found the hairdryer at the end of our holiday because it was in the cupboard with the vacuum cleaner would have beeen better in one of the bedroom drawers.It would also have been useful to have a sweeping brush. Kettlewell is a beautiful village with wonderful walks.

    Glad you enjoyed the cottage and Kettlewell. Unfortunately the byway outside the door can get busy so you do have to be careful. It's difficult to know where to put the hairdryer but it now lives in an alcove on the landing so people can see it (hopefully)! There is a dustpan and brush in the kitchen cupboard. Property Owner

  • "The size of the property and the parking were not what I expected from the photos or descriptions."

    The barn was well equipped but much less spacious than it looked online. It felt damp when we first arrived and there were lots of wood lice in the bathrooms. Really comfortable beds and lovely bedding and towels.

  • "The cottage was in lovely condition in a beautiful village."

    However, it was much smaller than expected as the photos make it look far more spacious. It's position is on the corner of 2 narrow roads making it very close to traffic. Local vans from neighbours came past the door fast so extremely dangerous for children, or in my case my Spaniel. Parking was difficult on the cobbled area at the back and we struggled with 2 cars, one being on the road all the time. Indoors, the stairs are steep and not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Possibly this could be mentioned in the details. Kitchen was lovely, a few additional items would be good. Larger glasses for water/ beer. Only 4 wine glasses, possibly a few more. More mugs would be good, large serving spoons, a ladle too. A hand blender would be useful. Alexa and coffee machine and additional dog towels were great although I always bring my own. Lights above cooker needed new batteries, it was quite dark cooking. The sofas were very comfortable, what make are they? The double and super king beds were super comfortable and the bedding lovely. The twin beds, my adult daughter used one and it was very uncomfortable and no support for an adult. I appreciate these are maybe for children but we were an all adult party. Also some more comfortable garden chairs maybe fold up for ease of storage. The courtyard lovely for al fresco dining and enclosed for the dog. Location to the village is lovely, 3 pubs in walking distance, all super friendly and dogs allowed in which is always a bonus. We had a fabulous week in a beautiful area and lucky with all day sunshine.

Sometimes the traffic on the byway outside the door can be intermittently fast but it is local rural traffic on a tiny byway and single track road outside. Obviously care still needs to be taken as you say. The parking actually extends past the cobbled area so the details of that have been updated on the property description. All items you mention to add to the kitchen have been added so thank you for the suggestions. The cooker lights are now working again and a new kitchen ceiling light has been added so should make it lighter. The property details have been changed to accommodating 4 adults (rather than 6).   • "Looking at the pictures we thought it would be bigger and more remote than it was."

    When all five of us were there it was a little cramped in the kitchen but when it was just my wife and I it was really good. However, the lack of an area to dry down our dog or put wet weather gear to one side when entering the property, was rather a drawback. Thankfully we had good weather all week except for some low cloud one morning. Overall, we enjoyed our holiday- A great place with facilities nearby.

Agree there is little space to to put wet dogs or boots but short of building a porch (very strict planning regs in the Park) there's little to be done.   • "Overall the Barn was great, perfect for three adults and a dog."

    Clean and comfortable, and a fantastic quiet location on the edge of the village, with lots of walks from the doorstep. On the downside, the storage heater in the main bedroom wasn't working (the little fan heater was useful) - and we couldn't find an indoor sweeping brush to sweep the kitchen floor! But these minor things aside, everything was satisfactory.

    Glad you enjoyed Battery Barn. We have installed new heating in October 2025 so the cottage is warm and cosy now all the time. The dustpan and brush is in the kitchen cupboard near the door. Property Owner

  • "Lovely comfortable beds, good white goods in kitchen (dishwasher, washing machine, oven, fridge and freezer), good range of crockery, cutlery and pans."

    Smart TV with ability for prime, Netflix, but sometimes TV unresponsive to remote control which was frustrating. Wi-Fi great and I managed to work remotely which was a great help. Great log burner and thank you for complementary wood and coal, a life saver as some of the room heaters didn’t work properly (the one in the super king room didn’t come on at all, the upstairs bathroom one didn’t work at all, the one in the king room was inconsistent,either cool or bakingly hot!) Towels very fluffy but bedding, although comfortable didn’t feel particularly freshly laundered. Disappointing that parking was not directly outside the property, although only a short walk behind on a main road. Owners very responsive to questions, although I felt they were irritated in their response when I asked if there was the option for a change of bedding for the super king (as it didn’t smell very fresh).

    We have installed new heating in October 2025 so the cottage is warm and cosy at all times now. The laundry is laundered at a commercial laundry every change-over so is always fresh. However the logistics and cost to have the cleaner (who is not local) go and do another change of laundry for one bed was prohibitive. Property Owner

  • "Very nice cottage in a beautiful location, Bed very comfortable."

    Heating set to ambient temperature, if it had been freezing outside may have struggled to keep warm. Log burner great but could do with enough wood to last the week, happy to pay extra to cover the cost. Stayed in many cottages in upper wharfedale over the past thirty years and this rates as one of the best. Thanks for a lovely holiday.

  • "Great location for walking in a quiet village with great pubs."

    The cottage was comfortable, especially the bed, and warm. We didn’t give it 5 stars because kitchen equipment is basic (more mugs needed, bare minimum of sharp knives and utensils) and no hairdryer. Also if it had been wet there’s nowhere to take off muddy boots and wet kit without getting the kitchen wet and muddy. It was a great size for 2 of us and a small dog. You would struggle with 6 people especially in the kitchen/dining. A bench outside for de-booting would be a lovely addition. The 2nd floor bathroom night storage heater didn’t work.

    Thanks for your feedback. We've just ordered a knife block and there was a hairdryer at the property so will ask the cleaner to check it's still there. The number of mugs etc was as advised by the management company but happy to provide more if that's important to guests. We assume there was enough for you being just a couple. We are also replacing the bathroom heaters with towel rails over the next month. We like your bench suggestion as well. As far as we know we haven't struggled with 6 people occupancy of which there's been a few but thank you for your concern. Property Owner

  • "Kettlewell is a beautiful village, the accommodation was good however there was an infestation of woodlice which was very off putting."

  • "Family of 2 adults and 2 children with 2 dogs."

    Battery Barn was lovely, very homely. Thank you for the cake, it’s was delicious. Kitchen was well equipped although a grill rack would be a good addition. Sofas were very comfortable and the smart TV great for Netflix. The beds were all amazing with the main bed being the best we’ve ever slept on! The court yard was great to sit in, it was lovely weather during our stay, a parasol would’ve been really handy but we improvised with an umbrella! The barn is in a fabulous location for walks and pubs. We didn’t move the car for the whole stay. Would thoroughly recommend Battery Barn to anyone.

Nestling at the foot of Great Whernside, near the head of Upper Wharfedale, this idyllic village makes the perfect place from which to explore the wonderful scenery and pretty villages of this magnificent Dale. Much of Upper Wharfedale is National Trust owned - an indication of the beauty of its classic countryside, with dry-stone walls and barns, important flower-rich hay meadows and valley side woodland. Undoubtedly, this is one of the best walking and mountain biking areas in the Dales, with The Dales Way passing nearby. The village itself lying on the banks of the River Wharfe is a real delight with traditional built stone cottages, three pubs, a Post Office, speciality shops and a hotel. No surprise that the hit movie Calendar Girls was filmed here and in other locations throughout the area. An excellent base for enjoying the famous Dales, historic market towns, caves and waterfalls of this magical area.
