Dales cottage was lovely. Arrived to find a lovely bottle of prosecco, fruit cake and big bag of kettle crisps which had been left for us which we didn’t expect. Lovely family size kitchen with AGA cooker which kept the cottage warm. Cozy living room with log burner. We bought our own logs/kindling/firefighters etc but didn’t really need to as there was plenty there already. Loads of dvds and games for the kids and books on the local area. Master bedroom had an on suite shower/toilet so was perfect for us as we were sharing cottage with my parents. The main bathroom was situated right next to their bedroom so we didn’t have any queues of a morning. There was also a downstairs toilet in the utility room. Our 2 children stayed in the loft room which was spacious and very warm. Didn’t realise that there was a pull out bed under one of the singles so we could have brought my husbands grandson but we’ll know for next time. The fountains pub which is a 2 minute drive away served home cooked food and real ales. We came the 2nd week in December and went to the Dickensian festival on the Saturday and Sunday which is 20 minute walk away. Well worth a visit. Very Christmassy. Lots of carol singing, brass band and candlelight walk at 4pm. The 3 main pubs in the grassington village were very busy because of the festival so we couldn’t get a table during the day but there were plenty of cafes and stalls selling hot food so we weren’t put off. We also went to Haworth which is Brontë Country. 40 min drive away. Well worth a visit and very picturesque as it snowed whilst we were there. Overall we loved the cottage and the Yorkshire Dales. Would definitely recommend. We took our dog buddy and I’m sure he would recommend too.

The property

Set over three floors, with a homely AGA, woodburning stove and bright, spacious bedrooms, it is the perfect choice for families and friends exploring the Yorkshire Dales.

The ground floor is made up of a large, comfortable kitchen where you can sit around the table and discuss the day’s adventures while tasty meals are being prepared.

After a good meal, and a long walk, everyone can retire to the sitting room and relax by the woodburner whilst you decide where to explore next.

On the first floor are two good-sized bedrooms, one with a lovely en-suite with a large walk-in shower, as well as a family bathroom.

Up on the second floor, in a fantastic loft space enjoying pretty views of the river from the eaves window, are twin beds and an additional pull-out stacker bed for flexibility.

Outside the cottage is pure tranquillity, where you can often hear beautiful birdsong and the river as it rushes by.

You can easily walk down to the picturesque Linton Falls, or venture into Threshfield for a bite to eat at the local pub.

About the location

THRESHFIELD

Grassington 1 mile; Skipton 7 miles.

Threshfield is a small village in Upper Wharfedale bordering the nearby villages of Grassington, Linton, Hetton, Cracoe and Rylstone, home of the famous ‘Calendar Girls’. Threshfield is a thriving local community. A few minutes walk away is Grassington, one of the most charming villages in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, where you will find traditional stone cottages, galleries, restaurants and shops, which are clustered around the cobbled market place, plus a monthly farmers' market provides a mouthwatering range of organic and homemade local produce. Visitors can experience the delight of both the Grassington Festival held in June and the Dickensian Festival during December – both well worth a visit. Situated on the River Wharfe, with the extensive Grass Woods to the north of the village, this is a superb walking area. Down dale is Bolton Abbey, the Priory and the famous “Strid Walk”, whilst a little further away is the elegant town of Ilkley, overlooked by the famous Ilkley Moor, plus up dale are Kettlewell and Buckden boasting spectacularly beautiful limestone scenery. With many other beauty spots scattered throughout Wharfedale, Threshfield provides a great base for exploring the local area and all that the Dales have to offer, with Brontë Country and York also being within easy motoring distance.
