  • "We have 2 comments to make."

The photograph of the stairs is blatantly mis-leading. You can see a hand-rail on the stairs but it does not show the steep turn at the top of the stairs (where there is no hand-rail). This caused a real problem as my wife is slightly disabled and she found coping with the situation extremely distressing. The unsuitability of the stairs for those with any infirmity should be made clear on the web-site. A note on this point was left in the cottage for the owner. Also, when we arrived I phoned the owner to clarify the wi-fi situation. I was told there was no w-fi facility. This confused me as we would not have booked otherwise (as I told the owner). I assumed I had made a mistake but on returning home I looked again at the description on the web-site and it clearly states that wi-fi is available! We have been misled and are very disappointed. The question below asks whether we want this feedback published. In the circumstances it would be more appropriate if you gave the owner the opportunity to consider the position.

Thank you for taking the time to provide a review on Teal Cottage. Our cottage is marketed through Skyes Cottages . There is nothing on the Sykes website advertising the cottage which suggests the cottage has wi-fi. We cannot be held responsible if a booking is made through another website over which we have no control of the content. Perhaps with respect you should raise your complaint with them and we will be asking Sykes to establish where the booking came from and what steps they can to take to ensure accuracy. The cottage as accurately described identifies it is over 3 storeys . In the circumstances it may have been appropriate to make further enquiries about the suitability of the property for your specific needs before booking it. Under the circumstances I would hope you will feel able to revise the review left for my cottage . Kate Property Owner

  • "Only mugs and wine glasses no glasses for water, egg cups, tea cups&no freezer"

Thankyou for suggested list of items to add to the cottage inventory. You will appreciate the difficulty of meeting everyone’s culinary needs. We discussed the lack of a freezer on your arrival and on departure you accepted a direct payment for spoiled food. There had been water glasses which it seems had been broken or removed. This had not been notified to us so we hadn’t had an opportunity to replace them. This has now been rectified so thanks for bringing it to our attention. Likewise the property now has eggcups. • "A freezer or freezer compartment would have been nice."

As 80 year olds the bathroom wasn’t exactly convenient but then we were informed it was on the second floor. Pity you couldn’t have provided better weather

  • "Nice property."

Comfortable but would have preferred larger seat but I know difficult to fit in. All facilities were good. Broadband would have been nice due to poor phone signal, but not a major issue. Heating worked well. House was clean and decorated to high spec. We enjoyed our time here.

  • "A lovely place for the two of us to use as a base to explore the Wensleydale area."

We arrived in the middle of a storm and was such a comfort to arrive at. We went walking to find waterfalls and the history of the area. We will definitely be back.

About the location

MIDDLEHAM

Leyburn 2.5 miles; Richmond 12 miles.

The attractive Wensleydale town of Middleham is renowned for its history and race horses. Much of the history is bound up with its Norman castle, which dates from 1190 and has a castle keep second in size only to the Tower of London. The horses are a great sight as they make their way to the gallops every morning. The pretty market square is partially cobbled and offers a range of shops, pubs and places to eat. The bustling market town of Leyburn is just a short drive away offering a variety of great shops and pubs, or why not take some time to explore The Forbidden Corner, a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers and surprises set amidst 4 acres of grounds, providing a fun day out for all the family? All in all a superb base for exploring Wensleydale and all within easy driving distance of York, the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales and Heritage Coast.
