  • “If you want a holiday that takes you away from the hustle and bustle of life then a week in Barn Cottage is the perfect option.”

Beautiful location with stunning views across Bishopdale, the cottage has everything you need, whatever the weather. Inside you’ll find really well furnished, well thought out spotlessly clean rooms. The window seat in the living room is perfect for whiling away the time during the day with the focus changing to the wood burner once darkness falls. Upstairs is a big master bedroom with a really comfortable super king size bed, a second bedroom and bathroom. Shops in nearby West Burton and Aysgarth have essentials but with Campbell’s just 7 miles away in Leyburn you aren’t too far away from a great selection of food and drink. The butcher in West Burton has the most amazing, locally reared lamb and definitely worth seeking out. Some great walks on the doorstep and with Wensleydale just over the hill there is plenty to keep you busy within a short drive.

The property

This characterful stone cottage is set in a peaceful location within the picturesque village of Newbiggin in the heart of Bishopdale.

This cottage is ideally located for walking, cycling, and visiting the many local attractions and historical sites.

Relax in the beautifully planted cottage garden and enjoy cosy evenings in beside the fire.

There are two pubs within walking distance of the cottage and there is an excellent range of amenities in the nearby market towns of Leyburn and Hawes.

The open plan lounge/dining area is spacious and charming.

The oak beams, exposed stone walls, multi-fuel stove, comfy sofas and tasteful décor create an inviting and cosy ambiance.

Enjoy stunning views through the arched window from the window seat and dining table.

The country-style kitchen is well equipped with all the essentials and features an oil-fired Rayburn as well as an electric oven and hob.

Off the kitchen is an annex, with a separate entrance for storage and somewhere to leave muddy boots and coats.

The spiral staircase with its arched window leads to two bedrooms and a bathroom.

The bathroom is fitted with quality modern fixtures and the bedrooms are well appointed with contemporary soft furnishings of a very good standard.

The large master bedroom has a super-king bed, dressing table, built-in wardrobes and a seating area ideal to enjoy morning coffee whilst admiring the outlook over hills and the village.

The second bedroom is warm and inviting with a lovely aspect over the garden.

The zip and link bed can be set up either as a king or twin room.

Outside, beside the kitchen is a patio ideal for dining alfresco and stone stairs lead up to a lovely private cottage garden with a further patio.

Guests wishing to lock away cycles are welcome to use the shed.

A lovely cottage for exploring the area.

About the location

NEWBIGGIN

Leyburn 7 miles; Hawes 9 miles.

In lower Bishopdale, where the glacial moraine and drumlins cause small undulations in the landscape, the village of Newbiggin nestles close to the valley floor on the south side of the dale. Although Newbiggin means 'New Buildings', the term is relative since here are some of the finest examples of 17th century dwellings in the Dales. This pretty and ancient village in the heart of Wensleydale is situated in truly beautiful countryside, with old stone cottages set out in a long line through a minor road that wends its way through the village. This is a walker's paradise, with wonderful Dales countryside, magnificent views and the small, but spectacular Cauldron Falls still delighting visitors since the days when the great artist, J M W Turner, captured its watery magic. The local pub is set on the outskirts of the village and serves fine ales and excellent homemade cuisine. There is also an excellent range of amenities in the nearby market towns of Hawes and Leyburn.
