  • "In the 55 years we have stayed in holiday cottages Barn Cottage is one of the best."

All modern facilities but retaining the timeless feel of rural North Yorkshire. Weather was dreadful but we were warm inside. The visit was to celebrate my sister’s 80th birthday, she had a great time. Lovely meal at the Street Head as always. Thank you.

Being a village with no through road made it an attractive stay with little traffic.Walking distance was a very good pub and at a sllightly larger walking distance, about 2 miles, was the beautiful village of West Burton, with a shop and pub. The farm shop on the road to leyburn was a superb find too.We travelled around a lot but decided we had made the best choice of villages to stay in the area.

It is warm, comfortable and well equipped. The window seat is a great place to sit, read and make the most of the countryside views. Although in a very quiet location there are a variety of good walks from the door and you are a short drive from some of the more well-known Dales villages. We would return.

  • "This is a very nice cottage in lots of aspects ."

It was in a lovely quiet location with ample room for parking . The beds were comfortable and it was very clean . The one room that let it down was the kitchen . The owners had decided not to use the AGA ( don’t really blame them it must be very expensive) but compared to the rest of the cottage which was lovely and warm it made it cold . There is a cooker which was fine and it did warm the kitchen up when in use . I wouldn’t really recommend it for 2 couples as there is no wardrobe space in the second bedroom. There were 2 of us and it was great . There is a fabulous pub just down the road and walks from your door . The kitchen hasn’t really put us off as we had a lovely time and would go back .

The cottage is nicely warm and suitable for autumn/winter stays. We were able to get our two eBikes into the shed which was good as sometimes the promised 'lockable bike storage' is unusable for adult bikes. In summary we would stay again.

It kept its traditional interior with modern facilities, just what we were looking for. The shower was fantastic, the bed extremely comfortable and all rooms were spacious. The location was perfect also. A five minute walk to the nearest pub and signposted walks outside the cottage. The pub serves fantastic food and a variety of beverages. The owner and staff are very friendly and it has an open fire which was a bonus. The cottage is ideally located for beautiful scenic walks and within driving distance of most places of interest. Fantastic 360 degree views from the cottage, just made the whole break relaxing.

A credit to the cleaner. Location perfect, neighbours very friendly with a lovely vibe. Only one problem for us was lack of space to sit outside due to lack of garden space. Maybe if back patio area was cleared from some of the shrubs it would allow more comfort. As it was too many flys and insects mithering you. Beds extremely comfortable with good views from the arched window in the sitting room.

Thanks for your feedback. We have tidied the garden up a bit. The garden is a small Cottage style garden. It has a good sized patio area with an outdoor dining table and seating for four. The rest of the garden is full of shrubs and flowers, is popular with the birds and bees, and does burst into colour in the summer. There is no lawn area. Please see the pictures. Property Owner

Nice views from a big window downstairs over fields, easy walking distance to a reasonable pub (didn't try their food, so can't comment on that). The location is good, all sorts of things within a reasonable drive. Owner was really helpful - had a call just before to say the boiler had broken and refunding two days straight away. Boiler was fixed just before we arrived on the Friday (but might have needed people in to fix it on the Saturday). These things happen, and what you want is somebody on it fast.

Great view from the big window and peaceful. The settees were a bit dirty and did smell a little but rest was clean. Could do with a bigger garden area for a bigger table and chairs for sunny evening to sit out. Would stay there again. Great location to explore the Dales.

Thank you for your feedback, We don't recognise the comments regarding the settees which are in excellent condition and cleaned on each changeover. However, we have doubled checked them. We are restricted by what is a small cottage garden, and only have sufficient space for a small patio just big enough for a table and four chairs. A further seating area is available alongside the cottage. Property Owner

Beautiful location with stunning views across Bishopdale, the cottage has everything you need, whatever the weather. Inside you’ll find really well furnished, well thought out spotlessly clean rooms. The window seat in the living room is perfect for whiling away the time during the day with the focus changing to the wood burner once darkness falls. Upstairs is a big master bedroom with a really comfortable super king size bed, a second bedroom and bathroom. Shops in nearby West Burton and Aysgarth have essentials but with Campbell’s just 7 miles away in Leyburn you aren’t too far away from a great selection of food and drink. The butcher in West Burton has the most amazing, locally reared lamb and definitely worth seeking out. Some great walks on the doorstep and with Wensleydale just over the hill there is plenty to keep you busy within a short drive.

About the location

Leyburn 7 miles; Hawes 9 miles.

In lower Bishopdale, where the glacial moraine and drumlins cause small undulations in the landscape, the village of Newbiggin nestles close to the valley floor on the south side of the dale. Although Newbiggin means 'New Buildings', the term is relative since here are some of the finest examples of 17th century dwellings in the Dales. This pretty and ancient village in the heart of Wensleydale is situated in truly beautiful countryside, with old stone cottages set out in a long line through a minor road that wends its way through the village. This is a walker's paradise, with wonderful Dales countryside, magnificent views and the small, but spectacular Cauldron Falls still delighting visitors since the days when the great artist, J M W Turner, captured its watery magic. The local pub is set on the outskirts of the village and serves fine ales and excellent homemade cuisine. There is also an excellent range of amenities in the nearby market towns of Hawes and Leyburn.

Property accepts adults only.
