  • "Pickwood Grange is a very spacious and well equipped property."

    The rooms are clean and well maintained. David the host was very accommodating and explained all the facilities. We all loved the hot tub and spacious garden. Extra touches of wine and fruit platter were much appreciated.

  • "Property was absolutely fantastic, extremely well equipped, amazing tv in lounge, beautiful location, superb full fruit bowl left for us, great dry room and especially handy for after using the hot tub Shower wasn’t particularly hot, but they may have been a user error!"

    My only real slight negative was garden wasn’t completely secure for the dogs but I believe that will be rectified as it looked like more work was going to take place

    Hi Jayne Happy to see that your stay was an enjoyable one and that you found everything you needed in the house. You are right in so far that once I can get the final piece of landscaping finished the top section on the garden area around the hot tub and patio will also be dog secure. Of course the large fenced garden is already secure but I do appreciate that is on the other side of the house to the patio. The hot tub may have been just warming up after the changeover as it can take up to 24 hours for the water to get to temperature after each refill and change of guest. I will double check to make sure that the thermostat is set to 40 which is the recommended level. Thank you for your kind review and I hope to see you again at some point in the future.   • "Absolutely stunning property done out to a high standard."

    We enjoyed our stay, even through storm Amy and will most definitely come back in the near future. Only thing we found was a problem was getting the temperature right in both showers, it was either to hot or far to cold. Thanks for a lovely stay

  • "We stayed at Pickwood Grange as a family of 6 and our dog."

    First impressions I was a little disappointed as the outdoor area is still a work in progress and the fully enclosed garden was not the one leading from the patio doors, this did not however effect our stay as our dog is a big dog and the traffic temporary fencing supplied was adequate. I was also disappointed to find the hot tub wasn’t ready upon our arrival but I know this can sometimes be the case as due to previous guests this had been emptied a little while earlier. From there on out we had the most amazing time, the kitchen has everything you could possibly need, the huge tv was great, however we did struggle with the WiFi and so streaming was very hit and miss and so we relied on the vast array of dvds supplied. The owners supplied games for us to play and we all loved the very generous fruit basket, wine and lucozades. We found some lovely walks on the doorstep and a lovely pub/restaurant a 6 minute drive away, The Sportsman Inn. The property is huge and my eldest son pretty much had his own wing! We will definitely be returning and I’m excited to see how the outdoor space develops and the outdoor shower. Thank you David x ps some throws would be a good addition for getting cosy on the sofa.

  • "We had a lovely stay with family."

    The accommodation was very clean and spacious for us all. Comfy beds, tv in every room and a lovely large kitchen. There’s still a lot of work to be done outside of the property and will be fantastic when it’s all finished.

I do agree that some of the outside space does require landscaping, however it is really difficult to schedule the contractors when the house is always fully let. I do have the contractors in every changeover day but as I am sure you can appreciate that can be a slow process.   • "Extremely well appointed house."

    Wonderful kitchen with everything you could possibly need. Fruit basket and wine on arrival very much appreciated. Lots of room for 3 generations . Hot tub and decking area enjoyed by all, good views from the property. Looking forward to a future stay when outside areas are fully completed. A great stay was had by all.

The property has only been offered as a holiday venue since April this year so I am still trying to get some areas of the outside space to the same standard as the internal space.   • "We had a lovely stay ay Pickwood Grange, we were welcomed upon arrival by David who showed us around the property and explain how things worked."

    The property has a lot to offer and the surroundings are beautiful. I know they are looking to cut down the trees by the decking but it actually felt like we were in a treetop lodge and adds a bit of something special, especially when in the hot tub or just enjoying the last of the days sun. We can see there is work still ongoing to the outdoor space (this did not affect our stay) and I think additional seating near the grassed part of the property would be great, as you could sit and enjoy the view. We cannot wait to see how the outside of the property turns out once finished. The inside has been planned to a "T" and is spacious, comfortable and is a lovely place to stay. We do hope that we can return in the future and cannot recommend this property enough.

  • "This is, without a doubt, the best holiday accomodation that we have stayed in."

    David has supplied everything that we might need, and more. He understood when we were late arriving, and happily showed us around. The children loved the outdoor activities and the hot tub, the chess sets and the video selection---to say nothing of the tvs. We adults really appreciated the cleanliness, the superbly equipped kitchen, the cupboard of 'essential extras' and the 'goodies' that David had so kindly left for us. If only all accomodation was as good as this.

  • "David is such a great host ,he went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible."

    He really has thought of everything. Nothing was too much trouble . The accommodation is first class ,the location is so tranquil . We will definitely return and recommend a visit, particularly if there are any mobility issues among the party .so much apace and all one one level . We wish we could have stayed longer.

  • "Firstly sorry for the delay in leaving our review, we were only the 2nd family to stay here BUT WOW !"

    What a fantastic property. David went above and beyond from the beginning when he was there to greet us and show us around, to the end to say his goodbyes. Nothing has been overlooked David has thought of everything and more besides. The property is finished to a VERY high standard with every gadget and utensil you could imagine provided.I have never stayed in a property so well equipped.The welcome gifts were very much appreciated. We felt very guilty not being able to finish the mountain of fruit that David had kindly left for us. We loved the massive TV .and all the streaming channels provided. Also the hot tub and bbq were a big hit and most enjoyable after a day out. The garden is still a work in progress but what David has completed is to again to a VERY high standard. We can’t wait to return to see it finished. We wish David every success with his holiday home venture. He really has done an amazing job.

  • "We had a fantastic stay at this cottage!"

    It was spotless, with brand new kitchen appliances and plenty of space to relax. The hot tub was a real highlight—perfect after long days exploring. It's ideally located close to town for shops and supplies, yet still feels peaceful and secluded. We especially loved the beautiful walks nearby at Hardcastle Crags. Would definitely stay again!

The property

Pickwood Grange is a stunning access friendly bungalow, ideal of elderly or disabled guests.

The whole of the inside and outside space is on one level.

Elegant white leather Sofas populate the large lounge area, giving plenty of room for the kids to play or to watch the 98-inch TV that brings a touch of the Cinema into the heart of the home.

An extensive DVD library of over 300 varied titles are provided to help the guests unwind after a busy day exploring the local area.

A large and fully tiled kitchen is well stocked with every conceivable modern device form Air Fryers, to sandwich makers and even a coffee maker.

For those that like to eat in whilst away, this kitchen and large dining room are ideally suited to your needs.

The fully enclosed and gated lawned area is ideal for the safety of the little ones or pets.

A variety of garden games and activities such as Table Tennis, Giant Chess Jenga and connect four are provided to keep everyone entertained.

The property boasts two walk-in shower rooms internally and a converted Telephone Box shower outside for those wanting a rinse off after sampling the 6-person Hot Tub whilst enjoying the lovely views.

There are several excellent pubs and restaurants within a 2–3-mile radius of the property all providing well priced Yorkshire fayre.

NORLAND

Halifax 3.7miles; Leeds 21.2 miles; Manchester 27.7 miles

Enjoying fantastic views over the Ryburn Valley, the sleepy Hamlet of Norland provides an ideal base for those wanting to explore the delights of West Yorkshire and beyond.

The area provides a quiet hideaway from the hustle and bustle of a busy city, but with a rail link 1.5 mile from the hamlet, there is easy access to the centres of both Leeds and Manchester and the vibrant night life that they offer.

Strike out to the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North York Moors National Park. Closer to home would be Saddleworth Moor and for the brass band enthusiast amongst you the Whit Friday band marches are not to be missed, the location of which is a scenic drive away. This event was featured in the film “Brassed Off” with Pete Postlethwaite and Ewan Mcgreggor.

The Ryburn Valley and the adjacent Calder Valley are nearby and have become a focal point for the TV and film industry over the last 10 years, with many productions being filmed in the local area. Author Sally Wainwright was born in Sowerby Bridge and as such many classic TV dramas are filmed in the town. Some of these are Happy Valley (police station featured in this is approx. 1.5 mile away!), Last Tango in Halifax, Gentleman Jack, and Ackley Bridge. Why not visit some of the iconic locations and see where the action all happened?

The surrounding areas also provide a wealth of culture and diversity from Halifax itself and its 18th-century Piece Hall, Shibden Hall, the home of Anne Lister, Eureka the National Children’s Museum and the Halifax Industrial Museum. Wainhouse Tower is a tall folly, open to the public on bank holidays, where you can climb its 300 or so steps to get a fantastic view of the local area. The National Sculpture Park at Bretton Hall, the National Coal Mining Museum for England and the National Media Museum in Bradford are all also within easy reach from Norland.

The Piece Hall has also become a hub for the arts and now hosts major concerts with headliners such as Tom Jones, Blondie, Bryan Adams, Nile Rodgers, Jess Glyn and Status Quo to mention a few.

Sowerby Bridge Station has regular trains to Leeds, Manchester, York, Hebden Bridge, Blackpool and Liverpool, for a day at a hotspot, whilst horse riding, climbing, swimming and canal boat excursions are all available within a 5-mile radius of the hamlet.
