  • "For directions to the cottage it would be useful to say look for the wooden sign board for Beckside and Shiers farmhouse is just before Beckside as the metal gate is not clearly visible when wide open."

  • "Beautiful property in a great location."

Really great facilities, and so much space. Perfect for all of our needs. Owner and caretaker were very helpful. Caretaker came out at night to make sure we had batteries for the torches in case we had a power cut during the storm. Would highly recommend to all!

  • "Spent a delightful Christmas 2021 at this lovely property- great location - rural but not so remote that you can’t walk to a pub or shop."

Can recommend the Devonshire Arms in the village - food fantastic. Property itself was clean, spacious, well equipped and toasty warm and cosy. Easily managed our family of 5 adults. Bird life is amazing. 10 minutes to Skipton and Grassington. Overall a great stay.

Thank you for your positive feedback, I am so pleased you and your family enjoyed Christmas at Shiers Farmhouse Property Owner

  • "Wardrobe space would be a useful addition."

Cooker needs attention, grill didn’t work. Heating timings in the lounge could do with being reviewed. However the heating did come back on quickly when the thermostat was adjusted.

Dear Mr Jones Thank you for your feedback, which is much appreciated; I always try to respond to my guests feedback. Please can you be more specific about the attention the cooker needs. I have adjusted the thermostat as requested. Many thanks Property Owner

  • "Lovely light filled farmhouse, spacious and great outdoor area."

Only downside is the beds are really soft and a bit of an acquired taste! High spec fixtures and fittings but the kitchen and downstairs bathroom could do with a deep clean.

  • "Some areas of the kitchen we not properly cleaned, for example the cooker hood was covered in a layer of grease and there were numerous cobwebs here and there."

The high chair needed a good scrub as well for the baby. What was most unfortunate was there were workmen right outside the property as we arrived, digging holes and putting in a new water pipe. This went on all week, so we had noise and problems getting in and out and parking our cars. We appreciated that this was unexpected by the owner, but in hindsight, had we known, we would certainly not have booked this cottage. Although some areas of the cottage and rear garden were nice, we all agreed that we wouldn't return for another stay, despite the workmen.

  • "I loved the peace and stillness of this old stone cottage, with its thick walls keeping out anxieties about the Co-Vid."

The peace and quiet of the location was a joy. Also loved the quirky old furniture. I do think however, that potential visitors should be aware that as the cottage is very old, they may find some things difficult - the main one for us was the heating. It took us quite a while to work out how to keep the cottage as warm as we would like. NB the caretaker was very helpful in this regard as was the owner who remotely organised a heating engineer the same day we mentioned a problem. It's not that it doesn't work, more that with the walls being so thick and there being two different heating systems, it took some getting used to. A further point is that the stairs are a little uneven which is again due to the building's age, but could be a problem if visitors had mobility problems. Overall, I would describe this as a home full of charm and peaceful atmosphere.

  • "The written directions to get to the property will benefit from a review; and suggest "at left had bend, heading towards Grassington; on leaving Cracoe, turn right onto single track lane."

Where lane bends slight right, turn left towards farm and seasonal campsite. Shiers farm house is up a short shared drive, on the right before the farm gate.

  • "In light of covid and the extra time needed to clean the cottage I would have expected the cottage to be spotless, but it was not."

I had to clean the fridge freezer and the kitchen table. There was food and crumbs found down side of the sofa, this was found as we cleaned the cottage before we left. The cottage is a lovely and in a great location but spoilt by poor cleanliness and old and well used equipment , such as cups, serving dishes and cooking trays.

  • "We encountered some issues with the heating."

We managed to have the radiators working but couldn’t regulate the upstairs bathroom to a comfortable temperature and we were unable to operate the underfloor heating in the kitchen. Everything else was very fine once we had worked out the best place to park! We so appreciated the milk etc that was supplied.

  • "Photo is a bit misleading as the hedge had not been cut so access to the lawn area was restricted."

However the patio was fine for sitting out. Awkward to get onto the internet (we had to seek help from the owner and caretaker) and to tune in the TV. Otherwise the cottage was comfortable and well-equipped and we enjoyed our stay.

About the location

CRACOE

Grassington 6 miles.

Cracoe is an idyllic hamlet situated approximately five miles north of the market town of Skipton and around six miles south-west of Grassington. The village lies on the Way of the Roses, a coast-to-coast cycling route which opened in 2010 running between the seaside resort of Morecambe on the Irish Sea and Bridlington in East Yorkshire. Between Cracoe and Burnsall rests the Cracoe Reef Knolls, a collection of low lying limestone hills which contains the remnants of a pre-historic ocean that once covered the land. In nearby Grassington tourists can visit the Folk Museum which is housed in two miner’s cottages and features many exhibits and artefacts on village life through the ages. There are also regular events and gatherings in the town, including a festival running during the three Saturdays leading up to Christmas and a 1940s-themed weekend. A village festival including concerts, dances, theatre and comedy takes place for two weeks each June. Grassington is also home to crafts shops and places selling outdoor equipment, however for those looking for a more varied shopping experience take a journey to Skipton, which features a large high street with well-known stores and a much-loved market.
