Stable Cottage

Another lovely week in Stable Cottage.

I’ve lost count now of the number of times I’ve stayed in one of the cottages at Water Hall Farm. Once visited it’s difficult to find anywhere else that matches the same high standard of accommodation, facilities and location.

We had a wonderful week the cottage was beautifully clean and had everything we needed for our stay.

We were able to park within a few metres from the cottage so not to far to wheel cases. Ideally situated easy reach of great places to visit. Just one criticism the description mentions a pub in the village for food, the pub is being turned into a house it appears so a bit disappointing. Having said that we would stay there again in a heartbeat five star cottage.

What a wonderful stay!

Stable Cottage was a pure delight - beautifully equipped and comfy. Quiet and peaceful setting well away from hustle and bustle and the surrounding countryside is stunning. An ideal location for exploring more of North Yorkshire - I will be coming back!

A great cottage for a nice get-away for couples.

Location made it easy for us to see both the rural and urban parts of Yorkshire without driving too much. Would highly recommend if you’re looking to spend a lovely time in countryside :)

What a gem!

an absolutely beautiful cottage. One of the best we have stayed in, from a well equipped kitchen to a king size very comfy bed and a good sized bathroom. Lovely little touches with milk tea coffee and biscuits in the kitchen. We loved our morning And afternoon visits from the owners cat The cottage is spotlessly clean so a big shout out to the lovely ladies on the team who work hard to keep it so nice. Will definitely be back

Great place to stay, this was our second visit to Stable cottage and really enjoyed the holiday again.

Once again we have had a wonderful stay at The Stable Cottage, everything was fresh ,clean and comfortable as always, the only thing that was disappointing was the lack of fresh milk in the fridge, last time we had a jug of fresh cows milk for our use, this time there were pre packed sachets of UHT milk, not quite right on a farm full of cows!

!!!!! We were very sad to see the order of service for the old farmer who had sadly passed away in 2023 he was a lovely man, we spoke to him during our last visit, we walked around the farm to see the alpacas and highland cattle, the wooden lodges looked lovely, including hot tubs, might try those next time. All in all another great holiday in North Yorkshire, bonus was meeting Julien the Yorkshire Vet while enjoying a drink the The Carpenters Arms, it really made my holiday.

It had everything you need.where it’s situated it’s so peaceful.lovely walks .absolutely spotless inside the cottage.any problems the owners are there to help. I definitely would recommend this beautiful place.

Peaceful and tranquil, highly recommend

This was our second visit to Stable Cottage and it was just as comfortable and well appointed as we remembered.

The owners go above and beyond in making this little cottage a pleasure to stay in by providing milk, tea and coffee and chocolate biscuits and also toiletries. We hope to return again next year.

Stable Cottage had everything we look for in a holiday place to stay.

It was clean, comfortable (especially the bed), quiet and ideally situated to explore all the beautiful places around. Additionally, it was not too far for a day trip to the coast. Thank you to James & Joseph for a friendly welcome, Julie and the excellent two ladies who look after the cottages. We would certainly return when we holiday in this beautiful corner of North Yorkshire again.

Great place to stay, James is a friendly down to earth guy and we like that, having been born on a farm I was impressed with the standard of the property everything you need and more.

Lovely little cottage.

My only recommendation would be proper cushions for the bar stools. Comfy bed, nice bathroom, well equipped kitchen. Very clean.

A lovely setting and comfortable accommodation with friendly staff.

This property was comfortable, clean, well equipped and everything we could wish for.

We found it an ideal base for visiting many places of interest nearby. A real credit to its owners and the cleaning team. We hope to return in the future. Many thanks for a wonderful holiday.

Very good facilities, comfortable and very clean. Nice to have the hosts on site and the time taken to check with us that everything was okay was very much appreciated.

Also good level of local information and maps provided which was appreicated. We enjoyed coming back to the stables after a day out!

Everyone and everything was perfect Stable Cottage literally had everything we needed and more! Special touches included fresh milk, Xmas tree, box for dirty walking boots and so much more. James was so kind taking time out of his very busy day to show and explain to us how the farm operates. Absolutely loved it. But Shhhh don’t tell too many as we want to return !!! The Stable was cosy, clean and tidy upon arrival.

Plenty of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, a jug of milk and yummy packet of biscuits available to welcome us. Everything in the kitchen that you would need to make a meal and well equipped throughout. Owner and team all very friendly and welcoming.

Stable cottage was a great place for two people.

We were also pleased that it was fine and warm at a chilly time of year.

The hosts are very friendly and accommodating. We were given a tour of the farm at feeding time and it was both fun and informative including some lovely stories of vet visits. The cottage is a great base for all things North Yorkshire and I would highly recommend it.

We have stayed in Stable cottage sime years ago.

Upon entering we were amazed that it looked better than years ago. Spotless, airy and light, delightful. The owners are very friendly, we enjoyed our stay, perhaps some better pillows would be welcomed. Otherwise what's not to like.

This cottage, (or unit more accurately), was exactly as described.

The family who owned the farm made us welcome, which was much appreciated after a long journey. We really enjoyed our stay and were given some tips on where to go by the owner. There are many attractions within easy reach and some a little further, but still within comfortable travelling time. Definitely to be recommended.

A lovely farm conversion property, well appointed in a lovely area.

Bed very comfortable, we slept well. Lots to do in local area or walks nearby. Enjoyed seeing the alpacas, goats and sheep!!

This is our 2nd stay in the same cottage ; we love the site, the cottage, the people ; the facilities are amazing, you want for nothing.

You can join in the farm activities and the Alpacas are beautiful. You can even buy their wool or pre - made items. Fresh free range eggs available each day and a jug of fresh milk is provided on your arrival. Perfect.

The cottage was as described and was very comfortable and clean, in a perfect location, with walks from the farm and close enough for other amenities.

Our only concern before staying was if it was going to be noisy, as the cottage is on a working farm. It wasn't. The only noise early in the morning was the birds.

Had a lovely stay in stable cottage very warm and cosy everything you needed was there and more will certainly be returning in the near future

Lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings.

The owner is a lovely gentleman, and the staff are great. There are walks from the farm, and also you can be taken round the farm at feeding time. There is plenty to see in the area - Sutton Bank, Thirsk and Helmsley to name a few. We can really recommend.

Lovely cozy cottage, great kitchen and bathroom and very comfortable bed.

TV and Wifi worked a treat. Beautiful area, couldn't ask for more.

The location is very quiet and peaceful. The owner Ed was welcoming and friendly, and invited us to look at the alpacas on the farm, which was lovely. We had a most enjoyable holiday, in a very nice area.

We had a lovely stay at this well appointed cosy cottage.

An old stable beautifully converted, it is ideal for couples, rurally situated on a farm for a quiet relaxing stay. It is ideally placed for walkers and for exploring the local towns, and the moors and dales. The only problem for us was only being able to spend 3 nights in the cottage.

I’d recommend to family but they all have dogs they like to take on holiday & this place doesn’t take pets.

Found in a beautiful location, Ideally situated with places like York, Whitby, Harrogate or Ripon no more than an hours drive. Beautiful country side and lots of amazing villages, walks and scenery within easy reach. 10 out of 10.

The cottage was beautiful, the people were friendly and we loved our stay.

It was great to see some of the animals as well. There were only 2 minor negatives: - The bed frame was metal, which squeeked with every little movement - We'd have liked it if the window on the front door and kitchen front had proper curtains

The Stable was immacutely clean on arrival, and felt very COVID safe.

It is extremely well equipped, especially the kitchen. The new Smart TV was a real treat for the November evenings! Very well situated to explore North Yorkshire, from Harrogate to Scarborough and York to Whitby! Lots of wonderful walks too. I highly recommend.

Lovely well appointed cottage for two.

Very cosy and heating easy to adjust. Mattress on the firm side though. Lovely central position for touring the area.

Everything was great.

Our only issue was the mattress was very hard in our stable cottage and we struggled to sleep well each night.

It was a really lovely holiday and the cottage was excellent in so many ways.

The owners were really friendly and helpful, the scenery and location were great. it was lovely to go and see all the animals in the evening. There were 2 items that if they were dealt with would make this perfect. It was a really warm week, there is a security light outside the bedroom which is on all night, for ventilation there is a window, a blind and some curtains. To keep the light out you need to draw the curtains but that made the room really stuffy. If the blind was changed to a blackout blind this would solve the problem. There was lots of hot water all day but the shower head was really close to the wall, it didn't have much spray. Again not a really massive issue but adds to comfort and could be solved.

'The Stable' is a lovely place to stay.

It has everything you could need for a relaxing, enjoyable holiday. The owners were very friendly, and nothing was too much trouble for them. It is ideally situated to explore the North Yorkshire Moors, Dales and coastline. We would highly recommend staying at Water Hall Farm.

A beautifully clean cottage with everything we needed!

Milk in the fridge with complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits to welcome us was a very nice touch. Situated at the bottom of Sutton Bank on a working farm, views stunning and the family and their pets very welcoming. Will be sure to visit again.

Third visit to this cottage.

It is well equipped, scrupulously clean and we will go again.

The mattress was hard and my back muscles went into spasm and I couldn't move.

This happened twice.

Only minor irritation was shower, which could have been better in terms of power and temperature control.

When we arrived at The Stables Mr McDonald was there to greet us and explain where everything was.

The accommodation was exactly as it was stated on the website, extremely clean and all the equipment for the kitchen was in perfect working order. The cleanliness of the kitchen was second to none. We can only praise this accommodation and would certainly consider re-booking in the future and would not hesitate in recommending the property.

There was little extras on arrival which was a very nice touch.

The owners were very friendly . Good location to get to places, we will be back again.

WE had a fantastic time in Thirsk, Yorkshire.

The Stable cottage was absolutely amazing, so clean, absolutely everything you could wish for was in this cottage, we can't wait for our next visit! Ed McDonald is such a lovely man, we were really over the moon when we saw the accommodation, absolutely second to none! We toured around Yorkshire, visiting some really lovely places, We went over the Yorkshire Moors, the scenery is out of this world! Visited Helmsley, which is such a pretty Market town, Boroughbridge, another really nice place! We had a fantastic week, couldn't wish for better! Also, lots of really nice pubs, the food was really good and lovely people!

Loved staying at Stable Cottage.

Very comfortable, and the extras like milk, biscuits and vinegar in the cupboard were very thoughtful. I enjoyed the chickens wandering about, and went to say hi to the lovely alpacas. Great area, lots to see.

We found the owner and staff really friendly and helpful to make our stay enjoyable.

The Waterhall cottages are ideal to explore a large area of Yorkshire and we will be back for the third time next year!

We enjoyed a lovely September week at The Stable.

We had not trouble finding the farm following our satnav and when we arrived the door was unlocked and everything was clean and welcoming. The living/kitchen area is open plan with the bedroom and separate shower/toilet room at the back of the area. Lovely comfy large bed and plenty of hanging and storage draws. Lovely fluffy towels and a large shower. Plenty of outside seating with tables and parking close by. Separate laundry with a washing machine and tumble dryer even washing powder was supplied. The kitchen was well supplied with all the equipment you could wish for which included washing up liquid, hand soap and hand cream. The family are friendly without being intrusive. Lots of places to visit in the area and a pub serving food is a short walk away in the village. You can buy fresh eggs and a breakfast pack containing the farm's sausages and bacon should you wish to order it. The only downside we found was that there was no table and chairs. You sit on two stools with no backs at the worktop to eat and this was not comfortable. There was a two seat settee for watching the tv which was wall mounted.Good wifi.

The cottage was warm, clean and comfortable and our host very friendly and helpful.

There are easy walks on the farm from where you can see the Alpacas, sheep, goats and wild hares in the evening. More strenuous walks from the Sutton bank visitor centre are close by. We found the cottage a good base location since it is well situated for reaching Whitby and other areas of the east coast by car. Thirsk, Northallerton, Bedale and Leyburn are also easily reached. Best of all there is a good pub in Sutton under Whitestonecliffe just a 10 minute walk from the cottage. There are many things of interest in this area, Yorkshire Lavender is well worth a visit, for oak furniture Mouseman in Kilburn, Squirrel man in Husthwaite and Beaver man near the pub are also worth a visit. Trenchers in Whitby does a really great meal at a reasonable price and The Whole Hog restaurant at Howe Bridge Farm, Low Marishes, Malton, does the best bangers, mash and beans I have had in a long time. The cottage is in a great area for a holiday and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Centrally located for the coast, country and town. And there are some great visitor attractions nearby including Nunnington Hall, Reviaux Abbey as well as the James Herriot centre in Thirsk. And the city of York is nearby. Brilliant holiday here. I simply can’t fault it.

It was the welcome by Ed and the family, the cottage was fabulous and the location which was very central to touring North Yorkshire

The cottage itself has been beautifully converted from a stable block.

It was clean, comfortable and all was in working order. As a facility it is first class. My complaint though is that there was a very strong WIFI signal available but NO internet on the other side of the router/modem. Other folks staying in the cottages experienced the same difficulty. Also the mobile phone signal was very weak for the first five days and finally gave up completely for the last two days. I had to drive into Thirsk whenever I needed to use either internet or phone and sit on Tesco's car park. Lidl's car park and the town square also worked fine! I was also surprised that during my entire stay no-one ever came to check if I had any questions, problems or needs. If you want to stay somewhere that is technologically 'off the grid', well-maintained and nobody will give a hoot about you, then this is the ideal place, but otherwise don't bother.

Stable Cottage is lovely.

The compact accommodation has been beautifully created and all the fittings are of a very high standard. Everything you need is provided and in mint condition. The cottage is immaculate,and comfortable. The owners are welcoming and friendly and the farm is peaceful. A perfect retreat.

it was so well equipt, more than anything I have ever stayed in before.

. it was little things that made it special, there was a lovely welcome and the little things in the cottage was above and beyond my expectations. I wanted a peaceful place, and the stables was perfect. I will be staying there again and hopefully take my family with me to enjoy the farm and the surrounding area.. the owners of the farm were so lovely, there when you needed them but not intrusive at all.. I have had a wonderful holiday at the stables, and I will be going back..

Stable Cottage was exceptional.

Stable Cottage is in an excellent location for touring around Yorkshire.

There is ample parking and wifi which are two of the things I look for when I am booking somewhere to stay. Victoria was very friendly and showed us around a couple of the other cottages that were unoccupied at the time. The cottage was of a good size for the two of us with a comfy sofa to snuggle up on. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you could possibly need throughout your stay. It was absolutely spotlessly clean. It was a nice little touch to find a pint of milk in the fridge and a packet of biscuits, tea, coffee and sugar sachets when we arrived. The only thing missing was a dvd player. I had read lots of information about various cottages on Sykes website so knew there wasn't a dvd player in Stable Cottage which is why we packed our own! It meant after being out all day and coming back just wanting to relax and chill out, we were able to put a film on to watch. The information folder in the cottage was a good help with ideas for places to eat, nearest supermarkets, petrol stations, hospital, pharmacy, etc. Lots of takeaway menus too! All in all, I would definitely recommend this cottage or one of the others on the farm.
