"Enjoyable stay in a lovely location and the kitchen was well equipped."
Overall the property is a little tired and could do with the owners spending some money to modernise the decor and update some of the furniture and carpets.

"This cottage is issolated, you have to drive up a single track road for nearly 3 minutes."
Walking is an hour round trip. Perfect for a morning or late evening walk with the dogs. The views from the cottage are truly amazing. We did see plenty of wild life, hares, deer, buzzards and the likes. We met owners, while walking the dogs, which was nice. The cottage was warm and cozy, clean, tidy, we had everything we needed for a fantastic week away. Will definitely be returning for another holiday.

"Chippermore Cottage is spacious and the view is stunning."
The half mile access track is challenging, very bumpy with large potholes. The cottage has a good bathroom, kitchen and household appliances but the fittings and furnishing are shabby; the duvets were 'solid' and uncomfortable, 3 TVs but only 1 worked, lights and clocks that weren't working, mold on the bedroom ceiling etc. There was no information about the area but a telephone directory for 2011 and even older magazines!?!?!?

But a busy time for farmers stunning views . The downer for me possibly because I really detest heights was the single track road that leads upto the cottage a sheer drop one side maybe a few bollards on chain link would be in order Bit otherwise a lovely cottage .

"This is the third time we have stayed at this lovely cottage, but the first with Sykes."
The location is superb, with open views over fields and the sea. There is a shortish drive (2 minutes) up a farm lane from the main road, which is narrow but not really daunting. The cottage is warm and well equipped...it even has WIFI! The owner and his farm manager are very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be coming back again.

Dating from the end of the eighteenth century, the fishing village of Port William sits on the east side of Luce Bay on the Machars peninsula in the Dumfries and Galloway region of Scotland. There is much history in the area from early Christian sites through to more recent smuggling activities. The picturesque harbour that dates from the 18th century offers sea angling and is ideal for sailors too. There is a statue of a bronze otter erected in memory of Gavin Maxwell, author of ‘Ring of Bright Water’. His family home, Monreith House, is nearby and Maxwell used to exercise his otter on the beach below the house. Oscar Kokoschka, one of the twentieth century’s best known expressionist painters, spent time here during the Second World War. Today Port William is an attractive fishing village within easy reach of sandy beaches, a 9 hole links course just 2 miles away, walking and cycling in the Galloway hills and the cafés and shops of Wigtown, designated as Scotland’s first Book Town. Carnival Week is traditionally held in the first week in August with a wealth of events and attractions. Nature lovers will be drawn to the many nature reserves in the area as well as the childhood home of Gavin Maxwell at Elrig, just along the coast.
