  • "We love this little cottage and this was our second stay at Jacob’s Barn."

Only two very small issues stopped me from giving a top marks and they would probably not bother other visitors. The beams in the mezzanine bedroom are a bit more for me as I am over 6 feet, and we would have liked a coffee pot! Don’t let me put you off though - the hosts are very lovely although we had no need to disturb them and this cottage is a peaceful and beautiful retreat.

It is always worth while studying the photos and the property description to ensure you choose a property that is going to be comfortable for you, unfortunately we cannot change the properties construction. Perhaps you would have found The Stables more comfortable. A cafertier is available in the kitchen cupboard. Property Owner

  • "Jacob's Barn is a cosy holiday cottage, it was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay."

Tea, coffee and biscuits were supplied in the kitchen on arrival which is a lovely welcoming touch. The view of the peaks from the front garden was amazing, and the location was so quiet and peaceful. The owners pretty much left us to it, but when we did speak to them after arriving back from a day out, they were very friendly and provided suggestions of other things to do in the local area. The cottage is located so that you can reach a lot of attractions within 30 minutes or so. You do have to drive to get to the nearest shop for supplies! Overall we had a really enjoyable stay at Jacob's Barn and would recommend to couples wishing to have a holiday to the Peak District.

The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept very well. The building is very well equipped. It was very quiet and peaceful, just the occasional road noise . The property was well situated to explore all the Peak District has to offer . We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was wonderful to find a dog friendly property finished to such a high standard and so well maintained. The owners, a lovely couple, live nearby and will give you any advice you need on local attractions etc. Thank you Sue .

Nice cottage clean and tidy lacking a few bits and pieces in the kitchen department could do with a lick off paint on the walls above the sink but nothing that bad shower could also do with a bit of maintenance screw caps missing and a bit of a leak around base but very clean and works well also be aware that the road is busy more so in the early hours of the morning these are only little things and i would stay there again

Everything was perfect. The only gripe we had was the late check in and very early check out! Luckily we stayed for two nights, However if you only stayed for one night you would essentially have less than 16 hours to enjoy.

The accommodation was super clean and comfortable and the owners are friendly and recommended lots of great local places for us to visit. The enclosed patio area is lovely and was ideal for our dog! As others have mentioned, the wi-fi is intermittent, but this is expected due to the remote location.

  • "Nice place, but the road can be quite noisy."

No or little phone reception in the property, and broadband intermittent if more than one of you wants to use it at the same time. Also no wardrobe to hang clothes in, and very little empty cupboard space in the kitchen for your own food. Hosts very friendly, and available for questions.

There was nowhere for clothes, only bedside cabinets and a very small chest of drawers, and no hanging space at all. We found the adjacent road very noisy with speeding HGVs and other vehicles quite a lot of the time. Had we known all this beforehand we would probably have asked for a different property. However, lettings were getting harder to find because of lockdown etc so choice was at a premium.

Jacobs Barn has been tastefully decorated. The compact space has been well thought out. It was perfect for mine and my partners needs and that of our dog. Both Colin and Susan were extremely helpful and friendly. Having read other reports, we too found the lounge window velux, which has no blind, a bit of an issue with the sunlight disturbing our sleep a little and our GSD managed to jump the front wall, but these are very minor issues and had no impact on our delightful stay. We would defo return.

Jacobs Barn is really lovely and cosy. A home from home. Beautiful countryside on the doorstep. Highly recommend doing the walk from Ilam to the stepping stones at Dovedale and a trip to Heights of Abraham at Matlock. We took our 12 week old daughter with us and had a wonderful time. Sue was really great and nothing was too much trouble she even loaned us a baby bath. The only small point that would have made the cottage more comfortable would have been some blinds in the bedroom as if you are a light sleeper you will wake up with the sunrise.
