Just show me Tintagel Cottages
Natural settings don't come more dramatic than Tintagel,
nestling atop rugged, windswept cliffs, with dazzling views of
coast and countryside. Legend has it that King Arthur was born
here. Just two reasons to book a Tintagel cottage.
Pick up local leaflets and interesting 'Arthurian' facts
at the Visitor Centre then head for Tintagel Castle, perched
precariously on land linked to a small island at Tintagel Head.
Steeped in myth and legend, it's a place to linger and soak up
the atmosphere. Explore the 13th Century ruins, visit Merlin's
Cave and lunch in the beachside cafe. Unravel more mysteries at
King Arthur's Great Halls situated in the village and featuring
splendid stained glass windows.
Also in the village is the National Trust's Old Post Office,
an ancient yeoman's farmhouse with a delightfully wonky roof.
There are all kinds of buildings here, some medieval, some
Victorian, others modern and everything sits happily side by side
creating a village full of character and charm.
When you fancy a bite to eat, choose from restaurants, tearooms
and cosy pubs. Other amenities include a play area, toy museum,
pottery and gift shops.
The South West Coast Path runs through the village, promising
walks with amazing views like the spectacular 9-mile stretch to
Boscastle. Beach lovers, combers and surfers, meanwhile, should aim
for the golden sands of Trebarwith Strand. Also close by is St.
Nectan's Glen, an important spiritual site with holy well and
waterfall.
