Down at the quayside watch local fishermen tend their nets and daily catch - lobster, plaice, skate and sole - to be featured later as stars on the specials' boards of Mevagissey's pubs and restaurants, often with alfresco dining areas for those balmy summer evenings. Discover more about their centuries-old trade and join them on a sea fishing trip.
Wander the town's attractive alleyways lined with charming galleries, shops and craft workshops - originally haunts of sea-faring smugglers. The beaches of Polstreath and Portmellon are a short walk away, while neighbouring Gorran Haven offers two superb village beaches ideal for family days out. Walks not-to-miss include Polkirt Hill and the coastal path.
Book a Mevagissey cottage in summer and look out for Feast Week, when the town comes alive with music, dance and carnival parades. Or try a festive break - the town boasts a wonderful display of Christmas lights and everyone dresses up at New Year.
Top of the list comes the Eden Project, a fascinating eco attraction known as the '8th wonder of the world' and offering an array of attractions for every age. Next, the Lost Gardens of Heligan - a mysterious estate full of rare features like giant rhubarb plants and Alpine ravines.
Back in Mevagissey, there's the Museum of Model Railways, the Old Lifeboat House Aquarium and the Folk Museum. If you need anything else, pop into the local tourist office.
