Just Show Me Polperro Cottages
Escape the hustle and bustle of fast-paced life and book a stay in a Polperro holiday cottage, dotted in and around this gorgeous little fishing village on the south Cornish coast.
Squashed together in a higgledy-piggledy fashion, fishermen's cottages line the tiny streets. Thankfully vehicles are banned so you can wander freely and browse the quirky shops and galleries. As you go, remember Polperro was once notorious with smuggling and that you'll trace the routes of wagons laden with brandy and tobacco, pushed through town at the dead of night - find out more at the local Heritage Centre.
Coastal footpaths weave along the Heritage Coast and from the village you can head east to Talland Bay or west to Lansallos, two lovely beaches with small churches. From Talland Bay, continue on to the coastal town of Looe (5 miles in total) and either walk back or hop on a bus. Whichever way you go, the views are amazing, sweeping across plunging cliffs and out to sea. Or soak up the scenery from offshore and enjoy a boat or fishing trip from the harbour.
Talking of fishing, Polperro is famous for its seafood and you'll find an array of attractive cafés, restaurants and old sea shanty inns, some with magical waterfront views. Otherwise grab a crab sandwich or a carryout of fish and chips and savour in your Polperro holiday home.
And if your Polperro cottage holiday happens to be in summer, enjoy quayside entertainment every Wednesday evening, courtesy of the Polperro Fishermen's Choir.
