  • "A great holiday rental."

The cottage is very well appointed, with everything needed for a relaxing stay - much seemed brand new. The bedding was really fresh and the house clean and tidy. Laurence was a great host, providing plenty of information before we arrived and delighting us with a lovely “Welcome Pack” on arrival. Our family all agreed it’s the best holiday cottage we’ve stayed in. The village shop was a godsend at times and the lady who ran it was very pleasant and helpful. It’s a relatively short walk to the harbour at Gorran Haven and there were plenty of footpaths to keep us all (including our dog, Zeus) fit and healthy! The long walk past the church down to Portmellon and then round the coastal path to Chapel Point and eventually round to Gorran Haven and up the hill to Gorran Churchtown was well worth it, although in wet weather it was a bit muddy, so walking boots are a must. We counted over 40 seals resting in the cove at Chapel Point which was a holiday highlight!

  • "A beautiful cottage in a lovely location Ludgvan Cottage is comfortable and well equipped with everything you need for a break in Cornwall, and offered us a welcome return after windswept days at the beach or walking the coast path."

Goran Churchtown is a pleasant village with a friendly shop and post office and a pub which does excellent food and with miles of scenic coastal paths and pretty fishing villages within reach. On days when the weather was extra stormy the cottage was perfect for staying at home and playing boardgames!

Heating was easy to use with cooler mornings and evenings and the welcome pack was gratefully received. The owner sent us lots of information on the surrounding area before our visit which was very useful The situation is perfect to visiting, Mevagissy, Lost gardens of Heligan and Lobbs Farm Shop. The village shop is opposite and has fresh bread and fruit and veg as well as newspapers etc. The Barley Sheaf pub is just across the road and the food is excellent

  • "This cottage is about 10 miles from the centre of St Austell and is mostly uphill so there are great views but is pretty close to most amenities ie sight seeing, coastal areas, places to eat etc."

The property is superb, plenty of space, very clean and has its own parking on the property. The enclosed area at the back is brilliant for dogs and is properly secure, outside furniture with huge sun umbrella. This is my kind of tranquil heaven so will definitely be booking to come again, perfection.

  • "Ludgvan was a special find for us."

It feels like we have finally found our regular go to holiday stay! We holiday with two children, two parents and two grandparents and there was so much room for us all to have our own space when needed but also come together and share dinner or sit outside or watch tv in the evening. The beds were comfortable and everything was spotless. The area and views were amazing, with the lovely barley sheaf just over the road with a garden, pool and lovely dinners and drinks it was a perfect spot. The history in the building and surroundings with the nearby church where you can hear the church bells ringing and see horses and donkeys on the doorstep walking by is lovely to see and hear. For us being regular visitors at pentewan and Mevagissey this was a perfect spot where we wanted to be further out of the hustle and bustle of the busy summer crowds but everywhere we wanted to go was a quick drive away. Goran haven is a quick walk or drive , meva only down the road, helligan gardens is really close and Pentewan valley and beach also a drive away. We are cyclists and the use of the garage was great so that we could grab the bikes regularly and get out and about. An all round excellent stay where we felt at home immediately. Great communication from the lovely owner who checked everything was okay and sent me over some walks and cycle routes nearby. Really friendly and helpful. 100% the best cottage we have stayed in Cornwall and we have been visiting for over 20 years! Thank you for an amazing stay! We will definitely be booking to stay again next year

  • "This was a fabulous family holiday with 2 young children and our labrador."

The cottage is welcoming, with all modern amenities but has kept the stone cottage beautifully so, you are living inside a piece of history. The town has everything you need, a local shop opposite open daily for basic groceries and the main beach a short drive away. The dog friendly pub opposite the cottage is award winning and the food lived up to the award! You’ll want to plan to eat in places other than the pub opposite every night as it’s only open certain days of the week and the prices match the high-end food. The local beach is dog friendly and isn’t overcrowded so has an unspoiled proper Cornish feel. You may want to check the tide times to plan your arrival on the beach though as the tide does come nearly all the way in and takes a good 3 hours to reveal the full scope of the beach again. We were lucky enough to coincide our visit with a local beach festival which was great fun, various races and stalls, food and drink, with locals and visitors having lots of fun! The owner will provide you with all the information you could need to optimise your visit and will check in with you that everything is going well.

  • "This is a wonderful cottage and in a lovely location not far from the local beach at Gorran Haven."

The cottage is comfortable and has everything you would need for a relaxing break. The ground floor is spacious and has all modern facilities.....the owner has really thought of everything and it is very well presented - felt like a home from home experience! The location is perfect with a very handy shop accross the road selling everything you would possibly need. The local pub 'The Barley Sheaf' is also just accross the road which has a lovely restaurant and the food was delicious - a must visit during any stay. The beach at Gorran Haven is lovely with some great local facilities - cafes, a place to drink and a great fish and chip shop. The beach is easy to get to by vehicle with a large car park, however you can walk from the cottage with some beautiful views of the countryside. A great place to stay if you have a dog with some wonderful local walks and most pubs are dog friendly as well as the beach. The owner was very attentive before and during our visit providing lots of information and offering advice on what to do and where to go which was very useful. We had a lovely week break at the end of August 2022 and would recommend staying at this property. We will hopefully be back sometime in the future!!

  • "This cottage is fabulous - large, beautifully furnished, welcoming, and with lots of thoughtful extras such as a welcome pack, board games, and a barbecue."

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, making full use of the many different spaces in which to relax. From the open living room through dining room, eat-in kitchen and the large, private patio with multiple seating areas, our group of six (plus dog!) had plenty of space to spread ourselves out for reading, resting, chatting or writing whilst also having three large areas where we could all gather to eat, play games, or just chat. Having rented cottages for over twenty years, there was a feeling when we walked in, of ‘wow, we’ve lucked out this year.’ We should have known as the pre-departure process was particularly easy, not just with Sykes, but with the owner, who provided a lot of additional specific, and helpful, information. As for the area, we were spoilt for choice with Heligan Gardens, a beach with fantastic cafes, paddle boarding/kayaking etc., a pub with exceptionally good food and a village shop all under five minutes’ away and many other coastal villages and towns within easy driving distance. In short, highly recommended with no qualifiers at all.

  • "Wonderful cottage - kept beautifully just a couple of little things, no corkscrew for opening wine but the lovely pub across the road helped out!"

A mop would be great too so as to maintain a high level of cleanliness, oh a few extra bulbs as two blew and couldn't replace. Also, some clear instructions for hob and heated flooring use! But, as I said these are small things. Very homey and well just as described we would definitely come back lovely home from home and lovely village!

Set in a charming village with a local convenience store just opposite and great pub, serving excellent food nearby, it was exactly what we needed for a restful and relaxing stay. Secure back garden ensured that our dog didn’t embark on his own private tour of the vicinity! Would recommend this cottage.

The location was great, with lots of short, interesting walks to small beaches, castles, cafes, pubs and the harbour. The favourite place for the family was the harbour, where we all jumped off the walls into the sea! There was so much to do. All you could hear were birds from the house, so restful and relaxing. Enjoy a BBQ in the garden or a real fire for cosy nights in. We took our dog who was very much at home and enjoyed the break as much as we did! Would highly recommend and can’t wait to return. Thank you for everything, including the helpful welcome brochure and thoughtful welcome gift! Jo

Enjoying Cornwall's delightful countryside in the village of Gorran Churchtown is this Grade II listed, 180 year’s old detached stone and slate house featuring clome ovens, Ludgvan Cottage.

A fantastic base for families of six, Ludgvan Cottage not only enjoys the peaceful surroundings in this charming village but is within easy reach of a wealth of coastal sights!

When arriving at the house, you will be happy to find two off-road parking spaces, making it an easy task to unload your belongings into your home-from-home.

Continue inside from the hall to be taken in by the sitting room, where a coastal colour scheme, cushioned seating, a toasty woodburning stove and a flatscreen TV make for the perfect spot for relaxation.

Move through the property to its rear, where a beautifully-fitted kitchen enjoys pristine white units, a breakfast bar, heated slate floors and a range of integrated appliances, which add to its sleek look; creating a space where the chef of the group can prepare meals in style!

When a sumptuous meal has been whipped up, enjoy it next door in the dining room, a space boasting original stonework and is where a dining table of six awaits (when can be extended to eight)!

The property enjoys a ground floor cloakroom and a first floor beautifully finished bathroom with rainfall shower.

Continue across the first floor to come across three tastefully furnished bedrooms, with the first one being a double, the second room being a twin and the last room containing a bunk bed that is perfect for any guests.

To the back of the property rests an enclosed sun-trap patio, a place that can become the perfect, sunny spot for you to unwind in during the warmer months!

A highlight of Ludgvan Cottage is its location, with a shop (groceries and post office, open seven days a week) and The Barley Sheaf pub (voted pub of the year 2021/2022 by Cornwall tourist Board, which serves award winning food and ales) practically on your doorstep; be sure to venture a short way to Gorran Haven, too, where gorgeous beaches and access to the South West Coastal Path are waiting to be discovered.

From the front door, you can walk with the dog to Portmellon via the side lane and footpaths to the Rising Sun pub, without engaging with any car; enjoy a few ales or ciders in the pub and embark on a leisurely walk back to the property.

The fishing port of Mevagissey rests moments away and is home to the fascinating attractions of the Mevagissey Aquarium and the Mevagissey Model Railway, along with the delights of Mevagissey Harbour with its waterside eateries, summer passenger ferry to Fowey and fishing charters.

Just four miles from the front door is the Lost Gardens of Heligan’s 200 acres estate – certainly worth visiting and a high quality farm shop.

Travel further to St Austell, a town that boasts access to the famed Eden Project, along with the Wheal Martyn Clay Works, Kidzworld, golf courses, the Pinetum Gardens, historic Charlestown and of course, stunning shores!

The region hosts even more wonders that are waiting to be experienced, such as Perranporth, Newquay, quaint St Mawes, picturesque King Harry Ferry, Bodmin, Lanhydrock and Truro; be sure to check them out during your stay.
