“The cottage was lovely in a quiet spot but near to the centre of Moreton in Marsh.”

It was a perfect base to get to lots of other beautiful places in the Cotswolds and the train station was nearby for a day trip to Oxford too. The cottage was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. Thank you

“Perfect in every way”

Beautifully kept, well maintained and equipped. Earlier reviews mentioned aspects which I think have been addressed by the owners. The towels are huge and new. The beds comfortable and everything is fresh, well maintained and feels like a home from home. It’s very well equipped in every sense. There are notes apologising for the changes made due to Covid, but other than the late check in - we are missing nothing. It’s perfectly situated just off the highstreet with private parking. Moreton In Marsh seems to be central for everything we have chosen to do. The shower is amazing! There’s Netflix (kids) and a quaint peaceful garden (adults). If I had to find something to moan about.... nope got nothing!

“The cottage was very clean and quite comfortable,the owners have thought about virtually everything,we enjoyed out stay a lot,the high street only being a two minute stroll away.”

If I had to say anything really ,really picky about this cottage is that the leather sofa was the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever sat on, and two minor things which I really missed was a small DAB radio and weirdly a pair of kitchen tongs.apart from that, brilliant,,we will return to this cottage.

“Needs some updating”

I must agree with the previous review and say that we found exactly the same issues, plus the damp. The stairs are steep and the handrail is screwed to the wall, so not a good grip when coming downstairs. I always had to hold on to the other wall as well, and I'm not incapacitated. It looks pretty from the photos, but definitely needs some work. That said, it is in an ideal location and great for catching the train to Oxford.

“Great Location but......”

We stayed here for three nights and to be honest, were a little disappointed. The location of the cottage is great - walkable to all amenities in the town, including the train station, so it was nice to ditch the car in the evening. Unfortunately we felt that some aspects of the cottage were not up to the standard we were expecting. The bed was uncomfortable, with a soft mattress and synthetic duvet, resulting in one of us decamping to the other bedroom in order to get some sleep. Similarly, the sofas are tired and offered little support, especially the cream leather one which was particularly uncomfortable. The bathroom was good, with an excellent shower, although the towels provided were far too small. If you are staying here and are larger than a Size 6, then you may wish to bring your own bath towels if you want to dry yourself properly. All in all we found the cottage to be just about okay but with a bit more attention to quality, it could be so much better. I’m afraid we wouldn’t choose to stay here again when visiting the Cotswolds in the future.

“The cottage looked lovely and is in a great location, with just a short walk into the centre.”

The weather was good so we were also able to enjoy the garden. Just a little disappointed with a couple of things - the sofa and chair in the lounge are tired and worn and the cushions slipped on the sofa and larger towels in the bathroom would be welcome as they were really small for bath towels. On the plus side the shower was excellent. Easy to catch a train into Oxford for the day which was an added bonus.

The property

Honeystone Cottage is a charming and welcoming bolthole in the heart of Moreton in Marsh.

It's view to surrounding gardens and across to the church in the distance enhance the tranquility and peace of this location and yet, walk for 60 seconds and you are on the High Street with its super range of shops, restaurants and the like.

For those who love 'a bit of everything' then this cottage has it all: a period building that has been restored and well maintained, it's warm and welcoming and spotless, you've got a garden and all the best of the market town around the corner.

And then - some of the Cotswolds best countryside within a few mins drive (or walk)!

The owners have created a truly cosy home, the wood burner literally 'belts' out the heat, the kitchen has everything you need, while upstairs are two surprisingly large bedrooms and bathroom with power shower.

We particularly recommend this cottage because of it's cute location 'around the back' of the town centre, its yet very quiet hideaway with its surprisingly green and pretty views, oh and the private parking too!

Fancy coming by train from London, well, you can - the station is just 5 mins walk away.

About the location

MORETON-IN-MARSH

Stow-on-the-Wold 4.5 miles; Bourton-on-the-Water 8 miles; Stratford-upon-Avon 16 miles; Cheltenham 23 miles; Oxford 31 miles.

The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh lies on the Fosse Way Roman Road in the northern Cotswolds and boasts many elegant 18th century buildings, which are home to traditional inns, serving real ales and home-cooked food, tea rooms, restaurants and individual shops to suit all tastes. It also boasts it's own train station and lies on the intersection of the Paddington rail line from London. The town hosts the Moreton-In-Marsh Show, one of the UK's largest one-day agricultural shows, as well as the Moreton Beer Festival, an annual French Market, and a large outdoor market every Tuesday. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of the town, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close by. Less than five miles away is Stow-on-the-Wold, the highest town in the Cotswolds. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly farmers' market. Close by is Bourton-on-the-Water, which is known as the Venice of the Cotswolds as the River Windrush runs through the centre. It lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. Also within reach is the spa town of Cheltenham. This town boasts an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, and is famous for its horseracing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within driving distance. A convenient base for exploring the Cotswolds and the wider area.
