  • "The doors don’t always catch fully, unfortunately this meant that one f the dogs who had become ill overnight was able to get into a bedroom and mess on the carpet instead of being contained in the kitchen area, where it would’ve been easier to clean up."

Even though we reported this on the day and left a day earlier than expected, we had no contact until the company said that a new carpet was required and we were responsible, with these delays claiming on the insurance taken out with the damage waiver, may be difficult for us. However the property was in a wonderful location and amenities in the cottage were really good.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you found the doors downstairs difficult to close. The cleaners were sent out the same day you reported the accident your dog had on the carpet. We were able to clean the carpet to a level that it did not need replacing at the time but we have now replaced the carpet with a new one. Property Owner

  • "Generally very clean, tidy, well equipt and in a really lovely location."

Little niggles are: Saggy single beds. Bad for someone with back trouble. Two broken sash cords in rear double bedroom making it impractical to open the window. Black mould on the inner lower frames of the upper sashes of the bedrooms. A deep main sofa. Uncomfortable for short people.

Thank you for your feedback. We try to provide a range of mattress softnesses as they are a matter of personal taste. The double and king size beds have firmer mattresses. The sash cords have been replaced in the back bedroom. The sofas in the lounge are of two different sizes to accommodate a range of people.. Property Owner

Surrounding neighbours lovely friendly people. Pretty gardens. Two great pubs both within walking distance. Great base to explore surrounding areas. Slight improvements could be made on cleaning and some tired and worn towels and bedding probably needs replacement ( non of this affected our stay but feel worth a mention) Have thoroughly enjoyed a very relaxing short stay. Thank you

  • "The cottage was spacious and very pleasant."

Our main objective was to meet up with family in the area and take advantage of the local countryside and eateries. We walked the dog to the Maltsers Arms a couple of times which did not disappoint! The food and service was excellent. It was mentioned in the details that parking may be a problem (tight) and so it proved to be as we had an SUV which took quite a bit of care to negotiate the tree. Pity that the gardens front and back were not fully dog secure as it would have been quite easy to achieve. One issue I need to point out is that on the third day of our holiday I noticed that someone had let himself in to the garden and was putting a 6 foot fence up in the garden, which reduced its size by 10-15 feet, between the house and the property behind. I approached the guy and asked him for an explanation. He said he had been asked by the property owner behind to erect the fence and he couldn't say any more!! Neither Sykes or the owners of the property we were staying in had communicated to us that this was planned to happen. POOR!

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you had a nice stay at Jasmine Cottage. The rear garden is now enclosed, unfortunately it is not possible to enclose the front garden because of the road access. We are sorry to hear about the fence being erected during your stay, we were unaware this would be happening and have have now address this with the neighbours and apologise for any inconvenience caused. • "Lovely cottage and thick walls were great defence against the heat!"

Great to be within walking distance of a dog-friendly pub - and a very good one at that. Although compact the cottage was well equipped internally and impeccably clean and beds were comfortable although a duvet in the summer was definitely not needed - be good to provide sheets as an alternative! We were were a bit disappointed not to have any kind of welcome pack but perhaps as we were only staying 3 nights this is the standard - but some milk at least would have been nice. Lovely big fridge would have been excellent had we been staying longer and eating in. The house book needs a bit of updating - the information about rubbish collection was contradictory, and the leave time on the confirming email matched the house book, but there was another notice pinned in the entrance giving an earlier time! Weren't able to use the rear gardens as they are not dog-friendly, not being properly enclosed - I have seen another post about there being a right of way, but I don't see that would stop the owners putting in gates which can easily be opened for anyone using the "path"; the current arrangement of a low board one side and a chair on its side the other serves no purpose. Only real issue however is the parking - the tree in the centre of the parking space makes life extremely difficult even if, like us, you only have one family sized car! Our friends were unable to come, so we didn't have to test out the smaller-second car theory but I'm not sure it would have worked. None of the other houses have a tree so they managed well with 2 cars. It would be useful to include some information about where else in the village it is OK to park!

  • "This cottage was just perfect for our needs."

Spacious, comfortable, well equipped and cosy. We didn’t use the garden at all as we were out and about most of the days. The location was perfect as it was in easy reach of Totnes Dartmouth and Dartmoor. If I had to find fault it would be the noises made by the boiler and the door knob on the back bedroom being very loose!!

Thank you for your feedback. The boiler is being looked at and the door knob has been attended to! - The Helpful Holidays Team. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was pretty much as described and the kitchen was very well equipped."

The "goodie box" was a lovely touch. One suggstion might be a starter pack of logs for the first night as the cottage was quite cold on the first evening (and a suggestion for where to get some more). As stated in the details the entrance to the terrace is quite tight but ok, as is the parking. We have what we consider to be a medium car and we are not sure another car would fit. Th cottage is in a lovely peaceful setting, with a semi- enclosed garden which our dogs loved (just open at the top where the car was parked) and the terrace occupants were very friendly. Next door did have the builders in but we weren't bothered too much as we were out most of the days. There are many local walks and 2 pubs serving food in easy walking distance.

Good access to Totnes, Dartmouth and salcombe. Lots of great local pubs to choose from, great options for boat hire, canoe trips. Cottage itself extremely spacious especially kitchen/ dining area. Very peaceful. And a great base to walk …… lots of footpaths from the house. Some parts of cottage getting a little older now, bathroom in particular but the shower is fantastic! Super powerful :-) Overall a lovely area and great base for a holiday,

  • "The cottage was a bit bigger than I expected from the photos, there was plenty of room for all the family."

Also it was well equipped with an extra large fridge. The welcome parcel was a bonus. We suggest the owner gets the bathroom extractor fan fixed ASAP - not a problem for us during a hot dry week but if we'd had a wet week it could really have been an issue - I would have expected the cleaners to have reported this problem! I would also suggest the owners get side gates so that the back garden is enclosed for a dog, we had to keep the door shut, it is probably the only thing putting us off coming back to this cottage and two low garden gates are not expensive.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed Jasmine Cottage. Occasionally guests turn off the extractor fan (switch located in the bathroom) and forget to turn it back on! It has been checked and is operating as it should when switched on. Unfortunately gates cannot be added at the side of the property as this is is a historic right of way for the neighbouring properties (though seldom used). Property Owner
